So let's guess at the form factor. Thunderbolt, DX, slightly bigger? I prefer more narrow but taller design as opposed to the wider design.

BGR Vs. GSM Arena vs Lee Johnson Specs -- vetted against outside sources

Processor OMAP 4460 1.2gHz vs Exynos 1.5 gHz + Powervr Graphics
  • 4460 is 1.5 ghz per TI's spec sheet
  • Exynos 4412 is 1.5 gHz
  • GS2 LTE and HD have a 1.5 gHz processor.
  • Samsung makes the Cortex A9 based chips in apple's products that also use the powervr graphics
  • External sampling -- seems irrelevant as often Samsung keeps the best parts for itself (screens, chips, etc... until it has surplus)

Battery 1750 vs 1850 vs 2050
  • S2 LTE and HD use 1850...

Galaxy Nexus vs Nexus Prime
  • Celebrite says Nexus Prime

Radio LTE/HSPA Depending on carrier vs LTE + Dual CDMA/GSM
  • Samsung _has_ made cdma/gsm phones in the past...

Camera 5MP/1.3MP vs.8MP/2MP
  • Alledged dump includes "facelock.apk" --- I would expect that they would use a higher spec camera for that.
  • GS2HDLTE and GS2LTE have 8/2mp arrangement..as do all the recent Samsung announces

Hope that helps... The references to the GS2 LTE/HD are more of an idea of what samsung would find in its parts bin if they don't want to create something new. Another possibility is a qualcomm dual core as that has popped up in SGS2's as well..

It occured to me that Steven has a magic notification system set up that let's him know when his name is mentioned in this thread.

hahahahaha yeah it was a joke Steven.

Hey with the day it's been lets throw the kitchen sink in there......

It's all good. For me, this is one of the best times of enjoying a phone. Anticipation is enjoyable. It's much better than your phone getting long in the tooth like my DX.

Don't get me wrong. I'm enjoying my DX. I'm switching between rooted stock GB, Cyan7 and Miui. It's a lot of fun. I really like modding my phone.

Well I was out food shopping and getting dinner the last hour, so no surprise I missed another couple pages here!

I agree with xtop on all counts. It's wishful thinking to say that Samsung's own press release from only a week ago is some double-secret misinformation campaign. Face it, the 4212 is just now beginning to be sampled, and it's absurd to think it could be released in actual shipping phones anytime soon. It's a die shrink FFS! That takes a whole s***load of hardware debugging, it's far more than just a clock increase.

A few other points...

While it's true that it's easy to write C++ and Java code that's overwhelmingly platform neutral, supporting different SOC families isn't trivial. These chips may have different interrupt structures, different memory controllers, different mechanisms for supporting the virtual machine technologies that Dalvik depends on, and totally different onboard devices which each need their own debugged drivers.

So there is some amount of work and testing involved to shift an OS'es baseline architecture. OTOH, I don't actually believe that ICS is totally brand new from the ground up, so porting it to different chips can probably take advantage of all the work that's already been done to port previous versions of Android.

My guess is it's also not trivial to change CPUs partway through a particular phone's implementation. I don't know for sure, but since they have different memory interfaces I'd guess they also have different pinouts, so motherboards would have to be designed for each SOC.

On the 1.2GHz front: No chance that any manufacturer will release an overclocked CPU in a device for the general population. They definitely could use such overclocked chips in early development to shake out the design before the real higher-end chips become available, but they wouldn't go to customers.

Underclocked 4460 could make sense for a few reasons. It could be manufacturing problems attaining the targeted 1.5GHz, the same way that Nvidia's Fermi chips were designed with 512 stream processors but only introduced with 480 or 448 because they couldn't get them all working reliably at first ship. It could be an attempt to keep battery consumption down, especially if the first 4460's were drawing more power than could be budgeted (or vented as heat) in the design.

There's also another possibility -- It could be that the chips whose specs were leaked as 1.2GHz were actually full-blown 1.5GHz chips that were temporarily throttling themselves down at the particular time someone ran a sysinfo query to ask it how fast it was running. My Linux desktop right now says it's running at 1.2GHz, but that's only cuz I'm not doing much and it clocked itself down to run cooler.

As far as naming is concerned....based on the teaser taking two things combining them to make a better thing hence perfect combination.....I'm betting you take the best of Samsung (galaxy) +best of google (nexus/ics)...put them together........."Galaxy Nexus"........I'll take that for a thousand..

Regarding new Exynos in phone, I looked hard again for any sources confirming it in LTE SGSII, HD SGSII and found none. They only say 1.5Ghz dual core like this one. It's got link to one of Samsung's Korean sites and it says the same thing in google translation. But I saw several reports saying 1.5ghz S3 snapdragon in Celox (LTE SGSII) before.

Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S2 HD gets LTE goodness | Ubergizmo

I'm not ruling out Prime being the first phone getting new exynos, but chance of that seems slim to me.

If and when any of that comes to cell phones, it's gonna more epic than this thread that's for sure but a lot of things in the world would have to change in order for those things to work with any kind of decent battery life. Gonna be awesome though!

I think that I would stick with Swype lol but I am really hoping that Samsung and google are saving a huge feature for this device. Might be the facial recognition screen lock? That should have some "Wow" factor.

I haven't been this excited for a phone since the release of the OG Incredible (still using). I've been saving my upgrade for a worthy phone, and this is my primary choice right now so long as Verizon doesn't screw it up. (Droid RAZR is my backup, as it's an improved Bionic with a rumored non-PenTile screen).

While a longed winded post with a bunch of techno babble looks impressive it's still nothing more than opinion :)

Lets put it to bed and not make this into a "camera megapixel" argument and move on. Those get irritating and have worn thin. Sort of like this subject :)

The 11th is almost here. Lets wait and see

Another processor thought. Could it be that the purported delay of the OMAP 4460 for the Archos tabs was because Samsung was in competition for supply and gearing up to place them in several hundred thousand Primes?

Yeah.... So I've been following the Vigor lately and finally decided to come over and check the Prime Specs out.... I am now thoroughly conflicted... So many good choices. :D

If not on 4.0, I'm sure it'll be in the next overhaul update which would be a sweet feature to add later but would be even better if it had it on launch. I'm excited to see what comes of ICS and the features they're keeping quiet about. This is very exciting and I can't wait to see what comes of it all.:D
