***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

My bad, you're right. But I was under the impression that Steven's source had used the Nexus clocked in at 1.5gHz without hiccups.

I don't doubt that. If a part hasn't been released, it doesn't mean that every test sample will fail, it could just be that some small percentage will fail and the manufacturer can't afford to take the chance and end up with a massive recall when some users complain.

My guess is that IF it does come underclocked at 1.2gHz, it'd be more for battery concerns than stability issues, no?

Excellent question! It could be either or both. Apple underclocks the A5 in the iPhone 4S and I think most people assume it's because of battery.

Just to backtrack, I'm not sure what's really happening w/the 4460 in the Prime, just trying to guess what it could be. I'm still hoping that whatever problems they had will be resolved by ship time.

Hey, sorry I was snappy in my previous post WalSec. Tired, cranky about the zombie 1.2GHz rumor that will not die. :(

EDIT: nj02vette confirms the real thing shipping at 1.5GHz so if anybody's underclocking them it's for battery only. And at this point I'm convinced Prime really is 1.5GHz.

I agree in theory......but Ti does sell the OMAP 4460 as a 1.5GHz device. Go download the datasheet for yourself. No mention at all about 1.2GHz.

For giggles, my EE coworker/friend who is also interested in the Prime called up Ti to inquire about purchasing the OMAP 4460. Got spooked by some of the delay reports. We got quoted lot prices and delivery dates. There were no issues.

Trust me, there is no problem running this chip at 1.5GHz. If there was, thier datasheets would have been updated by now. Chip has been available for months now.

If TI does sell 4460 as a 1.5GHz part, and the parts are shipping in whatever quantity the Prime needs, then yayyyyyy!

Thanks Vette, you made my night! :)

Okay here's a post for the sake of posting:

Any audiophiles/head-fi'ers here? In the time it took me to catch up in this thread from page 40, I think my Vsonic GR07s have finally burned in.

Anyone with headphones of any sort should listen to this, but it's especially awesome if you have a nice pair of buds/cans

Anyway, to keep this on topic, I hope there's an enhanced equalizer function in ICS. One of the things I love about CM7 is DSPS Manager, which has a custom EQ

Clock speed is a moot point between 1.2 and 1.5 IMO. And I'll give my new Nexus to a homeless person if it won't clock up to 1.5 with a 4460 onboard.

I agree my INC would go to 1.1ghz. I would think manufactures would want to set the bar high and let people catch them. As others catch up, set the bar higher again.

Cmon people where's the NP chatter?? Working on an assignment and yalls posts are the only thing keeping me going. Turn it up a notch in here!

Edit: guess ill just start googling nexus prime -_-

Looks like the a.m. activity is cooling. Not surprising because we need a bone. Something to keep us going, new rumors to hash out, a freakin' date to look forward to, anything at all. Bueller? Bueller?

If the Hong Kong announcement rumors on Tuesday are true, I would be Extremely surprised if samsung didn't send out invites sometime today

I hope you're right, it's time for a date.

On a side note, I can't wait for root on this thing. Odd to say but I almost hope they don't get root pre-release like they have on a few phones. That's actually my favorite time even moreso than the rumor thread. I remember being in the Incredible IRC when root was found. We all had a couple SD cards, one primary one spare. Standing on one leg while pushing the card(s) in/out trying to time the exact moment the splash screen had a visual glitch. All while saying 5 hail Mary's. Adb open pushing commands none of us knew. Dammit that was good times. :D

This may have been brought up before, but perhaps what Google is going for in this release is NOT a orgy of hardware goodness.

Big ol high def screen, curved glass (not totally new..), super thin... Yes, sure, other phones may have hardcore CPUs pushing tons of 1s and 0s but this phone will be a great experience all around.

Don't we sound greedy asking for the fastest phone, thinnest phone, highest definition phone, with 4g LTE, and long battery life? I mean....that is ridiculous!

With all due respect, as a paying customer I can't be "greedy" if I am willing to pay for what I'm looking for.

On the real... Vzw device is nice.. But the real beast is coming on att.. Expect greatness in the 1st qrt of 2012..
If this was already posted I apologize. Seems verizon is getting another watered down phone.

