Traitorous thoughts!

You don't share cheese puffs with minions!
You give them gingerbread!!!

Now I want Cheese puffs. LOL
I'd rather wait for the HTC Vigor but if this screw up my phone just don't want to hassle with VZW CS. Those folks drive me nuts. LOL :D

You rarely have to actually deal with VZW CS - just follow what the people on AF say. We have the answers. :D

Only use VZW in the event of a complete phone meltdown or billing issues. Minor things like their tech team being completely incompetent can be solved here or at the not-as-friendly xda site. :p:D

I recieved the update today. But I was already on the leaked Gingerbread built from 2 weeks ago, built .2. If I press Update on my phone will I lose root access?

Got update this am! No issues at all, phone runs like butter now.....In Nashville, TN by the way. I thought the wifi, gps, moblie switch icons were going to be in the notifications bar now? Maybe thats just a new Sense thing.

Hey Nightangel, got my replacement and it came with 2.2 hahaha! U were wrong haha now I have s-off before I get the update lol..

Hmmmm. Cheese puffs!

That gingerbread looks to be better than the one VZW is pushing out now. And I think we've stumbled upon a great name for a future Android update....cheese puff. I can see it now..."Where's meh cheese puff?"...HHA

Just checking in to say I woke up to a notification that a system update was ready for installation. I approved it, and it started installing...At the 30% mark, I got an error - red caution symbol, no text. Phone was stock; never rooted. I rebooted (there was little else to do), and the phone restarted fine, but was not updated (and indicated no system updates were available). VZW just told me to wait and try again when I got a notification...I wasn't optimistic.

I have been waiting on this update to use the built-in SIP capabilities with my office phone...I'd been considering rooting before today, and the error today (and my lack of confidence in VZW tech support if the error continued) was the tipping point. I rooted and flashed a ROM (Official INC OTA 4.06.605.3) with no trouble.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions, in this thread and throughout the forums. I'm happily using my Incredible as my VOIP device at work today largely because of information available on this site.

All these dumb issues with the OTA make me glad I went with CM7. How can some of these issues get by Q/A unless they only test on one, virginal device with no user installed apps and never actually visit the market or anything? Total fail.

I'd love to see you design a better testing methodology. The issues they are seeing are very hard to pick up on (ok, they should have definitely caught the sd card problem. But I'm guessing they DID, they just didn't bother to resolve it.)

To reliably catch the market issues you'd have to go INTO market, try and find a Verizon specific app. That's not a test procedure I'd think of doing.

Still don't have my update. Being the data jockey that I am as part of my job (I'm also a software product dev manager), I'm always looking for patterns...

Been with Verizon since they took over some other communications company in the early 00's (anyone remember Worldcom) and I had to give up using my beloved StarTac.
408 area code.
Activated on May 5 - a few short days after 1st sale of the phone
Never rooted
Don't subscribe to any Verizon services above and beyond my phone and data plan for this phone.
Got a phone number that starts with an 8 and ends with a 0
Brown hair, brown eyes, 128 pounds, female, Cancer, chainmailler, knitter, CafeWorld addict - this is sounding like a personals ad now.
I adore cheese puffs (both the orange styro ones, and homemade ones with Gruyere and Parmesan).
I squealed like a 5 year old girl at Christmas with a new puppy when I got Eclair because that's my favorite pastry.

Hm. I wonder if the knitting is a strike against me. I *could* try and forget how to do it, but I don't think that would be easy.

I am rooted and have been for over a year (used unrevoked) I only rooted to gain more control and install a few programs that required it. I haven't installed any custom ROMs or anything, just using the stock ROM. I have a few questions,

Will my INC receive an OTA update?

Will it kill my root?

How do I get the root back once it does?

I love using Titanium backup etc.

please help. I dont want VZW to Fudge up my phone. But I do want 2.3...

This was a GREAT update! It asked if I wanted to install it, so I said SURE, install!

It reboots the phone, sets it to factory defaults, then it didn't update. So not only did I not get the update, it let me redo everything on my phone since it wiped it clean......

God I love Verizon!

If I use the 2.2 stock RUU back to froyo from CM7 (s-off) can I get the 2.3 update while still being rooted and able to flash other roms/back ups via rom manager and restore apps via titanium backup?

You can go back to 2.2 with CWM recovery, it dont matter then. If you want the update, then flash the 2.2 stock recovery and you might get it

yeah, I bet you'll love the temporary performance boost that the factory reset gives too ...

If you use the 2.2 RUU it will unroot you although s-off will remain so root can be restored later. However the best plan by FAR if you want stock GB is to flash a rooted OTA rom from xda. Then you end up with the same thing and maintain root the whole time. Plus, depending on which Rom you choose, some of the more minor fixes have already been applied to patch up verizons oversights.
