***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm rollin with a Droid Incredible running CM7.

But I'd like to get everyone's opinion on this (if it's too off topic feel free to move it to another thread), but am I the only one who is outraged by the fact that Verizon has upped their contract prices to $300? The full retail prices of phones have not gone up at all (still around $580) since I bought my Incredible for $200 on contract. It seems to me Verizon is trying to recover the costs of their 4G LTE upgrades by charging a "premium" price for 4G handsets. Well what if I don't live in a 4G area!? Even though I have an upgrade, I'm very tempted to buy my Prime outright just to stick it to em and make them worry about me switching carriers at any time. Am I way off base here? I just don't like that they're raising the prices just because they can. It's much easier to pay the full 580 vs 300, than it is to pay 580 vs 200.

OG Droid.

Did I miss something in the app list? I noticed Google Maps there, but not Navigation. Are they the same? I don't think so, and I really don't want to lost that functionality.

Hopefully I'll be able to download and install it. At least VZ Navigator doesn't appear to be on there.

I am with you on that, already planning on just buying the Nexus outright, my wife doesn't have or want a smartphone so I'll keep the unlimited plan contract I have now and just buy her some regular phone when she decides she wants something new. That will keep me in my unlimited plan though right? Even though its a switch from 3G to 4G?

Rolling with a OG Droid...

As far as I know, Verizon doesn't have separate data plans for 3G vs 4G, and I'm pretty sure they actually allow current unlimited users to upgrade and keep their unlimited status (at least for now), whether they're using 4G or 3G. So there's actually not much benefit in buying outright, unless you don't like being locked into one phone for two years. For me, buying the Prime outright would pretty much be a purely "stick it to the man" tactic.

DX rooted .605 build. No rom. My 32 gb card broke and I'm waiting for my new one in the mail. Until then? NO MODDING! :p

Got a call from vzw telling me was eligible for an upgrade and could get the bionic at $100 off. I laughed and said "got prime yet?!"

You could hear the blank stare on the other end...

in reference to the above post about the phone prices. It doesn't bother me. Better tech cost more money. That goes with anything not just cell phones.

I have to agree here. It sucks to think you're paying that much for a phone, but it's so much more than just a phone and they're improving quickly. I would also have to agree, however, that it does make me consider paying retail for it instead of signing another contract. I always did a one year, now have to step to two and pay the same price I was paying before? I don't know how I feel about that.

Right, 4G versus 3G isn't relevant to VZW pricing or eligibility for unlimited.

No point in paying $280 extra up front unless you expect to recover that down the line. Depends how long you intend to stay w/VZW, whether you can use someone else's upgrade on your family plan, whether you're comfortable selling an unneeded phone on eBay/CraigsList/Swappa.

Not sure if I can justify the better part of $300 to skip the contract but if I WERE to go that route, I'd wait a short time and pick up a barely used one. There's always people out there that buy a device and just don't care for it no matter how good it is. That's a scenario I've considered. 2 years is too long, I almost feel like the odds are higher that something WILL happen to a phone I carry everywhere, everyday rather than making it 2 yrs problem free. The elimination of 1 year contracts was the worst idea ever. I'd be willing to pay more for the device up front to stay in a 1 yr contract but retail price is just too rangy. Almost feel like there's no ideal solution anymore.

Since we are talking about data plans...is 4G an extra $30 a month? Or if I am already on unlimited data do I get access to 3G and 4G for that price when I upgrade to the Prime?

If you currently have unlimited data, you will be grandfathered in and keep it when you upgrade.

I'm using a Droid Eris with Condemned CM7.

So... who's gonna get thread post #2000 ?

(It matters to me a lot more than how many followers some weirdo on Twitter gets.)

I have to agree. I stated this in another thread. I don't understand the hesitation about contracts. They give you a discount up front, you pay the same amount for service, and the only thing they want is for you to pay for that term. You can always pay the ETF, and get out of contract right away. In that case, the discount price of the phone + ETF is almost equal to what you'd pay for out-of-contract phone price.

Besides, it is VERY easy to get out of a contract without paying the early termination fee. Just contest the latest contract modification they sent you. I got one this week. All I have to do is call them up and tell them I don't agree with the change and my service is cancelled. Done.
