Pretty impressive that you know about that phone, marc! Much less have used one! Will leave as an exercise for others to figure it out. ;) :)

OFF TOPIC starts......

EM,

yes sir I wish i could still use that guy. i paid close to 900 bux for it for use on ATT. the PCMCIA cards were about 400 dollars for 256 MB. still works for 911 calls.. ;)

and ooh yes im not going to get started on my "portable" mobile car phone that used a full 5 WATTS of power from a nearly 9 inch long NP style camera battery!

If you have a mint condition "brick" phone, you could probably get it back and more now. They are collector items.

Was AT&T separate from cellular one at this point? I had phones on cell one in the early 90's (well, my mom did) and from what I understand that company eventually became the current AT&T via Cingular.

It's funny... my mom recently went into an At&t store to upgrade her iPhone 3G to an an inspire... she can't help but brag about the fact she's been a customer since 91. It's partly embarrassing, but at the same time it's amusing to see the gears turning in the salesman's head: "did cell phones even exist in 91?"

Bag phones FTMFW.

Wait I'll tell WifelyMon that all this junk is in my home office because I'm a collector of objets de tech!

Ahahahahahahaahahahahha - that's worth a day in the dog house right there!!! :D

Early, don't forget to help her understand how smart you were to know decades ago how much this stuff would eventually be worth. :D For example, if you have one of those original console PONG games you would really be in the money.....

Cellular One, that brought back memories, I can still hear the message that played using my dads phone "The Cellular One U.S. customer you are trying to reach is not available..." atleast I think thats what it used to say. Zach Morris on Saved By the Bell used to carry one of those bricks

I knew the designers of the original Pong bar table. They designed it, qual'd the production prototypes and walked away. Who would ever really play such things, they asked. :p

My uncle had a car phone and I used to think he was the coolest!. He picked me up from school one day in his Maco Shark Corvette and let me use his car phone to and I felt like a princess ;)

more OFF TOPIC.. :D

yes, separate.

the first cellular company i went with was a re-seller for Bellsouth Mobility. THEN Cingular came later. they had a suite inside a office complex. no phones out for sale.. just 2 people who had brochures of phones. you order.. they sent the order to their distributor.

I had a portable car phone as early as 1990 ish. had my first "beeper" in 1987. it was a Phillips model alphanumeric (no vibrate). could hold 9 numbers in memory. had to call a 800 # to leave a message. later i paid the big bux and got my own personal number... :D

fun stuff. i stiill have a couple "beepers" and my mint condition Startac (paid close to $1000.00 for this-no contract) and the motorola clip-on organizer.. google it if you want.. :D got my hitachi G1000 and my kyocera 6035.. :) been a early adopter for ever.. :D i got the EM syndrome...

When I first started my new job back in like 93 and it was 2nd shift my dad paid 40 bucks and bought me a bag phone that plugged into your cigarette lighter to use for night in an emergency. I had Verizon back then. I've been through many phones since then and have been with Sprint for almost 10 years. I had like 5 different Sanyo phones then got the Purple Lotus and then the TP2 which I sold last year to buy the EVO. And now Sprint has my EVO I'm using my purple lotus and am upset I have to wait 3 weeks. I was going to go into the store today and add a line and cancel it within 30 days and if the EVO 3 D was to get delayed a little longer then it's back to my purple lotus.

But I can't wait 3 weeks. And if I use my upgrade and the 3D isn't out in 30 days I'm screwed. But if I add a line and cancel within 30 days and the 3D isn't out I'll just wait it out. But the store closed at 8 and I didn't make it there today so maybe tomorrow. I'll get a new EVO I have a good Seido case and I'll keep it in great shape for 3 weeks and not put a lot of stuff on it. My friend got the GB update today and is coming over later to show me any difference there is. Cause the store said there new phones have GB already. I have an Archos internet tablet and Netflix works on it and it's a 10 inch so that's good. I have my Scrabble and other stuff on the tablet so technically I should be able to be without an EVO but I always talked dial so and so number text to so and spoke my emails it played my text in my ear I miss all that.. Flex T9 swype keyboard with dragon dictation is awesome. I miss it all!

My uncle had a car phone and I used to think he was the coolest!. He picked me up from school one day in his Maco Shark Corvette and let me use his car phone to and I felt like a princess ;)

Offtopic:

does the inclusion of the syntax for "offtopic... /Offtopic"
make the post un-deletable / un-removable by mods?
is this new?
system.out.println("mod was here");
/Offtopic
system.out.println("here too");

:P :confused: ;)

Dunno if this has been posted before yet, but I was poking around Picasa and found this album of Evo 3D pictures from a Sprint employee:

https://picasaweb.google.com/jennifer.ruggiero/MountJefferson#

Mostly outdoor stuff so it doesn't give us a good sense of the camera's low light capability, but it is something to take a look at. Decent detail though for better or worse, the saturation is kept down.
