Root Creating a boot animation, start to finish.

you use that many different roms and call yourself technically inept? yowza!! i think youve got a better grasp on this than you give yourself credit for lol anyways, I dont think that a flashable zip would make the process any easier, that is provided its even possible. Ive never seen a flashable bootanimation. But the process is quite easy but i can see how some might overthink it. 1: get root exlorer 2: (im gonna use cm7 for this example, but the location of the stock bootanim varies a tad, but not too much) go to sys/media and theres your stock bootanim... change the name to anything you want, i.e. stupidassstockbootanimation.zip lol and then go to the folder that you put the new bootanim in, copy it, go back to the sys/media folder, paste, roboot, enjoy (or dont enjoy, but itll be changed wether or not you enjoy it :P) i of course omitted the d/l the animation file, place on sd card etc etc (seemed kinda like "duh" parts of the process.... gawd im rambling.... )
Sorry. to bother youdoofus but where do I put the mp3 sound file? to work with the boot animation?

Thanks again

Charles

precisely, diff roms that allow for animation sounds look for files named exactly as is set in the system parameters... if its lookin for friggingoldarnbootanimationsound.mp3, you hafta name it exactly that and it hasta be in the exact location its loookin for it in. these things are very specific, but as long as we know what theyre lookin for, we can manipulate them as we see fit :) we're like neo in the matrix lol

Not to sur what happen to that mbancroft guy but here ya go

Thank you first for the file, however when I tried to open with my phone it said it could not find a file to open it with? Also is this just the sound or both the boot animation with sound? Oh yeah my boot animation that is currently in <system<customize<resource has two files 1) hTC_bootanimation.zip and 2) hTC_downanimation.zip Is the downanimation the sound? Do I rename the mp3 file to downanimation or how do I get the phone to know to play the sound when it starts the boot animation. I know I was instructed earlier to place the mp3 file in the same area as the bootanimation but do I need to do anything else or will the phone know to play the mp3 file with the bootanimation file? Sorry just trying to get my head around everything.

Edit: It opened the file and played after all. So no worries there. Just don't know how to combine the animation with the audio.

Thank you for your patience:o

Ok first thats an mp3 file so the music player should open it...? That is only the sound. You may have your music settings set up to ignore certain file types. Or did you rename it? Thats weird...

Ok you are on a sense rom (?) but what the hell rom is that with the atypical naming?

I dunno, open the downanimation file and tell me what ya see in there :)

Typically a proper named .mp3 will play if its just in the same folder as the boot.zip meaning system/customize/resource. it plays it because it recognizes a certain name, if your file has the name it is looking for when its booting it will play it.

Yes sorry It's the new Kingdom port by virus. I will look in a second got to eat lunch take 10 minutes and I'm back. It eventually read the mp3! I am definitely a nerd but I love that track.

i doubt down animation is the sound...oh wait i know what down animation is, its the HTC old television animation that plays when you shut the phone off. Ive seen in once on a ginger sense rom, id bet 100 bucks thats what it is.

I dont know much about that kingdom port, it should support sound but i have no idea what it needs to be named or anything on that port. The naming for the bootanimation.zip has even changed...

I would try placing it in the system/customize/resource folder and giving it the "android_audio.mp3" name and seeing if that works. If it does not I dont have much answers for you regarding that port without doing some digging.

Yeah I did have a nandroid of cm7 so maybe thats where that came from. The current boot animation is virus's "get infected". I like it although I am just about out of internal memory. I have dark tremor and partioned the sd card or so I thought but I may just move everything again and re-partition the card. I'll give your sufggestion a shot. Just name the transformer animation hTCbootanimation.zip and then change the mp3 to the file name you suggested earlier and place it in the same area as the boot animation?

Thanks Charles

Guys,

It worked! I changed the mp3 file to android_audio.mp3 for the audio file

and the bootanimation image file is now hTC_bootanimation.zip

I am currently running Virus Kingdom Rom

No disrespect towards anyone but I am patiently waiting for Myn's 3.0 release. HUGE fan of Myn, Fresh, Virus, Leoisright, Tmartin heck all of the developers, but especially MYN (rock solid). All Very talented folks.

Special thanks to:

I literally could not have done this without your help! I salute you gentlemen! One last question is there a way to reduce the volume level of the music. I restarted this thing at work and OMG! The song was soo LOUD the entire office was looking my direction wondering what the hell was wrong with me :) I tried the volume key but nada HA HA oh well.

Oh Is there an animation without the white flash???
This may have been asked earlier, not for sure.

Yep that is exactly what the down animation is. i turned off the phone and there came the HTC symbol along with the fade out.

courtesy of doofus

"whatcha need to do is d/l audacity, open the audio file in a new session, reduce the gain, export the file to whatever.wav, convert it to mp3, rename it, and put it in the correct spot on the system"

or try adjusting system volume with audio manager, still not sure that would do it but its worth a shot cuz its easier lol

white flash? i havent looked at it but it sounds like you should just open the animation with like 7zip, edit whatever the white flash pngs are out (by replacing them with the non white flash pngs that are right above or below them, just a copy/paste maneuver), and update the archive...then put your new ani back

of course ensuring that ou have the compression set to store when doing so... its funny how one small step can put a huge monkey wrench in things

If you use the update archive function in 7 zip it shouldnt mess with the previous compression settings i dont think, hence update and not recompress or zip or whatever

You guys are amazing! And if I get the time I will try to play with the 7zip thing but I believe you guys are WAY ABOVE my pay grade. I guess the old dog TRYING to learn new tricks. :) I don't play cards or gamble but I have always heard if you are playing cards with a group of people and you are looking around trying to find the "sucker/chump" at the table and you can't find him/her...than YOU ARE the Chump! I am definitely the chump in this group!

Thanks again Youdoofus and Mattnc you guys are incredible.

Need to go to my happy place and suck my thumb for a while.
