***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

JUST as a common sense kind of awareness thing, read this, and also read the line at the bottom. What does it mean? Read below the link.

"(Samsung Mobile), the No. 1 mobile phone provider in the U.S. 1, today announced the anticipated February availability of the Galaxy S™ 4G, exclusively from T-Mobile."......"Powered by Android™ 2.2, the Galaxy S 4G is equipped with a speedy Samsung 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application Processor...." yada yada yada

News from SAMSUNG Mobile USA

AKA - With the release of the GS4G phone (Fascinate CLONE with FFC), also comes the release of wait for it..... the 2.2 Android OS for that phone. Which means, because they are OUTRAGEOUSLY similar in every shape and form, the final legit release of 2.2 for OUR phones (the Fascinate if you're slow). Just think about it. I am allowed to say this and be wrong because this is a speculation thread :). So using common sense, 2.2 should be available, finally, to us this month (February).

I guess attracting all the complaints and nonsense into one thread is good, but yikes... T mo phones have NOTHING to do with our CDMA model.

True but its not like the operating system is hardly different.

samsung seems to treat each galaxy s phone as an island...in regards to updates, etc....generally speaking the gsm phones (captivate, vibrant, i9000, gsm fascinate) are more closely related and even in some cases the firmwares can be flashed to one another....

the epic 4g and fascinate must rely upon their own updates/leaks....the fascinate is a cousin to the showcase/mesmorize...but since theyre smaller regional carriers theyre not a whole lot of help...aside from the occasional crumb

agreed

just making the point about the reality of what updates for one galaxy s phone, not meaning much for another. aside from me being happy for our fellow samsung-sufferers on other networks, they dont mean a whole lot. everyone tend to get excited when an update is announced/leaked for the vibrant, i9000, etc...but we all know what it really means for us: not much

So true, I mean bird still hasnt officially ported over any .32 kernels from i9000 kernel source. We certainly are the red-haired step child of the SGS clan :(

I'm brand new to this forum and website but I just downloaded an update and I'm 99 percent sure it's 2.2. Main reason i'm saying this (because i don't know all the changes it does) is that I now have flash on my phone and before the phone I did not. I can watch videos on the internet right from the page, no youtube needed. The phone is also a lot faster right now as well.

Go to Settings>About Phone it will tell you your Firmare Version either 2.1 update 1 or 2.2.1

I swear sometimes we have people come up with another username, or random people think it's funny to become a member of the boards just to write a post of "I think I have 2.2..." It happens so often, that no one falls for it and it's just a bit of a joke.

I think the only time we're all going to believe it is when the forums crash from all us Fascinate users trying to get on at the same time to say that the Froyo for the Fascinate is finally out.

Ugh, guys I need a bit of help. I managed to put my phone into a boot loop after tinkering around on 2.2, where it just keeps going to the "2e" manual boot menu. Now, after going through a number of threads, I've concluded I just need a tiny, simple piece of information: where exactly on the SD card does update.zip go?

The reason I'm asking on here is because you all seem to know your stuff and the threads for restoring the fascinate are filled with 90% of people clamoring for help like me.

Alright, but exactly what is the root of the card? Does that just mean in the random white space? Forgive my lack of knowledge.

Alright... that's not working. I don't mean to clog up this thread with my troubles, so I'm going to attempt some other things... wish me luck.

Maybe create your own thread detailing the problem? Im sure this forum's braintrust can get you right

Hey, what do you know... I just had a streak of good luck! I managed to reset all of FroYo! Wow, that was so much easier than I thought. You just resend all the necessary stuff from Odin and it all comes back good as new! Psh.. screw dealing with that update.zip nonsense =)

Samsung Epic 4G getting Froyo on Feb. 21st, Fascinate following on Feb. 22nd?

I'm not sure if you all noticed or not, but the Samsung Epic 4G didn't get updated to Android 2.2 on December 26th like one rumor claimed it would. Sprint promised that the upgrade would come "ASAP," and now another rumor has appeared that claims to know exactly when that is. According to a source speaking with Android Central, the Epic will finally be bumped up to build EA17 of Froyo on February 21st. However, the Epic's not the only Galaxy S that'll be getting a nice surprise this month, claims the site. They say that all of you Fascinate owners should "keep your calendars clear on or about Feb. 22."

Considering all of the rumors and delays that have surrounded the Galaxy S Froyo updates, it's tough to believe anything new we hear on the situation, but this newest bit of speculation seems like it could be right on. After all, T-Mobile's Vibrant finally got updated to Android 2.2 late last month, and U.S. Cellular's Mesmerize is due to see the upgrade soon. We'll just have to cross our fingers (and our toes) and hope. Do you all think that we'll finally see two more Galaxy S Froyo updates later this month?

Feb 22, 2012 sounds about right... lol

((Not holding my breath)) Not to mention its available now...

I could care less about official froyo per se. What we got now is fine. But if it means kernel source bring it on.
