Root [ROM] OMGB v7 1/20/2011 Gingerbread 2.3

I might beat you to it. My fingers are getting itchy, I've actually reached for the phone a couple of times already. This snow and cold are a flashing environment. ;-)

Let me know what you think , we seem to have similar taste in ROMS . Everyone you reccomend I love. I'm running RR right now and liking it but ready for something new. Everytime I go to a sense ROM I love how everything works and SYNC and everything runs so smooth but I get bored with it so fast
Since this isn't a 100% working ROM I'm waiting till after the New Year as I need a perfect functioning phone for this weekend.

I'll flash this and root my roomates EVO saturday while watching football

I just found out what happened to my install.

I didn't see an answer yet on XDA but I had to restore RR to get a functioning phone. I wasn't so worried about Swype, I figured I had to reinstall. FB sync was an issue for me as was weather and gps failures. I really did like the look of it but didn't have much time to play with the speed or check out battery life before the FCs trashed it. But this is one I will play around with at some point in the near future. It's just that RR with ADW EX is so darn stable for me now that it's hard to leave it. So I play with kernels and themes to quench my thirst for newness.
That screen off animation is second to none! I would flash this just for that alone.

aha! the Japanese IME was the culprit. That is wild...good to know.

All the things you list work perfect for me. RR is as stable as they come I agree. Feel better soon!

well i did the gapps but i still cant seem to get weatherbug or bankofamerica apps. i cant even find them in the market. i really hope the video gets worked out as that would make this rom 1000000% perfect.

Yeah BOA app is not working for me either, which is a bummer because I use it regularly. I think it is just that they have not updated for 2.3

got a small problem. rebooted phone and was going to flash the data cap and for some reason now my phone wont let me select usb so i can transfer stuff to my sd. anyone have this problem?

The sd mount is being reported as inconsistent. Guess that's the nature of such a new OS on the Inc when it's not supposed to be.

Are you familiar with gscript? It's pre-installed on omgb6.

Argent lays it out nicely Click here for instructions

got it to work. had to reinstall the cm7 gapps and then had to manually restore app threw titanium. both of them are now back on the phone and work. YEAH !!!!!!!!

hmm. guess i'll try it again. gapps provided made my system buggy. I had to reflash. I'll try it again though. I need BOA.

I had this problem. I just cleared everything and reflashed. Works now.

I'm with you on that. One thing I did was download ADW EX launcher which completely changed the look of the rom. It was around $3 but worth it. I also have Apps Organizer which allows me to make folder like icons on the desktop and add apps to them. It's much better than those bland manila folders. But you should try ADW (free version first) if you haven't already. I guess LP is pretty much the same. But I hide the dock and can add all my shortcuts to the bottom, kind of like Miui allows you to do. They have a lot of themes available for download too. The EX version also has cool transition animations so I don't get bored too quickly. And for *really* boring times I just flash another kernel. Stuck on Chad's now.

But the GB rom does look cool. I don't think it's much different than other sense roms although some are saying great battery life and speedier, if that's possible. I'm going to hold off for now, I need a phone this weekend too. Maybe next week when the NYE thing is over. I'll def report back.

Hey you have multi touch working on RR or did you flash the new ClockworkMod?

The GB rom is 100% vanilla, there is no sense.

BJ, anyone over on XDA mention a way to deal with the FC issue with OpenWNN?

I had a little incident with it this morning and it made me nuts!!

Thanks for the app fixes jayjay, this rom is now perfect for me (i never use the video)

I had a run in with the force closes when I uninstalled swype because it forced me to the japanese ime input method.

Nope, not yet. Made me have to nandroid out of there. I can't believe no one has answered this yet.
Did you try swype? Maybe that's what did it?

Yup, I nandroided out of it too.

I actually use Swype exclusively, but I needed to reboot. I found that if I disable Swype before I reboot it will not make me reinstall it. My mistake was that I did not switch to the Android keyboard before disabling it and the system chose the Japanese keyboard on its own which sent me into FC loop!

I guess for now, we all need to be careful that we do not choose the Japanese keyboard.

No problem, yeah I don't use the video either. :-)

I didn't have to nandroid to fix it, I was able to just switch back to the regular input method and it stopped.

can i flash this rom now and have no issues other than video?

or do i still have to apply a few work-arounds?

The only work around is that you have to first flash the rom, then flash google apps, then boot into the rom and set it up. Then you can boot into recovery and wipe the dalvik cache, and flash the new market.
Not sure if you need to follow those exact steps, but that's what I did and have no issues. (except video)

And the one app issue I had was with angry birds. I had to uninstall it and then remove my sd card, then install the app, then I could use titanium to restore data.... Seems like angry birds forces info onto the sd card for some reason. And that is the other issue, don't think you can have apps on the sd card.

I can flash this, but the question remains, what does it give you outside of the stable sense roms out there? There are so many workarounds perhaps we should wait a bit for a more solid version? Don't get me wrong, I'm in the mood to try it, but how much time will I have to put into this to make it work properly as a daily?
PS. I got hooked on that ****ing Angry Birds yesterday so I need that too.

It took me about a half hour to get it all working.
I like this rom as my daily mainly because of the smoothness and battery life. The green accents are nice too.
Like I said in the post above, angry birds was the hardest part to figure out.
Ps I guess swype was a bit of a hassle too, but still only took about a half hour total to get working.
pss : the main reason I went to this rom was only because I was getting tired of MIUI and was switching roms anyway; I wasn't planning on using this as a daily, was just gonna give this a look and move on, but I got hooked on it. I probably wouldn't of switched to it if nix had stayed with MIUI.
If you really love sense, you might want to wait, but I used to not want to give up sense too, but I've been using vanilla roms for a little while now and have forgotten all about sense. Vanilla roms are so much lighter and smoother.

Agree on the Nix comment. Then my Miui system got trashed on a reboot and I bailed. I'll give this a try after the weekend I'm sure.

aww man, call me lazy but i cant do all that lol. I hope its not too long before the fixes are built in

I'm in the same boat as you rsarno. However, I wouldn't say I'm lazy, just not confident enough to be able to do everything I may need to do to make this work properly. So many work arounds, and so many things I don't know about. Scary.
