error: failed to get root. Is your firmware to new?
Am i doing something wrong? or is there a newer version that will root the phone with the updated firm ware? Help, I am a total NEWBIE!
Reboot to hboot and see if you have s-off.(power off then hold volume down+power). If you have s-off, select recovery and see if loads a recovery screen or you get a triangle and exclamation point.
. Asked that guy one question and bam he's fixed. Asked the other guy like 5 and he apparently fixed because he never came back lolHow is it xtreme that you are helping people with their problems without helping them at all now. .LOL that would be believable but we all know akaza responds with more than just questions lol you'll get an entire dialogue about the inner workings of the evo and android if you ask akaza something.

Im new to this whole thing and I hope I didn't royally F*ck it up!It goes well up until the actual use of the unrevoked tool. The android phone does not show up unless it is in hboot USB, and will make the computer beep three times if not. PM me if you have a solution please! Any help appreciated.
What steps have you gotten through and what have you tried? We should be able to help just need some info.
Actually, i was about to edit that post. I just had to keep updating the drivers until it stuck long enoguh for unrevoked to recognize it. But now unrevoked is stuck on just saying "rebooting". It has rebooted twice, and is now just stuck there.
Hello all, I rooted my phone around Christmas with this guide and all went well. I have had to ignore the installation of the latest software 3.70x build because it was not compatible with the root methodology that was done then. I am looking for the easiest method to update to the latest and greatest now that my Swype beta has expired and supposedly it's now integrated into the stock ROM.
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version 2.15.00.09.01
Kernel Version 2.6.32.15-g59b9e50 ktc-kernel@and18-2 #17
Build Number 3.30.651.3 CL272076 release-keys
Software Number 3.30.651.3
Browser Version: WebKit 3.1
PRI Version 1.77_003
PRL Version 60667
Basically, how (and can I) update this phone? Do I need to unroot and re-root it? Do I unroot it, download all the Sprint updates, then re-root it?
Thanks in advance,
Evan
If it stays there for much longer, check and see if you have s-off in hboot and if you have a recovery flashed. Are you looking to flash a custom rom or stay with the stock one for the time being?
I closed unrevoked and yes, it says S-OFF. For now, I can't decide on a ROM to install, so I will stick with stock.

Can you reboot to recovery from hboot? Do you have the superuser app in your app drawer?
I can sortof boot to recovery, but there is no option for backup and it shows a phone with a red exclamation point triangle next to it. I do have superuser, but it complains about not having some su binary flashed.
It sounds like Unrevoked failed to flash your recovery. You will need to go here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html and download a recovery. Most of us recommend Amon RA 2.3 as it does a better job. The one that Unrevoked was supposed to flash is Clockwork Mod 2.6.0.1 if you want to use that one. Follow the directions there to flash the recovery. We can go from there after you get that done.
