***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Did Google trademark the word "Nexus" or something? Nexus isn't really a trademark or "created" word... not sure how they could copyright it... not like "Droid", which IS a trademarked word from Lucasfilm.

Uh, use is automatically trademarked, and it doesn't have to be an invented or created word to be trademarked. Look up trademark law.

Also, it doesn't even matter if it's trademarked. Samsung is a partner of Google. They aren't going to destroy that just so they can use the Nexus brand on their phone, and Google isn't going to allow a partner to use that brand without permission.

There's no source. It's pure speculation. It's just more FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) and I don't think all of the alarmist speculation here is very pleasant. I may check out of the thread for a while - the unfounded comments that serve only to panic some of the newer users are not needed, and frustrate me since they have no basis in reality yet some people will take them seriously.

Han, battery life on the Bionic isn't too bad, and it's something like a 1750mA battery I believe. Have been having some issues lately (but I think it's mostly due to the ROM I'm on). I have great LTE coverage in DC so I'm rarely on 3G. With the Prime being just a little larger, I can't believe it would be so bad. Although, the Droid had fantastic battery life. Oh well.

Yeah, I've been hearing it's not the worst battery. But remember, that's running on a quarter HD screen, and the Prime will be moving a lot more pixels on a full HD. I'm hoping that, at worst, we get what you're getting on the Bionic.

I'm with you on this. I'm hoping the sarcasm means completely the opposite:

Good Battery Life (can't say great!)
The screen and phone size are awesome!

Okay so I wanna know who agrees and who disagrees and why with my take on this. I think maybe the entire thing is sarcastic and the last part is what hints of that. I think that maybe he's doing his usual riddling a little differently by saying he's gonna spoil it, being negative about it, then adding in the jokes at the end to hint to everyone that he was being sarcastic. So in that I get that it will be an amazing phone that everyone will love.

I also find this believable based on this:

I believe this to be very true, companies always need to know what their competitor is up to and to me it worked out both ways. Samsung finds out Apple has a sub par upgrade coming and starts preparing for the biggest push to overcome the Iphone yet and Apple finds out and throws a fit going patent happy and trying to ban Samsung from the US to keep the beast of a phone from releasing just in time to dominate Apple just after a disappointing release.

As I said before I'd like to hear who agrees/disagrees and why. =D

well, i updated my avatar... now i'm part of the great star wars empire, too :D

Revan ftw ^.^

Sweet! Looks very manly and German-efficient! :p

Binary, given the TITLE of this thread, anyone who comes in here will automatically know it's going to be mostly speculation and rumor. Even what's coming from Steven's source, who's been verified, is pure speculation because things are so subject to change. I don't think people here are panicking.

But go ahead and take a break if you need it. I know I do from time to time. People here rib me about jumping off ledges.

We'll be here when you come back aboard the crazy train! I hope you can enjoy the ride. Because once it's over, then things get a lot more real and bland. :p

Wasnt really joking about the battery... Just being honest with that amount of power you ain't getting bb all day batt life.. #truth

Damn, I want a phone with killer battery life...:(

Yeah, we are all hoping for better battery life. As a ThunderBolt owner, I do frequent the TB forums and If I have to hear one more person complain about battery life I am going to shoot myself in the face with a shotgun!

Amazing how my battery last for much longer when rooted and running CM7. I repeat...skins may be pretty but they suck...and that includes sucking battery from your phone...so I'm saying be glad this isn't skinned and bloated!

But I think you all missed the part of BMX's tweet that I highlighted. He's not typically one to praise things that don't deserve praise. Doesn't sound like a slow device to me...That leads me to think it's not OMAP but if optimized well, a single core cpu & gpu could run very well.

Lordy have I opened up a keg of worms here.... GrandmaDroid, BAIL ME OUT!

I am not a trademark lawyer. I was simply positing an opinion on the word Nexus, though I DO understand Han's position that Google would never work with Samsung on a separate phone named "Nexus". I'm just concerned that a "Galaxy" series phone (even if called Nexus) may be bloated and have updates come from Samsung... which is historically miserable about updating their phones.

