Hmm... maybe jcase should take a look at history. Lots of "credible" sources can be dead wrong. ;)

Not hating... just a reality check. This is a rumor mill and these things will ALWAYS be that way. I "trust" very few people because even good info can change quickly.

People that have no clue are only making educated guesses which still means nothing. Lee or GSM Arena are the specs to expect. Pick a side and wait I say. All this other stuff is just noise....

You hit the nail on the head. Like I said in my post above all this stuff is just noise. Ignore it.

No offense to the usual suspects who leak things via twitter but I don't put much stock in their info. They are wrong more than they are right......

I think it's way too soon for anyone who knows what they're talking about to make that claim.

normally i'd agree with you, but we pretty much know the general performance of everything out there if you know where to look. and the 543mp2 is freaking awesome. why nobody else has really decided to use it is beyond me

I traced all of the Ice Cream Sandwich/Texas Instruments rumors back to one original story. This one:

Read that story, and then tell me that there is some solid credible evidence that the TI OMAP is DEFINITELY going to be in the Nexus. Is there a chance it will? Of course. Is there a chance the new Exynos will be in it? Of course. Everything is rumor. There is no solid evidence of ANYTHING, and like said above, until we see the device in someone's hand and it is tore apart and we can see which processor it has in it, everything is still rumor...Or until Samsung itself confirms the processor, which they or Google might do in the next week or at launch.

Also, the rumor about the new Exynos being in the new Nexus is no more "nonsense" than the rumor that the new OMAP will be in it. They are both a rumor, and there is ZERO solid evidence backing either claim. Saying otherwise is false and can be backed by nothing, other than the editorial tech blog articles that have spread the rumor and the twitter accounts by supposed insiders, which a lot of those have leaned towards the Exynos lately. Still, all are rumors. Geez... haha

Edit: Also, read this article that was posted yesterday. The whole rumor about Texas Instruments and Ice Cream Sandwich started from a picture, that was apparently not confirming an agreement between Google and TI, after all. Read the article. It was all a rumor and will remain a rumor until we get something more solid, like a Nexus in our hand with a TI processor.

Been there, own it, hate it. The whole eye-candy appeal in a sleek new smartphone is just that - it's sleek!

So, I'll just wait and see... and if the Prime turns out to be the next "Oh-my-god-I-can't-live-without-this-thing" phone, then it'll be mine! Just as long as the battery in it is up to my demands. If not - I'll simply remain on the sidelines until the next big thing emerges from the shadows and has the battery to back it up. (Any input from anyone regarding this phone's battery capabilities (as it emerges, of course) would be greatly appreciated!)

and the GPU-performance is one of the few points android devices are weaker than iPhone/iPod touch... seriously i would never ever buy an iPhone 5, but i've had a iPod Touch (2nd Gen only) and i could play 3d games like Modern Combat and i honestly loved it...

many of my friends have got an iphone 4, some have some android device (some of them even got some highend devices like the sgs2) and when i compare those, i have to admit that when i compare for example Modern Combat 2 or Asphalt 5/6, the game looks way better on the iPhone 4, although the CPU of the other devices is a lot better...

and thats easy to show...

iPhone 4s now has got the PowerVr SGX543MP2, while other actual 'high end' android devices come with only a PowerVr SGX540...

compare them:

PowerVr SGX543 > PowerVr SGX540
and the A5 has got two of those SGX543-cores inside...

i like playing 3d games on my smartphone, and i hate having 2 seperate devices, one for phonecalls and sms, and an ipod touch (or sth) for gaming...


and i really wish that sometimes android devices will have the same GPU-perfomance the iPhone offers.. and thats why im hoping the nexus prime to have the GSMArena-specs... also those new devices are having a 720p screen with about 2x more pixels, so they have to get better GPUs!

ps: yeah i hate apple, but their ipod touchs are pretty nice, though their screens are way to small

-The PowerVR SGX540 (OMAP), Adreno 220 (Snapdragon), and Mali 400 (Exynos) are all outstanding GPUs with their own pros and cons. Each will be more than sufficient for any user, and even high-end gamers would be lucky to get either of them.

So, in conclusion, all of the rumored chips for this device are outstanding and will make even the most cynical member of this board happy. NOTE: I don't see any way for them to use Snapdragon, but it was mentioned so I addressed it in the comparison.

EDIT: By the time developers make enough use of the difference between SMP and ASMP, we'll all be on our next phone after the Prime, so the differences between Snapdragon and A9 today aren't THAT big of a deal.

Agreed, the 543mp2 is awesome - but does it clock at 200 MHz in all cases? Will the iP4S run at the A5's full 1 GHz, or will it go down to the usual sub-GHz rate and hit the 543mp2 clock accordingly? (And even if it does, the GFLOPS rate on it will still be amazing.)

Will an Android come out with the 4470 (or better) within that "better part of a year" with its 544mp2 at 300 MHz? Will the iPhone 5 (not 4s) feature a higher target?

Does the A5 use separate full-frame update processor and leave the 543mp2 for just the 3D heavy lifting?

I care about results - Infinity Blade is incredible on the iPad2, from what little I've seen.

Again - no disrespect to you nor arguing that the 543mp2 isn't quite a feat.

I'm just skeptical about raw processor claims vs. a full-platform comparison, it's in my nature. ;)

Omap 4470 only has got a single-core PowerVr SGX544...

the SGX544MP2 will be in the OMAP 5 series, but when OMAP5 is avaiable in devices, the apple A6 will already be avaiable with an even better GPU :/

I had never heard of RCR Wireless Unplugged, either. Which is where the TI/Ice Cream Sandwich marriage rumor originated.

Also, if where there's smoke there's fire, then I see some smoke at this link:

(Note) If there is fire everywhere there is smoke, in the tech world, then every rumor would have credibility behind it and would wind up having truth to it. We know that's not the case, so that old saying really doesn't work well when used regarding the tech industry.

yup. omap5 looks to be android's best chance of catching up. it will be interesting to see what apple uses in the a6. probably just a 543/544mp4, right?

i see it differently than you i suppose. 4460 has been the rumor since june. many times from many "sources". exynos rumor has one source..from a few days ago.
