***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

True, and Gorilla glass isn't indestructible, but I'm sure most people will agree it is better than normal glass. I'm not sure what the point is arguing against Gorilla glass until something better comes along.

No one ever argues against Gorilla Glass and that's what is always misread.

The argument is that it is very wise to not trust it as indestructible or even 100% scratch-proof.

Corning does not make either claim about the product - only its fans do.

Do I prefer it? Sure. Why not?

Do I trust it implicitly? Glass. Desert sand.

Everyone focuses on the Gorilla part, but the other part is Glass - do we have an example of Gorilla Glass giving up the ghost here?

Ah -

Haha, I trusted gorilla glass too. Then one day I was just sitting on the couch and I pulled my phone out of my pocket. The screen was covered with cracks. I didn't even drop or hit the thing, it just...cracked. My OG Droid has been on a steady decline since then.

Y'all,

I didn't want to do any work today. The lack of leaks and the accompanying discussion has ruined my day.

I'm being way too productive at work. Can anyone help with this?

TIA.

In all honesty I will always choose Donkey Kong Glass over plain glass it is a no brainer. That being said I agree it is not indestructible it is just like a "buffer" to damage by scratching if you get what I mean.

It's kind of like low fat cookies. Some people see that they're low fat so they eat the whole box and then they scratch their head thinking "Why did I gain more weight? I ate a box of LOW FAT cookies everyday instead of half a box of regular ones."

Gorilla Glass = Better than regular glass but not magical.
That being said I really hope that on a "flagship" phone this would come standard. But to tell you the truth If they would release the Prime tomorrow with regular glass I'd grab it up!

PRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (in the style of Kirk to Khan)

You could always lend me some of your productivity! I've got calculus homework calling but find this thread too dang interesting. Can't. Pull myself. Away... :D

Another great point. I'm all for open-source, but I did agree with Steve Jobs when he kept talking about how Android was too fragmented. It is. The reasons our phones don't work as well as the iPhone is because we're all running on different specs with different versions of the same OS. Add the UI garbage like Motoblur, Sense, Touchwiz, etc., and it's not a wonder a lot of us deal with freeze-ups, lags, and random reboots on a far more frequent basis than Apple users. My wife has never had a freeze up or a reboot on her iPhone, and I've had about 2 freezes per day, at least.

Eh, I'm not buying it. I'll take the Android freedom to innovate and differentiate over the closed Apple ecosystem any day. I think the freezes are due to people rooting, poorly written apps, and some phones rushed to market before they've been shaken out -- none of that's due to fragmentation.

And I've said it before, I have zero sympathy for programmers who can't write code to accommodate different screen sizes and other stuff like that. Blame it on incompetent devs, not on the rich variety of resources they've been given to play with.

Even if it was not gorilla glass, I'm still not sold on the idea of using glass just yet, especially after Verizon refused to take the phone back or repair it.

What's the alternative for a touchscreen surface?

STEEEVEEEEEN

pls ask your source another question...

what i really want to know is:

"Is that verizon device, which all of your leaks refer to, also the world-gsm-device?
'Cause I don't think so, but maybe he/she knows something about the GSM-Version's Specs, too?!"

-> Cause I think I'm not the only one that:

1. isn't from the U.S. or
2. isn't a verizon customer

and we haven't got any Specs of our GT-I9250 (probably) -model, except the fact the GSM-Version seems not to be able to work with the american-LTE-frequencies (no word about the european ones, how could FCC test on european frequencies anyways)...

would be nice if it's true that the GSM-Version comes with other (slightely better) specs :)

Wait, wait, wait. They make glass out of gorillas?!?!?!:eek::eek:

No wonder sand scratches Gorilla Glass, Gorillas HATE SAND! They live in jungles. Maybe they should make lizard or cactus glass.

Glad I could help

And glue. They one of our most misunderstood natural resources. God knows what else we can construct from them.

BTW, I'm gonna bring this to the attention to the Occupy Wallstreet crew who are, at this moment, rallying in a park just in front of me. It's the wall street money grubbers who want to turn gorillas into money.

Only thing I can think of is TBolt w/slower ~A8 Snapdragon only has to drive a WVGA screen instead of the D3's qHD. In this set of tests, the D3 averages out to 42% faster than TBolt across the six benchmarks. Maybe Blur is slowing down your D3?

Oh...I think using a word like "maybe" is giving it a little too much credit. :D

Yeah, Blur is slowing it down and I know that is a part of the lag. I'd root it but as my work phone, all of our outside guys carry the same phone, so I need to be able to help troubleshoot their problems (so I want the same software).

So that's a valid point you've made. But the lag I experience gives me cause to wonder if Blur taxes the processor...what else will. I'm not so worried today but without one year contracts anymore, I have to think about how the phone will run in year two. I've never been able to keep a phone that long :o
