I'M REALLY JUST TOTALLY LOST HERE!!!
Lets just say I can follow a-b-c-d-e-f...blablablah but I can't follow a-b-x-y-3-6-h-goback to step _____ (left it out).???????
Can the Samsung Galaxy Prevail by Boost Mobile ACTUALLY BE ROOTED???

I'm totally dumb when it comes to all this! I can follow simple instructions and steps, but when you make a video like the one that on youtube and then half way in say "oh ya download KMS.zip" and then don't have a link for it I'm lost!
Luckily I was smart enough to watch the whole video instead of just starting to do the root! Just to come find out there 7 WHOLE PAGES of JUNK do this, do that, do this, do blablaablah!
IS THERE AN ACTUAL WAY TO ROOT THE PREVAIL? I'M RUNNING WINDOWS 7 64BIT ON MY LAPTOP AND DON'T KNOW A DARN THING WHEN IT COMES TO THIS.
Could anyone give me a step by step guide and in (dummy) english with NO abbreviations! Just totally dumb it down for me because I don't have a clue?

Your help would be appriciated and I don't mind paying $20-30 for some help to get it done!

I have been trying to root for HOURS!!! And no matter what I do it won't work! I have gone through every post on here as well as every post on acsyndicate.net site. I have tried it ALL!!!
And nothing! I still get the error "not permitted" there at the end??? What is the deal? I'm runnin g64bit win 7 and nothing!
I've been here like a tweeker for 3hrs trying to catch the boost screen on startup....OK! I've downloaded reloaded 13x's nothing. I've tried tried and then tried again over 80times NOTHING!
IS there anything that works? I've gotten the msg KMS is empty....after over 10 reloads still same thing!
I've given up and I think you guys should pay me to figure it out for yourselves! You say you "cracked" it...then why does it not work, b/c I've done everything right and wrong! There is no STEP by STEP guide and the ones you "say" you provide aren't step by step!

WOW the instructions Shabby and the rest give here does work, I rooted last nite took 10 min.
 
really dude? cool off... i sure its just user error... i think at the time when you posted maybe you were just a lil tired and upset but maybe you should you make sure dont try to rush n e thing and also do EVERYTHING step BY step.... because if you dont and u miss ONE thing, then it will NOT work right. what are you tryin to do.. just root? what error code are you gettin? we all have done it and it really doesnt take long... i took a lil bit to do mine the first time and kept lookin at the steps just to make sure i was doing it right, but as of now i have done 4 phones and put shabby on them plus other things. we are all here to make this phone the best it can be and to help each other out, so if you wanna, just post what happens when your doing this and myself and im sure eveyone else here will try their best to help you. :)
 
im thinkin of switchin service to boost from virgin mobile. im useing an intercept. it also was pain in the a$$ to root. the instructions were very close to what these r and i couldnt get it to work. then some great person made an apk file. i downloaded it and it was truly a 1 click root. can this be done for the prevail? it wood solve all the problems peeps r having with rooting. also im stupid and wood need it too. if this is possible then i wood download it and b more than happy to donate for an apk.
 
Alright, I am not having results using 1 click root. I've done it at least 50 times, from the home screen and at all different times during a reboot. I just cannot seem to get this phone to root. The .bat file works well up to the point of reboot. When the phone reboots, failure starts just like the others have posted on here.

I have installed the Samsung USB drivers and then plugged phone into USB port on laptop. After driver installation was complete and successful is when I began attempting to run the PrevailtoExistence batch file. However, it fails everytime.

The phone is in USB debug mode. I've tried it with SD card installed, unmounted and removed, normal and airplane mode. No luck! Is there some reason this One Click Root won't work? Is the ODIN option something I should do? My phone version is EE14....if I go the Odin route, do I choose the EE14 version to D/L and run? If I do Odin procedure, will my phone be rooted when it's complete?

Please help! I'm willing to donate and happy to support those who have made this possible.

Yes if you get the odin EE14 rooted version, if you do ED13 and then get a over the air update you would lose the root.
Your much better off getting rooted EE14
 
the only tip I can think of is watch the video as your doing it and pause ALOT . thats what I did. had like 20 windows opened making sure I had the right links.
update: I used oneclickroot, for the first time, then used Odin to give me CWM, and used Odin again to go back to "full out of the box" factory reset. still deciding whick one I'm gonna use. I like Odin cause it can root and unroot a phone. gonna see what Shabby's slim 0.9 looks like.
still figuring out how to partition my SD so I can use Link2SD.
 
