Going to the Atrix 4g training 2/2/2011!!

Hmm so you say the the Screen quality is very good. Nice, I think the inspire looks really damn actually, only thing that has me on edge is the screen quality, just not sure how it is compared to lets say retna and SA.

Well, an iPhone is ~326PPI and a 4" "standard" Android phone is ~233, and this new 4" Atrix qHD is ~275.

FWIW, if it was 3.5" like an iPhone it would be 314PPI, so normalized [so to speak] it's only ~4% difference.

just like the bravo actually.

and to be honest, i really liked the bravo, it had a really nice feel to it, especially for a mid range android phone

I haven't had any experience with any of the phones you've compared it to thus far. I'm guessing build quality would be in the realm of a Blackberry Bold or similar brand of BB made predominantly of plastic?

Yea I played with the Bravo at AT&T and thought it felt really good so if the Atrix is like the Bravo then I'll be happy with it

Marc did you get a chance to use the browser? I'm curious if pinch to zoom and scrolling is smooth. In some of the CES demos it was kind of choppy.

Wow, great job on the hands on Marc! I really really appreciate answering all those questions! I'm excited to see your pictures later too.

This is all very good information.

The delay in announcing a release date makes me wonder if they are going to announce a release date during the Super Bowl...that would make quite the splash - especially if they showed people using the docks during the half time show or something like that.

Man - I can't wait to get this phone. Should be pretty damn impressive based on everything you said.

I can't wait to see pictures.

Hopefully it comes out before my 30 days are up with the Streak. It's a cool phone, but the fact that another supposed release date for 2.2 has come and gone is starting to get old. I've got until the 23rd, so cross your fingers everybody! :D

Yea I really want to know if there was any lag. Marc you said you think this was a finished product.... We have all seen the YouTube video comparing the Samsung focus to the atrix and man did it lag in pinch to zoom and scroll ... So how was that??

Also as everyone has said THANK YOU I am even more excited....

Is it possible to eventually allow sideloading after a root is released? Even with an encrypted bootloader?

YES. ROMs based on Motorola's firmware can still be loaded onto the phone.

There is a ROMs/hacks for the Backflip which allows for sideloading apps easily- [MOD] Install non-market apps

Similarly, there are overclock custom kernels and all the goodies. Just no installing ROMs which are not based on Moto (ie. Cyanogen/Gingerbread/Sense/bla bla bla)

Sorry for a noob question, but what exactly is sideloading? And why is it being blocked?

Installing non-market apps.

AT&T did this to stop you from installing apps such as tethering apps.

It can be done with root and a hack (similar to the Backflip one posted above) or through ADB (no root required, pretty easy to learn)

Ohhh I think I remember hearing about that. So I still get full access to the Android Market, but apk. and other such files will not install?

Exactly correct on the .apks not being allowed to be installed. But it isn't exactly full access to the market.

I have noticed that AT&T blocks tethering apps from the market.

This would happen if you have any AT&T SIM in any Android device (including devices purchased unlocked from other sources).

There was no lag in the browser. I actually did a speed test from speedtest.net (the real site) and it worked really well...no choppiness in the browser or anything. There was no lag in webtop mode as well, as moving around web pages and full versions of websites worked every well. The full version of engadget worked very smoothly as well

Right!

Though technically apps distributed through the market are also .APK, Android Package, which is a ZIP compress set of files/folders (runtimes, resources like PNG images, XML layout descriptions, etc.)

That's another cool thing about sideloading, you can grab the APK, modify the contents, sign it, and push it back with different graphics, fonts and whatnot.

Here are some pictures:
Sorry for the quality, they had to be sneaky, no flash, and streaks camera is yucky
pictures do not do it justice
