I conclusively ruled out the Nexus S today while playing with it at my Sprint store. I know a lot of you really like this phone, so just keep in mind this is simply my opinion.

I have a big problem with the display. I was under the impression that Samsung ditched PenTile, but maybe that's only for the Galaxy S2. The PenTile matrix was very obvious especially when viewing the Android menus (white text on black background). The edges of the text are jagged, and there's serious "chromatic aberration" (CA) present. CA is a photography term used to describe a type of distortion where the left and right edges glow red/blue, or sometimes purple/green. The PenTile makes the white text edges glow red, green, and blue. Really annoying and harsh on my eyes.

the AMOLED screen has good contrast, but pure white still looks very blue to me. I turned up the screen brightness to max and loaded Google. I did the same on my Evo as well as some other smartphones on display. The SAMOLED screen was definitely way off and skewing blue.

Wasn't thrilled about the curvature of the touchscreen. Wasn't sure if that was purely an aesthetic consideration or an ergonomic one. But it was definitely noticeable, and I didn't like it.

I've heard the Nexus doesn't have an external SD card/slot. Couldn't check the demo unit due to the lock on the back.

Vanilla Gingerbread, as I've said in other posts, is a polish release. It retains its simplicity while making some aesthetic and usability improvements. Since I'm running CM7 on my Evo, I'm already very used to GB, so nothing on the Nexus strikes me as novel. For people who haven't experienced GB, it's a good OS. Google is definitely on the right track with Android.

So now that's left is the Kingdom and Evo 3D... My Sprint store has never heard of the Kingdom. I told them it was the code name, not the final name. They still know nothing of another HTC phone. Could there bea chance Kingdom is not going to Sprint?

That leaves Evo 3D and whether I want to upgrade from my fully functioning Evo 4G. I'm really dying to try out the dedicated shutter button, check out the image quality, and of course, check out the 3D effect. Really looking forward to the qHD S-LCD screen. If it's anything like my S-PVA desktop monitors, I'm going to love the color reproduction. Never cared too much about deep blacks; it only makes a difference when the lights are off.

I'm also hoping for a higher-quality casing. My Evo is now cracked at the power button and volume buttons. And I haven't abused the phone or dropped it.

All of the Galaxy S variants are SMOLED and pentile.

And before anyone reports it, the intention in the above post was "polished release" so no reports about attacking Poles, thanks in advance.

even if it were a Polish release, there's nothing offensive about that except what you might preconceive. Which would not be my fault :)

Sorry, I don't consider the S2 to be an S variant.

The S was single core, and SAMOLED.

S2 is dual-core, SAMOLED+.

In the same light, I won't be considering the Kingdom or Evo 3D to be an Evo variant - the Evo continued the Desire-class platform.

The SGS2 and 3dEvo are entire platform changes.

Well, pretty much all the EVO3D has left on its lure for me is potential gaming. I had been waiting for video chat. We got that with Gtalk video (it's a custom ROM, but hey, I have it). I had been waiting for Netflix and was fairly certain we wouldn't see it on the EVO 4G. We got that just today from the official market. I really liked Sense 3.0. We got that in the form of a custom ROM. It's a little bloated, but I bet devs are going to tweak the bajesus out of it to get it at more of an acceptable file size.

All of the sudden, I find myself thinking I might just hang on to my EVO. With Sprint having gotten the Nexus, I think it's safe to speculate they will be getting the following nexus, which should be just around the corner. I might hang on a bit longer and see how that turns out. Have always wanted to try a pure Google phone.

Talk about a negative day on the road to the EVO 3D. I've seen nothing but comments on people wanting more news, and talk of getting other phones. Makes me wonder if anyone ever really wanted it in the first place. I mean if you're not willing to hold out on it and get a Nexus S because it's out currently, then maybe the 3D wasn't for you then. That's besides the point though. I too am thriving for new information on this phone, Sprint has left us out in the clear for far too long, and the HTC locked boot loader stuff certainly isn't helping. But after all that's been said, does anyone here actually still want an EVO 3D?

Well, I think it boils down to the frustration of the lack of release date. Usually Sprint is good with information on their flagship summer phone, but they've been unusually quiet about the Evo 3D for whatever reason.

