Root cyanogen vs mikfroyo 4.4

Wow, MikFroYo looks very impressive. I've been using Myn's since RSL 4 and I haven't had as good battery life since RLS 5. (I've tried a bunch of different kernels) Have you guys been seeing good battery life with Mik?

For me I've had better battery life with Miks as opposed to Myns. With both roms I've used netarchy kernels.

ok went to the link you provided, on which link do you click to download it. sorry a little slow in recognizing these links:confused:

would this be it....

Having previously been on Myn's Warm, I decided to try out CM 6.1.2 just to see what all the fuss was about, everyone claiming it was "so fast". Well I was highly disappointed. Not only did I loose all the polish of Sense, but it was actually a bit slower than Myn's rom. Just browsing around and doing normal stuff just didn't seem any faster than Warm, and at some times slower and more choppy. Even though Quadrant scores mean jack shit, I figured I'd try it out and with Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 I got 1280, with CM 6.1.2 I got 1250.

So I ditched that real quick LOL. I'm currently on MikFroyo v4.4 and I loooove it. It has everything I loved about Myn's Warm (looks wise and features) but it is actually a good deal faster. I especially notice it when I'm sending a text message, when I hit send it almost instantly sends. With Warm, it would say "sending" or "loading" whichever one it was for a second or so. Not a huge difference or anything but it's the small everyday stuff that just seem to be a bit faster. Quadrant score hasn't really changed.

thanks guys for the help... felling like a blonde today... no offense to any blondes lol... Ready to flash, but let me ask something that no one else seems to point me in the right directions. Lol, that's ok :). What exactly do you mean by "regular backup"? There are two basic kinds of backups:

nanrdoid backup - this is done from recovery. If you have ROM manager and are using Clockwork recovery, you can open ROM manager, and select the option to backup. That will reboot into recovery, and perform a nandroid backup. If you're using RA recovery or Clockwork recovery, and don't want to use ROM manager (which is perfectly fine, if not a better idea not to), then reboot into recovery (by any kind of reboot app or by turning the phone off, then back on while pressing and holding the volume down button to get to hboot, then selecting recovery). Once in recovery, there will be a backup option, which will be in a slightly different location depending on recovery (CW or RA). It's not hard to find. That will perform a complete system backup. When restored, your phone will be exactly as it was before. Anything done to the phone after the backup was created will be lost when the backup is restored.

apps/settings backup - usually done from an app called titanium backup. This can backup you apps, app data, and settings. Typically, this is used to save your apps, etc. so that you can transfer them to a new ROM. Keep in mind that it's safest to restore only apps that you need rather than all system data. If there are any incompatibilities, you could end up breaking something. You should absolutely never restore system data (settings) when switching from a Sense based ROM to an AOSP based ROM or back. An example is Cyanogenmod.

so download zip file, back up phone, flash zip from sd card, so if I back up phone i can restore to that date, anything after will not be backed up, when i flash zip can I take it off to save space.

Yep, that's basically the steps. The point of nandroid backup is to go back to a known working state. You most certainly can remove a zip once you're done flashing it. I recommend you keep the zip of your current ROM on your sdcard, because it's an easy way to fix a ROM that may be broken, but you don't have to. You can also move your nandroid backups off the card to your computer, but you should keep at least one known good backup on the card.

flashed MikFroyo ROM 4.4 and loving it.. got everything running and the ROM is running extremely fast. I did the back so everything is cool. now just trying to find an app that detect whats using my battery.:D

spare parts came with the mikfroyo 4.4, go to basic spareparts settings then battery history.

hope this helps :)

thanks..loving the MikFroyo and realized there is some distorting of using preloaded music , Pandora, and slacker when they played on my car stereo. Used my lady's unrooted EVO and everything played fine. wonder I have to update the radios as stated on xda devleopers website. doing the research now

I installed Mikfroyo 4.4 yesterday and every time I made setup changes, the stupid thing would reload the interface and would take forever and pissed me off. I dumped hat shit and went back to my CM6 and love it. I just have to wait for 4G and HDMI support hopefully not too long.

Try flashing the most recent CM7 nightly. 4G works as does HDMI (I think) if you use HDMwIn. It's an app in the marketplace.

CM7 has a far better battery life for me, but from what ive read, it comes down to the physical build of your EVO (which version it is) and the kernel...

or you could just go to CM7 which has gps working(not sure about hdmi, as i dont use that functionality of the device) but yeah.... the most recent nightlies have that worked out apparantly. Just sayin ;)

I believe so. It looks like it, but it has kings optimizations added. It is super sweet. I'm not an aosp guy but I really like it so far.
