Root Unrevoked3: Is your firmware too new?

For me it was as simple as making sure my system was completing booted and settled before starting the Unrevoked3 process. After doing this it worked flawlessly with the modified HBoot Driver.
 
All 5 Evo's I"ve rooted have been from setting usb to disk drive, it never worked for me by putting usb in charge only mode! all the Evo's have hardware 0003 and base band 2.2 2.15.00.11.19 software 3.70.651.1 using windows 7!

I have done 6 so far and all on "Charging Only" but I am doing it on a Vista machine. I wonder if the Windows OS is the issue with this.
 
Ive heard this problem more than once recently and they were all on windows 7

I rooted with xp on charge only just fine
 
I am having the Is your firmware to new problem. I've gone through the most of the fixes in this article but still no. I really want to root my HTC wildfire so i can get CyogenMod. If there is a way of getting how to put CyogenMod on without having to root please tell me.

This is what I do
1. uninstall htc sync
2. turn on usb debugging
3. install the run the enrevoked softare
4. it re boot the phone until it says waiting for phone to settle then it says Error: Cannot install root firmware. Is your firmware too new? So it fails

I have tried other ways of rooting but i get really annoyed when I find it says direct to the android sdk folder through CMD

I use Windows 7 will that change anything.
I will try it using vmware and linux


Can anyone help? Please!
 
have you done a factory reset? do you have any anti-virus software running on either or both your computer and phone? have you tried just leaving the htc sync installed?
 
I ran the unrevoked3 process and it said it was a success, I got the "S-OFF" when I rebooted (held down power and volume down) but when I try to start Titanium Back-Up I get: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.

What did I do wrong?
 
full root has three parts; s-off, rooted rom, custom recovery.

You have s-off; check

Do you have a custom recovery installed? CLockwork Mod or Amon ra?

Rooted rom; TiB runs, do you have super user app? If you type su and hit enter in terminal emulator does it return #? If so your rom is rooted, check...

I don't know if I have a custom recovery installed, how do I find this out?

I did download "Android Terminal Emulator" and when I hit "su" and enter the first time I got a "permissions" message, then I hit "su" again and I did get the "#" sign.

To make sure you have recovery you need to try and boot to recovery
the app quick boot can do this for you, or spare parts
or you can do it the old fashioned way and power off, then power up by holding vol down + power, this takes you to hboot(bootloader), from there navigate down and select recovery, if it goes to clockwork mod or amon ra then you have a custom recovery.

I just got done doing a recovery the "old fashioned" way, it did say something about Clockwork Mod. I did the back-up and it completed. Now I just downloaded ROM Manager and it is performing the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". Do I still need to do this even though I already did the back-up the other way? Is this just going to be a double back-up?
 
OK you made a nandroid back up in recovery, cool

Rom manager is the front GUI sort of for clockwork mod. When its says flashing clockwork mod recovery its actually just updating your recovery img. I actually prefer you to have clockwork mod 2.6.0.1 or amon ra 2.3. You can flash either of these in rom manager by selecting flash alternate recovery and choosing one.

YOu do not need to make another back up in rom manager as it will just do what you just did in clockwork itself

My suggestion is to flash the alternate recovery, amon ra, and get used to doing things manually without rom manager but thats just my opinion...rom manager will not function if you flash amon ra, not that you need rom manager, just saying

I had already started the "Back-up current ROM" with ROM manager and the phone rebooted and now it has been stuck on a white screen that has the HTC EVO 4G logo on it...did I screw something up or should I just try to turn it off and back on again?

Thats why i dont like rom manager lol. Not that its a bad program but unless you know what its doing you cant exactly use it, yet its more appealing to noobs because they think its the simple way.

Its fine just pull the battery and reboot. Im not sure why it got stuck during a back up...?

I guess I am stuck using ROM manager for now since I just paid for it. Do you suggest tying the "Back-up current ROM" again with ROM manager and risking going to that white boot up screen again just so I can get this part done already?
 
you made a back up in recovery itself did you not? before you even tried rom manager. You dont need a second one. I wouldnt try again but then again i havent kept rom manager on a rom in 6 months...

you arent stuck with it :) you have 15 minutes for a refund also :)

Ahh...O.K. Yes I made the back-up the "old-fashioned" way first. So I guess at this point I am free and clear to try some new ROMS and first thing to get rid of the Sprint bloatware.

yes sir, do it all the manual old fashioned way you will thank me later :) when your phones gets stuck, and it will from time to time, you will have a much easier time getting right out of it if yiu are familiar with your recovery. Learn it, love it. :)

Flash away friend. Also most roms you flash have the bloatware removed so if you are flashing on dont even bother removing bloat...
