[Sprint] Premier Gold Yearly Upgrades

I'm sure this is important to use Evo owners as we enjoy having the best phone on the market. I'm sure they'll put out Evo 2 or something similar around June or so, so I thought I'd make sure we all knew ahead of time so we can get our accounts set up. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

If you've been a Sprint customer for 10 years or more you automatically get Gold status and yearly upgrades for your primary line.

If you haven't been with Sprint for 10 years you need to have your BASE plan at $89.99 for a single line or $169.99 for shared plans averaged over a 3 month period.

I talked to a Sprint Rep about 15 minutes ago and he said I'd have to change my account to the 169 a month plan before April 1st to be eligible for the upgrade in June when I hit my year date (Evo Launch Day). He didn't sound 100% sure as it wouldn't have been 3 whole months of paying 169. The way I see it you would need to have all of March, all of April and all of May at that rate to get that average to be over 169.99 to get that upgrade in June, so I'll be playing it safe and changing my account at the very end of February.

This raises a question though: If I use my yearly upgrade from the Gold Premier does it re-up my two year contract with Sprint? I meant to ask the guy but I forgot. Does anybody have any insight on this? If it does then I'll probably just keep my account the same and buy my next phone outright and just do one year contracts after that.

If anybody has more info please reply and I'll try to add it to the first post so we can get all of the right info up here. Thanks!

yeah it does. i did my year upgrade last year to get my evo and i had to sign for another two years. i do not think that part changed.

Regardless of the change I think you are correct....it will all depend on who you talk to. I have been with sprint for 12 yrs so I am not really worried about the changes but most obsticles like this have always been overcome by calling in and sweet talking someone....or by buying your phone elsewhere vs direct from sprint

I talked to a rep at the Sprint store yesterday & he confirmed this change. GRRRRR!!!! I was really hoping it was just a rumor. I'm going to be 3 years short of qualifying for Gold status when this goes into effect. Even though I was eligible for an upgrade back in October, Sprint has nothing I'm interested in upgrading to right now. I'm hoping February & March bring good news. Maybe that's why Sprint decided this change will go into effect in April. So that they have time to give those of us eligible some last minute options. If Sprint can't work something out with me I'll start looking seriously at Virgin or Boost. Not that their phone selection is great but the plans are cheaper.

That's where I'm going! ;)

From BGR:

Way back on the 20th, we told you that Sprint would be tweaking its customer loyalty rewards program – lovingly known as Premier. Recently, Sprint contacted BGR to clarify a few details about exactly what has to happen for customers to qualify for the program’s restructured incentives.

Gold Level
A gold level member will receive 25% off the purchase of 2 or more accessories, customer news letters, “just because” perks, first to buy offers, and the ability to upgrade one device after 12 months of service. To qualify for a Premier Gold membership, users must have an individual monthly plan costing $89.99 or more or a family plan costing $169.99 (before any applicable discounts).

Silver Level
A silver level member will receive the same benefits as gold members — 25% off the purchase of 2 or more accessories, customer news letters, “just because” perks, and first to buy offers — but will not have the ability to upgrade a device after 12 months of service. To qualify for a Premier Silver membership, users must have an individual monthly plan costing between $69.99 and $89.98 or a family plan costing between $99.99 and $169.98 (before any applicable discounts).

Any customer, regardless of rate-plan price, that has been with Sprint over ten years will automatically qualify for Premier Gold. There you have it. Straight from the horses mouth.

Having the ability to renew every year is a sweet deal, even if it means a new two year deal.
You end up paying for it in the longrun since you have to have a super expensive plan or 10 years with Sprint to get it.

I'm only doing one year contracts from now on.

Yeah I knew about the new premier gold and silver before the folks at the store. They had no idea what I was talking about.

Ok first off what is premier gold silver is that 2.4 cuz thats the first time I hear of that.

Sprint's Premier Program is changing by April 1. This is basically how it's changed:

Premier gold = sprint customers of 10+ years (stays the same, from what I remember)
Premier silver = primary account holder for less than 10 years (no more 1 year upgrade eligibility)

You can get Gold with <10 years if you have the most expensive plan that Sprint offers.

then considering an evo costs at least 89.00 per month.. we are all gold members and are eligible for an upgrade every one year.. to check when your eligible for an upgrade and you can text the word "upgrade" to 1311 ..

problem is how do you reach these new $$$

single line = $69.99 +$10 (smartphone) + ???? = $89
only thing left to add is $30 hotspot.

It does? Before the employee discount, mine is about 80 or so. 70 for my SE 450 plan + 10 for WiMAX + 7 for insurance. Unless taxes are factored into it, I'd be short by $3...if they factor in employee discounts I'll be REALLY short

Plus, your $10 "Smartphone Fee" does not count. Your base plan must be $89.99 to qualify, per a chat session I had with Sprint.
