3) I have been trying to root my phone over 9000 times, what do I do?
Try downloading this <<LINK DELETED>> this is what finally worked for me.

This link is broken. The other versions in this thread aren't working for me.

Running Windows 7, No SD card in Phone, Debugging Activated, Drivers installed, Starting the 1 click at Samsung logo on phone reboot, doesn't work for me (7+ tries).

Can someone point me at a KMS version that has been recently successful?

Thanks

I had a lot of trouble getting it to happen here as well. This is what finally worked for me...
uninstall the samsung drivers > reboot > don't plug in the usb yet > reinstall the drivers > reboot > plug in the phone/usb > I used the shabbymod themeflasher .9 which already has the kms built in.

worked like a charm here. I believe the trick is to not plug in the phone until drivers installed and rebooted.

Attaching the version I originally used to root my phone with that I know works, I used it again just recently after putting my phone back to stock when I thought I broke something because I kept getting Google Talk failed to authenticate notifications when I don't even use google talk.

the KMS file and the bat file show signs of changes from the one in the OP. I don't know which one is actually more recent
Thank you man :D

I Actually tried Over 9000 times before y find your post. with this one it worked at the first time. Thank you

Tank you guys for this rooting thingy

Sorry, I forgot to double check my links. I fixed the link now. It's from a post as CajunCanuck mentioned

Hey guys, this is my first post and I'm in a predicament.

Before I was aware of what rooting is, I had the misfortune of deciding to update my firmware last week.

As I was trying to root my Prevail using the One-click method, I kept getting the described error where it fails to mount and copy.

Does this have to do with me updating the firmware?
And if I use Odin to revert it to stock, will that enable me to root successfully?

I have reset my phone to factory settings, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

download shabbymod .9 and run that, it will root your phone and give you extra goodness. It seems the current oneclick root isnt working as well as the older one.

Is there anyone who would be willing to remotely access my Prevail and root my phone for me.
I know I am just not very technological but I need to have this done to my phone.

Please help!

after installing the usb drivers a few times and rebooting i still can't get them to work. when I plug in to my laptop it wont recognize the phone. I don't know why this would be such a problem for me, my computer is only a month old so i wouldn't think it would be a problem with my pc.

Please unlock phone, and press enter when done.
You need to enable usb debugging first

Press any key to continue . . .
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *

PHONE WILL REBOOT
PLEASE SAVE WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING NOW
PRESS ENTER WHEN READY
Press any key to continue . . .
HERE WE GO

phone never reboots

Wow!! So Im a first time Droid owner and i just read this entire thread (most dont make sense but I read it anyways) Its very confusing about what version works. the original 1 click was going around then people had problems with it so there was a updated version that fixed the bugs. But then people still had problems and they started saying that the new one was bad and the old one was better. Then its mentioned that if the one click dont work then use Odin (just great, one more thing to search and give me a piercing headach to comprehend) Damn my head hurts now. I am grasping the basics but im not ready, mostly because after reading all this im confused as to what to do by now lol. I think after all the reading im more confused than I was before i wanted to "learn" about it.

One question is I just got my phone a few days ago. It was mentioned that this should be done without ever updating the phone. I think it was the first day mine was on that some updates were on the top of my screen @ the notifications so I clicked on them and it said that they were succesfully updated or whatever. Is that going to be a problem??

Let me know when you all figure out the version of Root that you can just send me in a text and once I open it my phone automatically roots itself lol.

Also I havent rooted but i still want to thank all you guys, people like you with skill push the envelope and help out others. It also forces the manufactures to step up thier game after awhile because they refuse to offer what people want. then the smart ones come around, figure it out, pass the word, and make the big smart companies look not so smart. In turn they are forced to offer more bang for our buck to the little guys and when that happens the bell rings and you guys come out swinging for round 2. Its a game of cat and mouse that brings the level of technology up and up. Not to long ago we all had pagers.... look at these phones today, they blow your mind.

before I stop my rammbling on, I want to say that althow it "sounds" easy most of you guys dont realize how much you know. Even the noobs here are pretty smart with this stuff. You all should be proud!! I dont even know what computer i have., All I know is I bought it at best buy and it was a vista, after it got a virus a guy wiped it all out and made it windows 7 and got rid of the virus for a total of $40. I turn it on and search the Web and turn it off. All this "download this, up load that, open this, unzip that, its so easy, yada yada is forein to some people. You all are thinking you are not doing much at all, but you guys are damn smart!!!!

if you want to research team viewer its a remote control program, using it I could help do most of it, you would need to do anything that required hitting buttons on the phone.

you are correct its easy when you know how. Most of it is pretty common sense though picked up quickly Same thing I said for the last person, if you want to I can help you more directly through team viewer.

"Remote Rooting" the fun never ends with you guys lol....

It seems older computers dont work as well? I have NO time for this at home as I'm rarely there and cant spend much time at the house comp (12hr workdays). Can my older laptop from work do the job? Its got windows XP 95 or something like that. I would have to turn it on and double check. My work PC is slooooow and the web conection is slower than the laptop or my phone :(

make sure its compatible with team viewer, I know xp and newer is, but you would have to check if its windows 95.
as to slow internet yup thats a pain on remote controlled computer as it will take time for the command to get to you, then for the response to get back to me but its still workable.

Hello Everyone. I cannot seem get my Samsung Prevail rooted!!! :( I have followed all the steps that every one on all the forums are saying to do, as well as the "read me" file that comes in the .zip file in the KMS folder. I have tried this multiple times with no luck. Can someone please help me! I'm not sure what is going on. I am running Windows Vista (64-bit), could that be a problem? Are the drivers only 32-bit compatible? I'm not sure what else to do.
