Root Is Ultimate Droid the same type of AOSP as Obsidian?

With the Obsidian beta making its grand debut, it is likely that a new breed of Droid X rom will rapidly replace those that we are currently familiar with. Now I'm familiar with the concept of the "hollowed out" blurless ROMs based on the Motorola builds (Rubix, Fission), as well as the notion of the new "built entirely from source" ROMs (Obsidian, Unleashed 3.0 alpha) that don't rely on the Motorola build at all.

My question is, where does the new Ultimate Droid X fit into this spectrum. Is it a Blurless ROM based on a Motorola build like Fusion, or is it entirely built from source like Obsidian?
 
Not touching this one.... I will ask my fellow posters to keep it civil, though. ;)

In that case I find it interesting that he never posted anything about experiencing reboots whenever the screen was locked (as Obsidian did). I read that it was a major setback in using the "built entirely from source" method.

If it was something that he found a fix for, I'm surprised that he wouldn't share that fix with the developer of Obsidian, cvpcs. It seems like it would have been the "open source" thing to do. I know that Matt (developer of Unleashed) shared any fixes that he came up with the Obsidian team, and vice versa.

As for the other ROMs, not knocking them at all. I simply ment that all DX ROMS will likely go the "from source" way in future.

HE did actually mention the reboot issue if you followed him on twitter, and he did find a fix. no idea if he shared it or not though.

Didn't actually follow him on twitter, but it's good to know that the ROMs are following the same basic course. It means that there's a fairly well-defined path to creating others of their kind.

Crossing fingers for a GPS and Video cam fix soon.

You should see that when you install the rom. Blackdroid is using obsidian source that he modified with his own fixes, tweaks, and theme for ultimate droid DX.
 
Awesome to hear about the fixes. It only serves to increase my anticipation for the new Gingerbread build coming out really soon.
 
In an interesting turn of events, Ultimate Droid just posted on their Twitter that this was NOT based on Gem source, but rather it just took parts of it. Likewise, they also stated that parts of the ROM were based on the Moto source.

Does this mean that this ROM is still ultimately based on the Motorola build, or has Blackdroid dissected both the Moto software and the Obsidian software to merge them into his own source? (Can that even be done?)
 
BD likes to do mashups from others roms. I doubt he wrote any of the code from scratch. But that is just me basing of past events.
 
It would have been nice of him to share the fixes indeed. Which he may very well have, who knows. There is a lot of drama between those two presently. I'm not picking sides. The Obsidian code was open for anyone to use. The gentlemenly thing to do would be giving credit. However you don't HAVE to, it's just the polite thing to do. Likewise they could use BlackDroids fixes and give him credit, or not.


Either way, they are very similar. UltimateDroid had most of the fixes first somehow.

well at least hes... sorta giving credit this time around.
 
all i know is im not gonna talk shit on someone building a ROM for our phones, no matter how he does it. I just wish i could make ROMS :) haha
