***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not open for further replies.
No device, introduced in conjunction with Google, that is titled Nexus will have TouchWiz on it.

Will this ever be put to rest? I simply cannot believe that this question is still being asked.

Steady. Easy does it. :) ;)

Let's keep our shirts on, plenty of questions are going to get repeated.

It's not the asker's fault, it's just as much as all of ours for being human and having noise in the thread - and people don't know until they see the answer.

All we can do is be welcoming and do our best to help people as join the thread.

PS to Steven - Normally I'd just pitch in and go for it, but I'm swamped - when you get a chance, respectfully request consider adding "no TouchWiz" or the like for now to the OP.

I've never exceeded a gig either, but that's only because 3G's so friggin' SLOW that I'm on wifi most of the time. Once I get hold of 4G, I'm gonna be streaming everything everywhere.

That's true. Everyone with 4G LTE will be using much more data than they did with 3G before. But I still don't think I will consume anywhere close to 1Gb a day.

BTW, didn't you say you are living in the middle of nowhere when talking about microSD slot? So do you have LTE in your area?

Thank you Zach. Yes, a widget just sitting there on a screen consumes virtually zero resources of any kind (besides RAM and a little memory space) unless it's actively updating the screen, uploading or downloading something, or performing calculations. A properly written widget or app should only be doing those things when it serves some purpose.

Right, there is no point in having widgets unless there is a place to put the information that is being queried at intervals. Twitter, sports scores, etc. etc. It's not the widget consuming the bulk of CPU cycles. It's the queries. And if you are in a bad signal area, it can add up to alot of CPU cycles if done on a frequent basis.

No, you misunderstood: I live in an LTE area but I have in-laws who live in the middle of nowhere. And when I HAVE to visit them (gotta keep the Darling Bride happy ;) ) I need that SD card because the only cloud is the one hanging over my head the whole time I'm there.

There will always be a better, faster, crisper device around the corner. As soon as we snatch this up, SGS 3 will be rumored and spec'd.

However, and this is a BIG however, I don't know when I will get another chance for a pure, vanilla, Google-updated phone on Verizon. It may never come again.

I'm snatching this up faster than a I'd grab a baby falling out of a window![/QUOTE]

I agree with you(and evolution too)

UBRocked - Well - no question that the iP4s launch event was the worst ever (despite great sales, we saw that coming).

Just chiming in that until we get Google/Samsung actual launch of ICS and the Nexus, kind of soon to be sure that it's such a letdown.

And, no, I'm not taking bets, not even in quatloos! ;) :)

Haha! Of course I'll hold final judgement for the actual announcement. I think what has me down is that when the rumor of the 4460 was "cemented" by our source, and micro sd didn't look like a viable option...people started excusing it.

Yes, with the latest rumored specs, it will be a great phone...that will be beaten (marginally) in a couple of months. That's my issue.

I don't blame them. But when was the last time we were "wow'ed"? I wanna be wow'ed! You think of these people that get to work for these companies and decide to skimp instead of innovate...it's disheartening.

But I'm out! Son turned 7 today and I'm going to see my boy...He's an Android nut already so he'll share in my frustrations over some birthday cake! :D

Sorry, EarlyMon. I realized after the fact that it may have come across as sort of douchey. But, nevertheless, at 7000+ posts, and the fact that the two prior Nexus phones were vanlla android phones, the question should not be asked.

Nexus is to Google as iPhone is to Apple.

Source: Galaxy Nexus (Nexus Prime) Will Have 1.5GHz Dual-Core TI OMAP 4460

i'm sure that is already posted three pages back even though i just saw it on phandroid's twitter....but i'm posting it anyways. lol

when will the speculation end.....the sooner the better. This is getting old and isn't that much fun anymore....

Really???? COOOL! :p ;)

7000!!!!

Thank you.....Thank you....Thank you....

I'd just like to thank my work for not interrupting me during a very important moment in my life. Second, I would like to thank my 3gs for sucking enough to prompt me being in this forum waiting desperately for the NP.

....but most importantly, I would like to thank all of those that stumbled on the reply button so that I may snipe the 7000 post honor.

Dang post hore! Jk,... congrats!

Edit: Jiminy Cricket, I pulled a reverse Steven this time. Sorry guys.

:p

How does it feel to be the class clown, huh? :p

VZW's current fastest phone (Droid Bionic) has only been out for five weeks now, and Prime will be a full 50% faster.

Not fast enough?

Yeah, baby.. Just... yeah.

Absolutely!

Edit: Done... we aim to please.. Service is our business.