Last night, I ODIN's my phone back to EE14 stock and then tried the version of KMS in the first post (file came back as KMS-4.0.zip) and I couldn't get it to work. I tried with a version I DL'd a little over a week ago when I first got the phone and it had worked (Filename was just KMS.zip). I'm not sure if the ODIN stock image made it not work, or if something changed in KMS, but ShabbyMod 0.9 ran successfully and rooted my phone all in one step.

I then ODIN'd my phone to get CWM, Ran shabby mod again, then shabby media, and shabby kernel for a fully shabby'd up phone + my own boot animation and startup sound.

I'm a happy camper
 
Hey Inter, I had a few Q's. Im not sure if im using this forum right I cant see responses to anyone, what do u click to see them?

Was wondering if you had a prevail and how it was holding up after rooting?
Is it possible to unroot?
What exactly does the rooting on a prevail change?
Is the prevail capable of making a wifi hotspot once rooted?

I have had my prevail rooted since the first week of june and its held up very well, yes you can unroot, use odin and go back to stock.

with having root its like having admin privileges on windows computer.
with root you can download wifi tether and yes make the prevail a hotspot.
 
Ok, so I install the Samsung drivers to my computer, and THEN I plug my phone in to my computer via USB. At this point, the drivers finish installing for my phone. After this happens, should my phone show up on my 'Start Menu > Computer' screen along with my C: drive, DVD drive, etc?

I'm trying to figure out why my phone won't root. The PrevailtoExistence batch file does reboot my phone on command, but nothing else works properly. I am wondering if my phone is not being fully accessed by my computer.

Personally, I think there is something wrong with the version of one click in the OP. I have what I know is a working version on my work computer, I'll compare the two tomorrow when I get some time. I compared the version in OP to the bat for Shabbymod 0.9 and the only major difference I see is that the remount line has a -d flag on line 47. I confirmed for myself that the shabbymod bat works, maybe removing that -d flag will make OCR work again
 
Ok, I must not be to bright, usually this stuff comes naturally. But when I reboot the prevail, which logo is the correct when to start the bat file:

1. the first thing that pops up -
SAMSUNG
w w w dot samsung dot com

2. SAMSUNG
GALAXY Prevail

I would usually only ever see the SAMSUNG animation if there was a problem.
Sometimes, going into the boot menu/CWM and doing a factory reset fixes that. However, if you're like me, it sounds like you may need to run Odin to completely reflash your phone. I would suggest going to the Odin thread in this board and getting "EE14 ROOTED VERSION WITH CWM AND HROARKERNEL"

If your phone boots all the way and functions, then that's where you should start the bat.
typically from the unmount SD card menu, right after you took your SD card out :)
 
I did a little more investigation, running adb with --help gave this:
" -d - directs command to the only connected USB device
returns an error if more than one USB device is present."
so this may be the culprit. However, I also noticed that the file size was different for KillingMeSoftly in ShabbyMod 0.9.

I ran a compare on both in Notepad++ and the only difference appeared to be whitespace, but if it uses any relative addressing, that could be the problem as well.

I would suggest downloading ShabbyMod and copying the KillingMeSoftly from that zip to your KMS directory. I would also change the batch file line that reads:

adb.exe -d shell mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/stl12 /system

to

adb.exe shell mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/stl12 /system

and see if that doesn't solve your problem
 
Attaching the version I originally used to root my phone with that I know works, I used it again just recently after putting my phone back to stock when I thought I broke something because I kept getting Google Talk failed to authenticate notifications when I don't even use google talk.

the KMS file and the bat file show signs of changes from the one in the OP. I don't know which one is actually more recent

i've installed the usb drivers and it was working great at first, but now whenever i plug my phone in and turn on the usb storage it says that windows needs to install driver software and then it goes to search for the software and says that no driver software was found. what do i do now?

worked! finally i've been messing with this thing all day. this version worked like a charm though... i guess something weird is going on in the updated one.
 
Downloaded the very new one from the original post and still have the same error.. you sure it's working?

I'm getting a device not found.... What does that mean?
 
I am totally new at this stuff and super computer illiterate. Can some help me with rooting my galaxy prevail. I got lost with .bat files and stuff
