HTC Desire : Upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3

"smart dialling"? No, it doesn't, though you can always use a 3rd party app which does. Personally I just press the "search" key and start typing the person's name on the pop-up keyboard - does require one extra key press and uses qwerty rather than T9 (though I don't find that latter a drawback), but does the same job.

The plus side, for me, is that I always found viewing the call log in the HTC one a little fiddly - trying to select a call on the list would often result in the thing dialling the number instead. I find the default android one easier to use.

Unless I'm mistaken it doesn't let you 'spell out' names using the keypad instead of dialing a number or going through the contacts. Too used to doing things that way. :)
Like hadron said, you can just use the search button.

Although I personally use contacts.

Did anyone else notice it took like 5 minutes to mount the friggin' SD card in Sense, but only 2 seconds without..? I would've gotten a Nexus One if I could, but on the other hand physical buttons are nice.

I think the actual Sense launcher isn't that good, but I really like the Sense apps.

Well I gotta admit I do miss the friendstream widget the rest was nothing special. Its a shame I cant find anything similiar on the android market.

I use pure messenger. At first I didn't think it was as nice, but now I think its much better

yeah I see what youre saying. Its a usage thing. Sometimes a small change in how you use things can open up other worlds of excitement in the form of custom roms ;)

It's true, and I do like switching ROMs. I just always end up going back to Sense ones with LP+ and WidgetLocker.

It's too bad I've not had as good luck pushing Sense apps to vanilla ROMs as I have the other way round, otherwise I might actually run a stock ROM with the dialer replaced. I'm using the stock Android messaging app because one of my missed SMS widgets doesn't like the Sense one, and it works fine.

Well, I use Chomp, but with the Sense Mms.apk, the widget in question wouldn't pull missed SMS counters. Works fine with the stock Android app installed.

Sense is what's keeping me from trying out other brands' Android products; I can't imagine my phone without it. Sure, sometimes I try out a different launcher and think the new look is pretty cool and refreshing, but then I get frustrated that the Sense widgets aren't there and just go back to them.
All the social network integration might seem superfluous too, but it's still nice to have all the same.

I have huge integration and o don't use anything sense

Sure some of the better sense widget replacements you have to pay for but they're really good

According to AndroidCentral, our desires will get a gingerbread update after all :)

Three UK confirms HTC Desire Gingerbread update | Android Central

"Responding to a tweet asking whether Three would carry Gingerbread for the Desire, the carrier said -

"Yes we will but we don't have timescales yet :-)"

Twitter / ThreeUK: @ianmcmillan Yes we will b ...

This is good news :)

Seriously same with me

so many people say sense is just a bloated software, stop complaining, if you dont like sense, you should have bought the nexus, DOH!!!

TweetDeck......My Friend! :) :) I use it all the time, and far better that FriendStream in my opinion.

Not sure where the negative feelings about Sense is coming from.....it's just an app after all, like LauncherPro. I'd hardly call it bloated, and the vast majority of users don't have a problem. The good thing is that there's a choice.

I like HTC hardware. The desire is better than the Nexus 1, even thiugh HTC made it, they didnt make it with their latest tech. I dont want a roller ball. I dont even really like the look onf the N1.

It took using HTC sense for a couple of months to realise that I didnt like it (so it was too late by then) and I like modifying my phone and this is pretty easy with HTC hardware. I know what I am doing.
