Root [Guide] How to setup Gparted/Alpharev (or any .ISO) with VMware Player (updated Jan 2012)

Isnt it menu>settings>storage? maybe called something else on HTC 2.2 roms though. Or have you got a card reader?

So when you mount "USB mass storage" via recovery - in windows, it cant see it / do it either? Youre not using "mount sdcard" are you in recovery?

No there's no ROM running at the moment, it won't do anything.

I partitioned the card which seemed to go fine, flashed the ROM which then got stuck for 20 mins on the same spot so I pulled the battery & that's it.

The phone doesn't boot at all & won't read the SD card.

I've no reader to reformat it & Gparted won't see it.

Think I've stuffed it :(

EDIT: Just bootloops.

did you do a full wipe before flashing the rom? What rom did you flash?

You may have to get a card reader. Theyre a couple of quid. Will it boot without the card? Have you another card?

Yeah I did a full wipe.

I was flashing the 1st version of Leedroids HD ROM & this is where it gets weird.

I flashed the 1st version a few days ago not realising you needed a 1gb partition (I had 512mb) & it ran fine. When I came to flash V2 it wouldn't work, just got stuck on the same spot.

So I decided to do it properly by re-partitioning the card to a 1gb.

As I said that seemed to go OK but when I flashed V1 again it got stuck, pulled the battery & nothing since then.

Don't have another card & no reader either. Not tried booting it without the card.

I guess my best bet is to buy a reader, reformat it using Gparted, put it back in the handset & see what it does from there.

thats all I can suggest really. It obviously saw the card until the flashing so not sure whats happened here.

Tried it again this morning & it still won't mount the card :(

Took the card out & the phone boots so it's obviously something to do with the card.

Gonna buy a reader today & partition it again & see what happens.

Is it just a case of repartition it & then maybe flash a ROM & see what happens?

I did take a backup of the card but don't keep a lot on it so not really all that bothered if I lose the stuff.

Where's the best place to get an adapter on the high street?

Maplins.

Sounds like we need to format the card before any partitioning.

Don't flash a Rom straight after. Just boot into existing Rom and check the card works. Download quick system info to see if the ext partition is visible to it

Thanks for your help mate.

Will see how I get on.

If you get really stuck and can't fix it with a card reader, send the card and reader to me and I'll try and fix it for you

Could try another card then?

After I do step 14 while having "ISOBooter" highlighted, I don't get the prompt in step 15? Also after this, it messes up my computer by disabling certain letters on my keyboard?

It's running a virtual machine so when it runs or if you click on the virtual machine (guest), you are controlling the vm and NOT your computer (host).

If you look at the bottom left task bar of VMWare, does it say something like press ctrl g to return to your computer?

It says, "To direct input to this personal machine, press Ctrl+G".

And when you press that it should then have something to relinqusih control. I havent got anything infront of me to confirm exactly. So you just need to make sure that you are aware what you are controlling at the time.

Providing you did step 13)

The prompt just tells you to do the same as shown in the last screen shot. Follow the screenshot instead of the prompt.

While I am on the page with the virtual machine playing, I do see the icon at the bottom, but it is grayed out... Is that bad? Also, *EVERYTHING* else seems to be like it is in the guide, so if that is not what is causing me to fail partitioning my SD card... Then I have no idea what is.
