IS Evo getting the latest Sense UI?

this is a major let down and really a bad look on htc's part.. we all know very well that there is no reason that the Evo cant handle sense 3.0

hopefully we at least get sense 2.2, which is what the thunderbolt is running

Didnt HTC clarify that ''some'' aspects of Sense 3.0 will be working for older models? I have to find that link lol.

Yeah, they did mention it in that article, but it's just speculation right now (even coming from HTC) and it wasn't even mentioned which aspects of Sense 3.0.

Evo gingerbread with sense leak, not ready for flashing yet.

ok so it seems that it is not a deffinite that we arent getting sense 3.0.. we just arent getting all of the aspects of it because our phone "cant handle it" .. so it seems to me we're deffinitley getting an updated version of sense along with the gingerbread update but that it will be either sense 2.2 (that which is on the thunderbolt) or a less complex version of 3.0

Not sure if this is old news or not (I did search), but...

If one is to believe the AfterDawn website (which is pretty reliable and has a quote from HTC), there will not be a Sense 3.0 update for any HTC phones with a single core processor.

Sorry older devices, HTC's Sense 3.0 is picky

Bummer. Here's hoping that they at least give us a token Sense UI feature update with Gingerbread.

Not that anything is set in stone, but I did just install the leaked gingerbread rom for the EVO. I can confirm that even that only has SENSE 1.0 :(

This was posted here on the forum yesterday.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sense UI Leaks for HTC EVO 4G

Please explain the difference.
Android is made by Google. The next version to hit the Evo will be 2.3.
Sense is made by HTC. It's an overlay that they place on top of Android and Windows phones. The next one coming to Android is 3.0.

The link that you provided only speaks to Android 2.3 (Google's operating system), not to HTC Sense (HTC's overlay that makes Android more capable and user friendly).

Think of it as a car that comes base-model stock from the factory, versus a car that comes fully loaded with every possible bell and whistle possible (without making after-market alterations). 2.3 is the base-model. Sense 3.0 is the dream...

Please explain the difference.

Well, from a completely visual standpoint, you have no changed lockscreen like you do in 3.0. Your pages are also on a carousel in 3.0, while there is a set end, left and right, in 1.0. Your top drop down bar also gives you toggling options, which are not available in 3.0. You can load the ROM yourself (I did) and it is certainly still sense 1.0. Certainly there are other updates, but these listed are the most visual, IMO.

Lastly, you can check the version of sense you are running in the software information of your rom. This is likely the best confirmation of all.

I don't know if you guys have been following this but the leaked ROM for the Pyramid Sense 3.0 phone weighs in at a whooping 580 mb. There's no way our Evo's could handle that. Besides, if it NEEDS dual cores to run smoothly (which I doubt honestly), well I'll just keep my smooth Supersonic experience for now. Besides, it's just another version of Sense that I most likely would just cover up anyway. Although I do love that lock screen!

How much different is Sense 3.0 versus running something like Launcher Pro + Widget Locker? I see it has some things like light sensors to increase the ring volume if the phone is inside a pocket or increasing shudder speed on the camera, but other than those things is there much difference between Sense 3.0 and LP + WL?

There will be a few visual differences. Your 7 "pages" will be on a carousel. As it stands now, there is an end to the left, and an end to the right. You will also be able to go to page view (not sure if that is what it's called, but I am referring to the screen where you see all of your page screens on on screen) and move the order of the entire page. There is also the new lockscreen UI. Cetrainly there are more little tweaks, but I haven't deeply researched them. I am betting you can emulate most, if not all, of these features somehow, though it is nice to have them all in one, convenient, package for consumers.

I ran Viruses Kingdom Rom with no problems other than the 'Not Working' list which is to be expected.