The reason all of us are so excited for the Nexus Prime is because were on Verizon, and as everyone already knows Verizon always gets the crappy end of the deal. We haven't gotten an actual great phone this year that would make us say "you know what, I actually WANT that phone". Most of us just put up with whatever Verizon gives us. Would we jump ship? Not likely since we are still getting the unlimited data (some of us) and we get amazing 4g. The prime is the first chance well get in a long time where we actually get a competetive, top end phone. Now add that to vanillas pure experience and boom! You have a keeper right there. I'm happy with the specs so far and only hope Samsung doesnt kill it with crappy build quality. The battery life seems really good actually.

For everyone else not on Verizon you may be expecting more, and that's fine. But we Verizon customers will be happy knowing that at least this time we weren't thrown under the bus. Everyone else who gets the better phone selection that Verizon may not get, be happy. And for those of you who this applies to its more than likely you guys will get a better spec'd phone in the future, be it the GsIII or whatever. But for those of us limited to Verizon this is like a dream come true.

Also another device will always be just around the corner, but it just so happens that corner is a LOT longer for Verizon than all the other carriers

yup, and i'm already looking forward to a phone with the ST-Ericsson Nova A9600!! but that's probably closer to 2013 :(

But for those of us limited to Verizon this is like a dream come true.

You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be at the Verizon corporate store 20 minutes before they open on Launch Day. I think we just over-hyped it here and anything that they realistically hand us will be a let-down for somebody. But yeah, Namrak, I think we Verizon folks will be VERY happy!

...the question is, why didn't you join us sooner, we love to help and we were all new to this once. :) ;)

ftfy :) ;)

And hey - nothing wrong with a question getting on your nerves. Just skip past it, someone will cover it and next time you'll cover one they'll skip.

We're all here on the same side, Team Android Happy Kitty Bootie Shakin' Git Mah Phone Muchachas Muchachos, right?

..
i'd be totally happy if the NP (GSM-Version) comes with the Omap 4470 and not the exynos 4212, but 4460 is not good enough for what i want...

How could you possibly know this? I am not trying to be contrary, I would just like to know.

Have you used the the 4460 on a phone? Has anyone? Has anyone used ICS with its new hardware acceleration yet? It seems silly to state with confidence anything about the performance of a CPU that no one has used yet. I know the GPU is of particular concern to you, but until you actually USE it, I don't see any point in guessing how good it is or how long it will remain relevant...

I am curious to see what Paul Johnston has to say when this finally drops with the OMAP. Won't there be some people who will owe BGR some apologies? There has been quite a bit of nasty things said about him and his specs, but they seem to be the closest to coming to fruition....

Excellent points. I use the NewsRob news reader, which is smart about its queries. You can set the synch time interval, can specify how much data it should fetch for articles (brief text summary, a full web page, images), and it has one clever optimization: If it has trouble reaching a news server, it times out and skips any other articles from that same server until the next synchronization. Naive newsreaders can be huge battery hogs, but NewsRob isn't bad at all on my OG Droid.

*I just wish the author would check back in and release some updates.

being partly right once doesn't make up for the other 50 times when they were completely wrong. but that's just me

. . . .Won't there be some people who will owe BGR some apologies? ...

Not at all. If BGR goes ahead and apologizes for continuing to use extremely dubious sources - cough, Ticonderoga Securities, cough - and apologizes for telling the world that the iPhone 5 was releasing as an exclusive for Sprint, then I'll apologize for not believing a single thing they say until other sites back it up.

Being right 3 out of 10 times might be good enough for weather forecasters, but not for a tech site like BGR, Bad Guess Report.

I just figured I would pre-order it, save the hassel of going to the store and waiting in line. :D

The only problem with your issue is it will probably always be an issue. Not just for you, but many following this thread. There will ALWAYS be the next best thing a couple months down the road and when you're ready to buy that, the next best thing will be rumored. It never ends and it's the nature of ever evolving technology.

From a pure business perspective, if Samsung wowed you with all the specs your looking for, there would be little motivation for you to buy their next device. Sadly, we are strung along for the ride. As long as enough people keep buying, the strategy will remain the same.

Btw, happy birthday to your little boy!

I for one will most likely get this phone (currently with the incredible) so pretty much anything is a huge upgrade. There is still plenty that we don't know about this phone............. look and feel, weight, what it's made out of, how the curved glass will look and feel in the pocket, what the hell are those three buttons on the side.......get my point?
Still very much interested in this phone!

I doubt the three "buttons" on the side will be used for anything more than contact charging. But who knows
