Root Screen Cut off From Nexus S to Evo?

I was playing around at Best buy on the new Nexus S and Gingerbread is awesome! I also noticed that when you turn the screen off, it kind of does like an old tube style TV when you turn it off. Anyone know if this will be something that comes along with gingerbread for evo? or is it possible to make this happen on our phones?

I thought it was really cool.

That's the Nexus S off screen. Some of the Evo ROMs have it. CM7 has it so it could be an AOSP feature. Ask your ROM developer if he/she can include it in the next version of their ROM.

I think there is still question as to whether it will or not... I'm rooted and running a leaked version of gingerbread and it does not have the screen off animation you are referring to... I do know that some of the developers have built it into their respective ROMs they have built.

I like it too, you can also have the 'turn on' animation play (same thing).
Every GB rom that I've used has it thus far (CM7, MIUI to name a couple)

So it doesn't look like it is a part of official GingerBread from HTC and Sprint. Seems like Sense has its own fade in, fade out animations when you use the power button that are slightly different than Froyo was.

Maybe it's more of an AOSP thing and not a Sense thing, I personally hate it but that's just me:cool:

Virus 2.3 ROM has this and so does Mik Roms. pretty neat feature. At first i though this was something new with sense but it looks like it's a gingerbread feature.

For reference to anyone else out there wondering what this thread is about:

I don't know why it wouldn't be a part of Official Gingerbread for Evo unless Sense disables it. Although if its not enabled/included, like the other guys said, request it from your favorite ROM or find someone that has added it to their ROM already.

So over in the Evo 3D forum this same old style TV animation 'feature' came up in this thread: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/376361-tv-screen-off.html. A workaround was put forth and I wanted to make sure to come back to this thread and provide a resolution of sorts.

There is an app on the Android Market called Screen Off and Lock by Katecca that provides a similar animation style as the original poster was looking for. It is obviously not as seamless as the Nexus phones, and the screen technology is different so it is going to appear dissimilarly, but this is pretty close.

Check out this video of the application in action (Skip to :30 seconds):
