other features like what?could you enumerate them please...
Features I like in android 2.3.3 (the first few that come to mind):
- battery percentage on status line at top of screen (a cyanogen feature) (2.3.2 allowed you to view the battery status on the lock screen, the status line is an extra in 2.3.3)
- power control bar has selectable features (eg, you can remove the blue tooth icon if you want, you can also add icons like a button for airplane mode or silent) pretty sure this was there in 2.3.2, but not as configurable in 2.1
- 2.3.3 has an FM radio, but does not have an auto tune feature like a car radio. You need to type in all the channels you want. The antenna is in the head phone cable, and I think it sounds slightly worse than the radio in the stock android 1.6.
- 2.2.3 has a music widget that is 4x1, it works like a music library, but I think it is not a standard google android app. The standard music widget available in 2.2.2 is also in 2.3.3, but it is 4x2 and does not work the same way.
- the google maps in 2.3.3 work very rapidly and I believe work off line. The gps also locks much quicker than in 2.3.2.
- the camera seems to work reliably, if you start it with the camera short cut on the screen. On my phone the camera button does not always start the camera up so that it functions. sometimes I get a black screen using the hardware button.
- in general i think 2.3.3 is more responsive than 2.3.2 and uses less battery. but I still charge it every night.
- 2.3.3 does let you search the gsm networks in your area, but I do not really need that feature as I only have one sim.
- I am using the setcpu-like features built into 2.3.3. I used setcpu on 2.3.2, not sure why. probably because I thought I had to, but am not sure.
- 2.3.3 seems to mean that i need to install fewer apps myself on the phone. (no battery monitor, no wifi on/off toggle switch for when at home)
- the double-tap pinch alternative works much better in 2.3.3 than in 2.3.2. I can easily zoom more easily, move around the screen and high light text in 2.3.3.
- I really wanted the wifi toggle functionality available in 2.3 to share the 3G data with my laptop, but the native android functions do not work. so the "proper" buttons for wifi toggling in the menu system do not work. I had some problems pressing them in 2.3.2 and the phone needed rebooting. In 2.3.3 they just do nothing. I have installed the app called wifi toggle for root and it works fine.
- you need to install patches for both 2.3.2 and 2.3.3. be aware of that.
This list is by no means complete, but are just a few things that sprang to mind. I hope it helps and answers your question. I am really happy. But I would really like the compass to work as well! But I am really happy with it.
Thanks to everyone in the group for helping me along the way.