The GPU being overclocked so much seems like it would add a good amount of performance gains.

Example of what I was talking about. Make a tweak to an older cpu and gpu and call it new tech. Just put the older chip in there, charge us less and we'll overclock it ourselves.

Again, this will be a nice phone and I don't doubt that. People, if you are scared off because of a certain processor model number...you shouldn't be. I'm sure it will run well and ICS is exciting. It's just that no one seems to be putting their best foot forward IMO.

But personally, I don't like reading posts that tell people to stop wanting more or to accept it. This isn't a handout or government check. Imagine if I told you to accept a car with a 4 star crash rating instead of a 5 star rating and that you should have no reservations about putting your family in the car. Oh, you wouldn't like that would you? ;)

Just sayin. I'll still be evaluating this phone and will probably end up owning it because of the lack of competition with Verizon's limited selection quality options. The NP will be the best phone on Verizon for the better part of 3-6 months or maybe even longer. Hopefully the performance and storage options will be sufficient.

OK, I'm sticking with 1.5Ghz until Samsung reveals real spec and says otherwise. I refuse to trust anything else.

Im right there with you :) no wishful thinking or positive attitude. I just choose to lean towards these specs out of my own personal beliefs about Samsung and how they do things.

Ill either be right or ill be wrong but in the end I will still have my health and still be alive. Its only a phone......

I agree with this. I REFUSE to settle for anything. If im going to be locked into a 2 year contract you better believe i will not be settling. Matter of fact im 14 months out of contract because I didnt want to settle.

I have no problem waiting until next year if i dont like anything. My days of being sucked into the hype and wanting something new just for the sake of having something new are long gone. I stalk the best hardware and pounce on only the meatiest of prey. Ill let the youngins eat the gazelle I'll wait for the 1 ton Water Buffalo :)

Just a phone? Just a phone????? TAKE IT BACKKK!!

just kidding I agree it is just a phone but I can just imagine some peoples reactions...

I feel like no device is going to be "future proof" though. According to
Comparison of Android devices - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

the devices released in Oct/Nov 09 (2 years from today) were the OG Droid, Samsung Moment, etc. A bunch of other phones released in 09 were rockin' 1.5 and 1.6 too.

I bought the DX thinking I'd locked myself into a 2-yr contract, and a year later it seems VZW has given me an "early upgrade" option (all the newer phones < $200). Not sure if they've changed their policies, etc, but I'm willing to bet that when the next generation of phones comes out, VZW/other carriers will offer an "early upgrade" option, much like AT&T did for the iPhone 4.

I think if something DOES come out that's THAT awesome, none of us geeks would mind shelling out $600. I'm also fairly confident that the Nexus Prime will still carry a street price of $200-300 within the next year :)

Thanks, I appreciate knowing I'm not alone :)

I have no strong ties to this phone other than that it is a contender to be my next device. But I love Android and I see so many things that keep it from reaching it's full potential. I haven't heard one person say "thank God this might not have SD card support!" but if it happens, many people will say they don't need it. I can live just fine on 32GB on-board storage as well but having the options like SD expansion are reasons many of us got on board with Android in the first place. I don't care if Andy boy doesn't like SD cards (if that's even true), I LIKE THEM.

BTW, if anyone is interested...syndicate apps released a new version of their ICS launcher. But beware...this is buggier and feels more incomplete than the previous versions.

If that leaked video/pic of the NP with ICS running on it was of the final version we would expect to see an led indicator on it right? I zoomed and and tried to see if I could see it...I saw the front cam on top right but no led indicator...could anyone spot it? Or maybe its not the final version which I expect since the body doesn't match the official leaked side profile shot either

How could you expect to see the LED indicator if he doesn't have a notification up? I know the LED notification area is invisible on my OG Droid, unless it's lit up of course.

I don't see anybody saying you should settle for anything. I see some people saying they want some particular technical feature (4212, quad-core, whatever), and others saying you can't have it because it isn't yet available from the manufacturer or isn't compatible with some other component. That's not negativity, just the market reality.

If you want more than the Prime offers, by all means wait until the phone you want is released, either on the same or a different carrier.

So what's the problem?