If the Galaxy-Nexus-Prime comes out as a pure Google Experience phone with updates straight from Google, we'll all be happy campers. But with little else to talk about this morning, I thought I might express a concerned opinion... didn't mean to start a semantics battle here :)

Looks like a giant razor is about to shave his face off.

Nice lol, never noticed that before... yeahout of this specific perspective his mask looks strange :D

Sweet! Looks very manly and German-efficient! :p

but maybe that's because Revan's so 'manly' that he has to shave his beard all day long?

who knows :D

edit: exynos 4212 ftw, hope it's gonna be in the nexus prime.. bla bla... -> 71% processor comments :D

edit2: so darth nihilus now, hope theres no razor in his face?

Don't worry about it, Chief. I don't think you're ruffling too many feathers. Your opinions are always well-thought out and make people think, but we don't lose sight of that fact that they're simply opinions like everyone else's. So don't feel bad.

I just think you're as wrong as stepping in a puddle of puke, falling down, and then getting peed on by a passing dog.

But that's just my opinion, too! :p

It's not the speculation that bothers me - that's what this thread is for.

edit: Deleted a majority of this post. I think I was singling out that post too much and didn't mean to - discussing the speculation is great, I just don't think people should be making patently absurd claims that lead to disappointing conclusions without any kind of rationale. It's not just that one post - my problem with that one post was it was phrased as fact, not as a question.

not picking on Chief at all, but just to clear up any confusion, trademarks are very different from copyrights; trademarks are used to avoid consumer confusion as to the source of a product. Copyrights are used to protect authors rights in creative works.

There is no registration required for trademark rights to be enforceable (same w/ copyrights actually). Registration merely gives the party asserting the trademark certain beneficial presumptions in court (as well as a couple of other things). Basically if you use a mark in commerce and the public associates that mark with a good, then within that zone of commerce (perhaps geographic) you could legally contest others using the mark in the same type of business.

Now some marks are "stronger" than others... I couldn't use the mark "Tires" in the tire business as it is merely descriptive.

Anyway enough legal ranting ... honestly I'm getting really impatient with this phone and might need to take a break. :)

edit: only speaking about US law of course

Just a question to the mods:

If this does end up being called the Galaxy Nexus and NOT the Nexus Prime (for Verizon), could the name of this forum be changed to reflect that, since I think it's about 98% Verizon users on here?

Or would we be kicked out to a renamed "Samsung Droid Prime" Forum?

If the Galaxy-Nexus-Prime comes out as a pure Google Experience phone with updates straight from Google, we'll all be happy campers.

I think they would crazy to launch the first ICS phone that would require updates from Samsung or VZW. Its not going to be perfect out of the gate.(How could it be?) Its going to need to be updated quickly.

I think Nexus in any form would be straight Google. /happy

It's not the speculation that bothers me - that's what this thread is for.

What irks me is people making giant leaps to illogical conclusions with NO REASON. As in, "if Nexus is the second word in the name, it won't be a Google phone. If it's the first word, it will."

Seriously? This is just ridiculous. There is zero reason to believe that one word of that is true, there have been no indications of it from any sources, it doesn't make sense from a business or practical standpoint, and yet here it is, posted as if it's got some tiny speck of a basis in reality. I don't mean to single that post out, it's just a recent example - discussing the speculation is great, I just don't think people should be making patently absurd claims that lead to disappointing conclusions without any kind of rationale.

Fair enough, Binary. I see your point, and I respect it. We need posts like yours to balance the thread out. And we also need posts like Chief's to make it a little crazier.

I look at Chief's opinion like I do the ones who believe there will be an Exynos 4212 in the Prime. Both seem like there might be some logical thinking in there, but both are wildly speculative and have no basis in fact. (Sorry guys, but I've decided that "sampling" doesn't mean "used in mass production", painful as that may be.)

