Root [rom] blackao5p v2.2.1 updated 9/19/11

i did the cwm update, but did a batt pull anyways... oh well it worked lol. so it automatically has adw launcher on it? is that what it runs off of or can i somehow change that? where do i get that kernal?

im using smartass right now

There's a thread in the All Things Root section called LeanKernel 3.6.0 and there's links to 3.5.8 in there.

You can run any launcher, sans sense, you want.

which is the best kernel for the rom? i want a very fast phone.

My two favorite kernels are Tiamat's and Imo's:

Tiamat: HTC Thunderbolt
Imo: [KERNEL] [AOSP] leanKernel: minimalistic kernel (v3.6.0, 9/11/11)

I'm currently using Tiamats 1.1.2 and loving it. As far as which one is the "best", its really all about trying each one out and seeing for yourself. However I have heard of some users battery llife suffering on Imo's kernels after 3.5.8, but I cannot attest for his newest which is 3.6.0.

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone else's lockscreen has been really fast with this ROM? I've used cm7, liquid thunderbread, and shift and what they all had in common was slight to moderate lockscreen lag. On blackao5p however it seems to be instantaneous just about every time.

What governer are you using? I don't have any lag with unlocking, I also don't lock the home screen in memory.

SMARTASS. Do you think it could be the auto backlight? I turned it off and it seems to be better. It was getting to the point where it would take about 5 seconds to unlock and then i would have to wait about 5 more seconds until my phone became responsive.

I unchecked JIT as well. The rest of the ROM is snappy... it was just the lockscreen and the seconds after i unlocked it.

I posted this in another thread but I built it specifically for this rom ;)

It is IMO's 3.5.8 with anykernel built in. Currently this is a WIP, I believe everything functions as it should and it should not break DT's tweaks because it does not overwrite the ramdisk.
Currently the only issue I know of is the speedtweak.sh script is broken, I will look into fixing that tonight if I can. I know there are reports of the script not working on DTs release of IMO's 3.6.0 so it could be an issue with anykernel but I hope not :D

In a couple of my test builds I lost wifi completely but this should not have that issue, if you flash this please give me some feedback!

Oh yeah, I am not responsible for you borking up your phone. Please backup, wipe cache and dalvik prior to flashing, and have an alternate kernel on your SD just in case ;)

well im assuming with this rom im using tiamats 1.1.2... i went to kernel under about phone and it says...

2.6.35.14-Tiamat_mecha-v1.1.2+cayniarb@prime #1

If you are having lock screen issues you may want to try using interactive for the governer. I know on IMO's kernels he has tweaked interactive to be more responsive after sleep.

im not having any issues at all, but i tried switching between governors and it doesnt seem like there is any difference at all.

I know everyone has been on pins and needles worried about my not being able to get the GPS to work correctly. I have now fixed that by loading the rom, then loading one of the sense roms without data and didn't wipe anything and reloaded the blackasop backup. GPS now works like a charm. Can't figure out how that works, but it does.

Loaded up IMO 358 and it was my first kernel tweak. This rom is excellent. my favorite. Also i was surprised how long it took the kernel to boot up...small file but obviously does a lot of "stuff."

@yeaha: let us know when you get your anykernel version dialed in.

I've also wondered why that works. I think there are GPS stats that keep last known location in an area that isn't normally wiped when you wipe a rom and that helps it know where to look.

I'm at work right now, I think I know what I need but I won't know until late tonight/tomorrow when I go on my next flashing spree, if you know the voltages the slots are set on with the speedtweak.sh script then you can manually do it with setCPU and incredicontrol I think. But after 14 flashes this morning I just decided to run the rest of the day off the version I posted.

This ROM is my dd for most of the foreseeable future. It does everything you could need it to do and does it very quickly. I can't believe more people aren't giving this one a shot.

Perhaps the letters/numbers name is intimidating:confused:

I think the issues with it needing /system wiped on some phones and dt extracting himself from XDA as well as rootz have deterred people

Trying this out with imo's 3.5.8 kernel, extreme and ondemandx. Started on CM7, switched to BAMF 2.4.1, briefly tried BAMF Forever, and realized I prefer AOSP so now I'm back to to this ROM. So far it's running great. Green Power doesn't work so we'll see how battery life stacks up to BAMF, which was phenominal with Green Power. Thanks to everyone for your feedback.

ok well at first i had no problems at all with the rom... now on my 2nd day of using it, i have been experiencing some problems....first, the lock screen lags...sometimes worst than others... when i go to unlock it, it doesnt go with my finger, takes it a few seconds.. then it lags when i get into my home screen n finally it pics up.... battery life, SUCKS. and all last night i was experiencing problems with the internet, the 3G didnt pick up for like hours, then finally i barely got it where usually i would have a good signal, i also had 1 bar or none, all night. this may b the verizon network but im just throwing it in there.....

Sounds like you aren't pulling enough power, quick enough, when you wake the phone up.

It's most likely idling really low to save battery but you need to pick a kernel that ramps up faster and gives some juice.

If battery life also sucks... then you should try a different kernel, play with governors etc. Not every phone likes the same setup.

I use interactive for the governer and the 3.5.8 kernel is the best one available IMO I always get good battery life on it

ok what about the service issue? like just now i tried to load this webpage on my phone and it took 5 minutes n kept saying cannot load and kept going in and out of 4G... i NORMALLY get 4G just fine at my house... but now its messing up.

oh and btw, where can i get the 3.5.8 kernel and what all does it change? will the phone be the same looking just run different?

3.5.8 thread here http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/408965-imoysens-leankernel-3-5-8aosp.html

I think your service issue may be VZW not the rom. I haven't had issues with service with this rom. Also are you using updated radios?

Hi,
Been running imoseyon 3.5.8 with audio fix as per your suggestion and its working great.. So what is benefits of using your remake with any kernel?
Also would you plan on making a version with the 3.5.8 audio tweak kernel as a base?
Thanks,
Bryan

In case it might help someone considering this, I wanted to change the battery icons to ones without percentage. I downloaded the apk for the stock battery with no percentages from DT's site, went to apply it in Theme Chooser, and it gave me an error about not being sized correctly for my ROM. There was an Apply Anyway button and since I had already backed up my ROM I figured what the heck. As far as I can tell it worked fine and the change was immediate which was nice. This was my first attempt at anything theme related. Haven't done any research on theming so if this is common knowledge I apologize.

If you flash the rom and don't want to lose DT's tweaks to the ramdisk but you want to run imo's 3.5.8 then my kernel will do allow you to however you wnlont get imo's tweaks to the ramdisk so you would need to manually overclock as speedtweak.sh is part of the ramdisk
