Root [Help] My New Paperweight

gaucholax

Newbie
I tried installing gingerbread onto my apex to see if it would work. It did not.
I'm kind of a newb at this whole thing.
The GB came in 3 parts, the 1st did not work and the phone aborted it. The other two worked fine but it seemed as though it would not finish until I installed the first and seeing as that did not work I was like "what the heck, lets install apex from root and maybe that will put me back" so i did that and hit the reboot option.

Now my phone is stuck on the start up "M" which is red, it has been like this for at least 20 minutes. I'm going to class, hopefully you guys can help me out when I get back.

Otherwise I may have to learn, God help me.

sbf back to froyo and start over making sure you follow all the GB installation instructions exactly as they are written.

SBF’ing the Droid X U D G This link teaches you about sbf (restoring). Make sure you have a full battery and you're set. Feel free to ask questions.

Your first mistake was trying to flash these roms without knowing what you were doing. Now that's not too bad, everyone has to learn. But you should have done more research and asked questions before you attempted this.

Don't get me wrong, i'm no expert here and i'm not badgering you. More times than not DX owners try this stuff without learning all they can first. Flashing a rom again isn't going to "get you back to where you were".

Your only option is to SBF back to Froyo as bbuck said and then reflash the GB and then put your Apex back in. Be sure to flash the .588 first. Then you can flash the new .595. When you flash the .595 besure to flash the deodexed/ rooted version if you want to flash roms and themes.

If I forgot anything here please chime in guys. My experiance stops at GB and themes. I don't know much about roms such as Apex, Alpha, etc.

EDIT: Steven you stalk these forum pages don't you?......lmao

Do some research on RSD Lite (the program that will flash your phone) and read everything there is on SBFing on the link that Steven provided above. It is a scary thought that you will be completely reformatting your phone but if you've reformatted and installed any OS on a PC then it should be a breeze. Take your time, if you don't understand a term or method, look into it, research a bit and ask questions. Once you've done it couple times its like a walk in the park, the method stays the same only the route you take may veer from time to time.

Good luck, its not a paper weight, find some juice, charge it up, and have a PC connected to the internet and you will be fine.

I do. I love newbies and have a lot of feeling for them. I was once one and as scared as all blazes. If someone wasn't caring and patient with me, I wouldn't be where I am now in expertise. That's why I'm very patient and encouraging to newbies.

You see, I've made all the ignorant newbie mistakes. That's how I learned. No condemnation here for the newbie, just help.

Gunther89 makes a MUCH needed point. Be sure your battery is charged to At LEAST 80% before you proceed. Thank god I never made this mistake but some do and you will be banging your head into your desk for it......lol

So I cannot charge it? When I started I had 50% battery. Am I in trouble?

If you get it to work within the next try or so, you might be ok, if your battery gets too low/runs out of juice, you will have to worry.

The battery will not charge in bootloader mode.

I cant get the phone to turn off for SBF, it is stuck having this red circle with the M inside. I've tried pulling the battery. How do I turn it off or put it in a mode that will allow me to do the volume down + camera + power button trick?

My suggestion would be to get the SBF file you need and SBF your phone back to stock using RSDlite. Once there, get yer battery charged to 100% first. Then go on to flash GB.

With the phone off, push and hold the home key and power button untill you get the droid triangle. Once you got that hit the up+down buttons at the same time. this will allow you to do a factory reset. Might not work but it can't hurt to try.

Turn off the phone by pulling the battery. After it's off, push and hold down both volume keys at the same time, while still holding the volume keys push and hold the power button for a couple seconds then let go of the power button only; the phone will turn on and be in bootloader mode and you may now release the volume keys.

When in bootloader mode you can apply the 2.3.340 full sbf.

After you apply the sbf successfully, you may have to go into stock recovery to factory resest/wipe data and wipe cache if you bootloop.

The phone will go off once you pull the battery. When you turn it back on hold the home and power keys at the same time till you get the droid triangle.

lol, one of us is right. I'm not sure which one though. I hope he doesn't kill the battery chasing down the correct combination of keys. :)

Bouchigo that file only works in RSDlite do it not?

EDIT: Don't panic. Just find a way to charge your battery. You know anyone else with a DX?

it says "battery low" cannot program.
Is this the point where I start hitting my head against the desk?

pretty much...but don't bang too hard...this will be a tough lesson learned...but you're not stuck yet...here are your options...

1. Find a friend that has an X...swap batteries and flash...
2. Buy a stand alone charger that will charge your battery without being in the phone
3. Head to a local VZW store and see if they will allow you to charge your battery...some will, some wont
4. Get your hands on a "Motorola Factory Cable." You options for that are A. Be good with a soldering iron and make your own...B. Buy one from Team Black Hat for like $50 or something like that...

the cable will allow the phone to get power without even having a battery plugged in...

Yes, I thought he was trying to get into bootloader mode to sbf, not factory recovery???

EDIT:
This might be a case of too many people at once trying to help this guy out......I'm going to stay out of it rather than confuse things/him more.