I think that the general rule here is that if it's logical and probable, Steven will put it on the OP. If it's crazy, speculative, and/or idiotic (but not insulting or rude or off-topic), it stays in the rest of the zoo. :p

So, if it's not on the OP, it's utter BS. That's how I look at it anyway.

Wow, shitty start to the day:
1. Rear ended someone (other car has no damage, my front end is busted).
2. Missed an important meeting (see 1).
3. Almost got a summons for not having my original insurance card (yay for car cleaning).

Hopefully, some solid Prime news gets released today :(

Sorry to hear -- I got into one two weeks ago and I hit a friends car -- it sucks.

Here's to hoping your day is made better by some Prime rumors/news!

No, but now it looks like someone hit you in the face so hard you started bleeding from your eyes.

WTH, r4yN? How about this one?

I hope you're as wrong as an adorable 6 year old girl accidentally snapping her puppy's neck, Chief.

I just think you're as wrong as stepping in a puddle of puke, falling down, and then getting peed on by a passing dog.

HanSolo...you gotta stop this. I can't read these kind of tidbits at work and start laughing out loud! It just looks bad. :D

If the Nexus Prime is not called the Nexus Prime...we will NOT change the name of the forum because Galaxy Nexus is stupid and Droid Prime is not likely.

I kid...we will name the forum after the official name of the phone...even if they do screw up the name :D

Edit: If there are multiple versions of this phone (GSM & CDMA) then there will be some indicator of which forum is which even if Nexus Prime is used as the one and only name.

Ah, that sucks man. Was with the wife a couple of weeks ago and this teenager in a huge Daddy's-SUV was coming up behind us, not looking straight ahead but leaning out his window flipping someone off and yelling at them, and bam, he rear-ends us. Thankfully it was a low speed deal coming out of a parking lot. But such a hassle!

so here is my opinion:

1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus (SCH-i515):

-another version of the nexus prime, exclusively for verizon
- will be released on november 3rd
- CDMA
- OMAP 4460 (incl PowerVr SGX540 @~380MHz)
- 1GB Ram
- 4,65" curved HD SuperAMOLED Screen
- 5MP Camera
- Very thin & light
- 32GB internal storage, NO microSD-Card-Slot
- no touchwiz / verizon bloatware, as it has got the 'nexus' in it's name
- 1750mA/h battery
- 4g LTE & NFC

2. [Samsung] Google Nexus Prime (I9250 | US-Version)

-will be announced soon, and released ~ 2-4 weeks after the galaxy nexus
- GSM
- exynos 1.5GHz dual-core soc (probably the exynos 4212)
- 1GB Ram
- 4,65" curved HD SuperAMOLED Screen
- 8MP Camera with an enhanced sensor & lens
- Very thin (maybe not as thin as the galaxy nexus) & light
- no touchwiz, pure vanilla
- HSPA+ only
- NFC
- ~2000mA/h battery

2.5 [Samsung] Google Nexus Prime (I9250 | EU-Version)

- same as the US-I9250, but with 4G LTE support and maybe an earlier release

that's what i think of all these rumours.. i know you guys don't like it, but face it... verizon always got the 'crappy' (compared to the other ones [but not so bad at all]) ones...

well maybe i'm wrong, but i'd like the EU-Version to come with these specs :D

The Droid-Life article on the Hong Kong possibility has been updated to say:

We are hearing that the event will happen at 9AM on the 19th in Hong Kong which would be 6PM Pacific on the 18th in the U.S. The sad thing here is that this could mean that there won’t be a U.S. event anymore. And on such short notice, it would be awfully tough for stateside media to book a last minute international flight like that. Then again, they planned to stream today’s Unpacked event on Youtube, so they will likely do the same for this one. No matter what, you have to imagine that Google will do whatever they can to make this available to all.
And of course, this also happens to be the day that Motorola and Verizon plan to show off the new DROID RAZR. Got to love this business.