Who will embrace the locked EVO 3D?

I think people have realized that no major media outlets are caring about Facebook receiving less than 7,000 hits over a locked device. I think HTC is paying lip service to those of you who are upset. If you boycott the phone, you won't be hurting anyone but yourselves.

Not as much as you'd think. Last year you'd have been hurting yourself because there was no other device even close to on par with the Evo. This year the Nexus isn't a bad choice, and the Photon looks like a beast which could in ways be better than the Evo 3D, and may be out in July...and that's without looking at other carriers or further down the road to something like the SGS2.

It won't necessarily hurt HTC too much, but it certainly won't hurt the people who defect all hat much either.

It probably is lip service. Maybe they actually are talking about it, but their hands are tied by the owners in Taiwan who don't see this. Maybe they'll actually go through with it. We have no way of knowing unless they announce that they are reversing their policy.

Maybe they'll leak the engineering bootloader like they did the TBolt. That solves the greatest number of problems. For the 90% or whatever amount of phones never get rooted, they are still secure. For those who want to mod, they got to dig around in mod forums and get the leaked bootloader. If HTC has to answer about the bootloader getting leaked, they can say it was an unofficial release and can not control it.

/shrug Only time will tell. And seeing how making a protest post on facebook, signing an online petition, and writing an email to the people in HTC only takes about 10 minutes...I figure I might as well show them my displeasure in their decision. Instead of...you know...rolling over and taking it.

Hurting myself? How - Buy Not Buying a Phone I don't want?
NO Thanks - I will wait -
Motorola Photon will will be out in July.....Quad cores in the Fall....

I just joined this forum from Sprint users and those guys were acting like they were going to riot. I guess your moderators stamped that stuff out over here. I thought people on the other forum was going to cry and they want people to boycott the phone too. Oh well.

Oh we are ready to riot, don't think that is not going to happen. We are. But we also know that you can not change the course of a river in one day, you need to take your time, be determined and focus.

The best way to to get htc to change their minds is social engineering. We need to keep up the conversation in a logical and precise manner. Getting all angry with pitch forks and touches is only going to make them dig in and us seem like idiots. We have won the first round, ball is in their court, all we have to do is make sure they understand they have to play this game with consistent pressure. They are not apple, we will walk away.

I feel your pain though. I feel as though every app should have the capacity to be uninstalled. If I'm not using half of the apps that came with the phone I should be able to uninstall them.

Mods don't really get involved here unless the users are rioting against each other. I would think the rioting you refer to is against HTC. As several mods say around here, "Debate the issue, not the poster." HTC is fair game.

I will take an EVO 3D. The time must be close for the launch of the phone since HTC got everyone all riled up over the locked EVO 3D. I think it would be funny if HTC goes "sike, the phone isn't locked." I bet people would go get the EVO 3D.

These are not official forums represented by anyone. It's a fan site, more or less. A very large one, but a fan site none-the-less. As a result, you don't see this place advertised in Sprint or HTC fliers, manuals, or websites (more than likely). The Sprint forums, on the other hand, are on those websites. So while I'm sure the Sprint forums have fans in it...they likely collect people who have problems with the service and want to complain. And misery loves company. If you need proof of this, go to the World of Warcraft forums.

I think you misunderstood. He didn't come from Sprint's forums, he came from the Sprintusers forum, or at least that's how I read it.

I'll happily admit that if it isn't locked down, I'll most certainly look very hard at it again, and assuming that the Moto event doesn't announce something earth shattering, end up with a 3D. That said, I'm looking very hard at other options currently under the assumption that it will be locked and HTC won't be doing anything to change that.

Like others have said, we are up in arms, so to speak. In my case, I am simply moving on in my search. The locked bootloader/lack of release date has put me back into wait mode. Atm, I am considering waiting until the Nexus 3 arrives. Andy Rubin/Nvidia spokeman have talked up a 2011 Q4 release. That is only six months away.

Welcome to the forums!

You're now a part of the oldest and largest Android user group forum.

Maybe we're a little cooler over here because we don't need to run in circles fixing blame, we know who to blame. So - we just focus on fixing the problem.
