The BIG 2.1 Thread

Maybe I am the luckiest guy here but I have yet to get a single reboot from any 2.1 ROM I've used and the stability of them has been superb. My only complaints have been the keyboard backlight and the lag with live walls but I use normal wallpaper anyway.

I am lucky too! :)

I am using the nexus rom and the only issues i have are known: keyboard light, labels in programs menus not alighed, live wallpaers causing issues.

For people that are having the reboots try going without the live wallpapers. the live wallpapers caused reboots for me so i stopped using them.

I riginally had an issue with the phone not charging over 60% via USB bur for some reason it started working yesterday. wierd I know.

Anyone know when the OFFICIAL Release from Verizon for the Droid might be Pushed OTA?

My bet would be mid February to mid March. Some say sooner but if you look at Google's track record for allowing other phones to get the newest version of Android it is always a good 2-4 month wait.

for some reason my gmail wont sync automatically, its set to and everything but it stopped doing it. I have to click refresh everytime I wana check my mail. is this happening to anyone else. I am using HC 2.1

Apparently durig the CSE with google, during the Q&A portion, it was stated that 2.1 would be out for everyone "in a few days"

Just read it in a post at Android Phone Fans

Edit: seems to be semi-confirmed, when it becomes open source in a few days

I'm using hc's 2.1 also and have not had any problems with gmail syncing.

The only bug I ever got was this morning. Headed to work, plugged in the fm transmitter and started playing some tunes. But they played at est. 3/4 speed. Was using meridian, so tried the default player. It started fine and then would play at 3/4 speed, speed up to normal, back down, etc. Rebooted, all's fine. Weird. Any body else?

nooooo. it will available to all developers.. not phones and users

Exactly like MERF said, it will be published to the source tree, just like EVERY release of Android has to be. That has nothing to do with it coming to other devices though. Android is open source and that means they have to publish the source, which is what will be done.

So how is this different from pulling the OS off the N1, as the devs have done, and building a Droid 2.1 ROM?

Does getting 2.1 open source mean better Droid ROMs with few or no missing pieces like the keyboard issue, problems w/live wallpapers, etc?

Curious how this will affect ROM work in the meantime, before the official Droid 2.1 release occurs...

It gives them a clean base, then they can add in libraries and whatnot to match it up with the DROID, instead of having to strip things out from the N1 ROM. Like the homescreen landscape bug where the icons and dots get messed up, along with the app launcher. That would be fixed, keyboard backlight too.

I wouldn't call it confirmed...I haven't seen any attributable, confirmed statements from VZW or Google. The news conference quote sounds like it was that the Moto CEO said that he "thinks" that the Droid would be updated to 2.1 in a few days.

Uhm, google said it would be available to public soon; yesterday at their conference....
I'd imagine that means we will have it on Droids relatively soon as well.

"Everybody will get 2.1 when it

Did anybody else notice that the "clock" app in 2.1 is like manual dock mode? I dig. Figured that out the first time I set the alarm and was pleasantly surprised.

Speaking of flashing new ROMs (which I hope to be doing shortly when the devs have access to 2.1), I'm a bit confused about SPRecovery versions...

I currently have (I think) version 15 (0.15.0)...but it seems like the current version is 0.99.1b.

When I boot into it (power/x key), it says at the top, above the blue menu choices:

Android System Recovery <2e>
Patched by SirPsychoS (0.15.0)

How does this version jibe with version 0.99.1b? Did the version number just jump from .15 to .99 suddenly, or am I totally confused about something?

<Edit>

Never mind, got an answer from the author, 0.99.1b is an upgrade from 0.15.0, so I flashed it and all is well...

Nice to see that interview, but it doesn't do anything to tighten down the release date...still looks like the best we have for a formal 2.1 release date is "soon." ;)

I'll take a "soon" over a "maybe" or "no comment."

I wonder if this is update is instead of or in addition to the Jan 22nd update we'd heard about?

Question... (geez, I sound like Dwight on The Office. ;))

I think I'm going to finally move on from installing various bits of 2.1 on my Droid, and start playing w/some of the 2.1 ROMs (sort of getting ready for when the devs release ROMs based on the 2.1 SDK in the near future).

Anywho, I've got a nandroid backup, but I'm not entirely clear of what's actually in it and what's not in it

I assume my nandroid backup includes anything on my Droid except what I've added from the Market (i.e., none of the apps I installed from the market are there, but the 2.1 apps I've hacked into system/apps are in the backup).

Also assuming no data, and no settings are backed up.

Is that right?

Anything else in the backup that I didn't mention?

Anything else left out?

Thanks!

The nandroid backup is like an image of exactly how your phone was when u backed it up, the wallpaper, widgets, apps, everything. so when u flash to that rom its like ur back where u left off. At least thats how mine was lol
