Official HTC Inspire Gingerbread Update Rumor Thread

I did my update yesterday and my phone is still unlocked. Thanks for answering my question.

About the battery, its 12 pm and i still have 88% of my battery. I woke up at 8 am and made 2 short calls, checked news and facebook for an hour and 20 mins of angry birds. I got my phone on friday, charged it the whole night and used it the whole day yesterday. I had to charge it at 3 am (battery at 13% by that time) and yesterday night to.

My battery life today is better than yesterday, but I cant tell its because of GB cause i used Froyo only for a day.

yea....my battery life is TURRRRIBLE....My phone was at 56% when i went to sleep last night at 10 when i woke up.......and this is a daily problem ever since GB....I even lose battery life while on the car charger

Should i call HTC????

If you are losing battery life while charging then there is a problem. You can either call htc or att. Att will probably suggest a hard reset like they do for every problem then say do a warranty exchange in which case you will get a refurb.

Several of us are having this texting issue.

I can't seem to figure out what the issue is because for me, if I edit the contact and add a + in front of the phone number if there is not one, or take out the + if there is already one (not sure why some have it already and some don't) then it seems to add the name to the texts..... and oddly, some will show just the name, some will show the name and the phone number together. No consistency in how my text show up... and yet all my contacts look exactly the same in how I entered all their info.

Oh and over at XD, or is that DX? lol.. Im a newbie.... there is a post that addresses this issue and they say that it's being worked on.

I've seen this too, and it is very irritating because in some cases I don't know who the text is coming from. At first, I thought the issue was that for my linked contacts who have both Google and Phone entries, the default was to the Google name and changing it to the phone name fixed it, but then the issue happened again to the same contact. So then I thought the number had to match exactly and I added a 1 to the numbers. And it still happened later on. So editing and saving the contact will make the person's name come back, but receiving a text while the phone is locked seems to make the problem re-appear in some cases. Is this HTC or a Gingerbread problem, as this wasn't a problem with Froyo.

I would say my sleep/idle battery life usage is much improved, but normal app use drains the battery about the same as before. Also, I'm highly disappointed the CRT sleep effect was not included in the update! How do you leave out the coolest part of Gingerbread?!?! That one is definitely on HTC!

That thing of the + happened to me once and i just added that + on the contacts number and solved the problem. You say the issue comes back, but I havent experienced it yet because im more of whatsapp/liveprofile type, not sms.

Hello guys. I received my Inspire yesterday. I bought it on amazon, I live in Honduras. The phone is unlocked and I can used it with no problem with my local service provider. I even made a clean up of the phone and I didnt lost the unlock. My question is, if i update to GB will I lose the unlock functionality? The phone is not rooted, I can still see some AT&T widgets and apps.

I have an AT&T Inspire and use it it Canada, it's unlocked (not rooted) also. Got the OTA update last night and everything works great. Every feature, function and app is fine. I'll see how the battery life goes today on a full charge...

UPDATE- 3 full days with GB, with moderate use I've averaged 25 hours stand-by easily. No dialer issues and everything seems fine.....Impressive...

GB update improved my battery life big time. Haven't had a low battery notification yet, before I was getting one daily after 8 hours of use. Now it lasts the full day and then some. I also got the texting problem but it self-corrected after a day.

First impressions:

Everything seems smoother and more polished. Like the look of the new icons.
Phone seems faster.
Battery life is reduced
Gmail app will not sync
The new Market app does not update apps correctly, I have uninstalled and am using the old Market.
HTC Update button is gone.

just got it a few moments ago. so far no problems at all, although that might be because there's barely any difference between froyo? i can text using text free, missed a few calls with google voice getting the voicemail. however, the only main difference i've noticed is that text prediction isn't as good as it used to be. even the keyboard is the same as froyo, rather than it looking like the newer one. i'm going to restart it and see if anything changes.

EDIT 2 hours later: watched 15 minutes worth of videos on 33% screen brightness, used around 6% battery life. Text prediction seems a little off after a brief chat with a friend. Still no new keyboard?

Edit , 8 hours of stand by, used only 3. Percent of my battery.

i was getting the same issue with my weather not updating and had to go to Accounts & Sync in settings and check the first two boxes back.

Also im getting the issue with text messages showing numbers not names any word on this getting fixed?

Anyone else have "attwifi" in your list of saved wifi networks after the update?

I had to take it out, it was automatically connecting to wifi and messing with me anytime I'd go into a walmart or mcdonalds, I'd get "no network" errors from my weather widget or subsonic music player. Finally figured out it's because that network was set to auto connect and you have to try to navigate to any random page in a browser 1st so you could get the wifi agreement page.

The issue with the text messages showing numbers is very "popular" now. I heard HTC know about this issue and they are working on an update to fix this bug.

I upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.3 last night on my HTC Inspire 4g. I downloaded the file from HTC.com. It took about 10 minutes like it said. My phone seems to work fine, now all I have to do is get all my apps reloaded, The one app I purchased showed up on Android Market (JuiceDefender) but now I wonder if i'll need it with the improvements on Battery usage in 2.3.3.

The best thing I've seen so far is now you can download non-market apps, Like those on Amazon marketplace. Unknown sources option is now available in application settings. Thanks! There was supposed to be a way you could get this turned on, sans Rooting, but required getting to the right person at AT&T. I now can get my free app of the day on Amazon!
i cannot for the life of me find the android market 2.3.3 download on htc.com

i tried doing that and it tells me it is unable to connect and to make sure my wifi or network connection is on in settings and it takes me to the settings page and it shows that both my wi fi and network connections are already connected... help!

Try turning ur Mobile Network off and just keep the Wifi on. That's what I had to do. Hope it helps.

As for the texting issue, my wife's Inspire was having problems, too. The last 2-3 days, SMS works fine, but couldn't send/receive MMS. Took two calls and at&t tech support to finally fix it. Ironically, my Atrix phone randomly re-started during the tech support conversation and got disconnected. Luckily, they called my wife's phone back to finish helping us.

EDIT: This GB 2.3.3 update (2.3.4 for mine) has been acting weird, not liking these random problems at all.

The weather/clock widget now has sound when it animates.. The rain and thunder noise caught me off guard haha took me a while to figure out what it was!

I was trying to get the GB update via AT&T Software Update on my Inspire 4G but it didn't work. It says my phone is up to data already but the version is still 2.2.1. For some reason my Android Market App is brand new. Am I supposed to receive the update via AT&T?
