***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not open for further replies.
1) Source not sure whether it will be selling online pre-order or not.

2) Scheduled to be sold in VZW stores 11/3 but there is a LOT of tension, now, between VZW and Samsung/Google for the past two days and things are not looking good. There has been a lot problems regarding marketing, shipping quantities, (there might be other stores offering the Nexus at the same time on Verizon contract). There are other problem which our "source" can't get into.

4) Had these issues turned up beforehand the project might have been scrapped (nipped in the bud).

5) VZW people (identifying information deleted) are excited about November 3rd and having a great phone (we love phones, too). But a lot of (certain vzw people-identifying info deleted) are having anxiety attacks over things that are not firmly in their control.

That's today's epistle!

Love,
Steven58

Was point 3 redacted, or was there just a mistake in numbering?

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed.....I blame Verizon, no reason they just made my list for the day  lol

as an FYI me and Husker are best of friends :) we have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONGGGGGGGG history.

And friendship is a wonderful thing, so it's all good.

Fun's been had, thread's been cleaned, nothing personal.

Always ok to PM me on this sort of thing, in this case, it would be best if there are any questions. ;)

I've been an unregistered lurker in this forum since the day I found out VZW was passing on the SGII for a better phone with exclusive rights. If this phone gets passed too, I will go to whatever carrier I have to in order to get the Nexus. I assume that several others will do the same, but probably not enough to affect the bottom line at Verizon, and that's truly their only concern. If they feel it will make them look good, we will get the Nexus on VZW 4GLTE, but if they think they will not be able to steal some of the glory from Google and Samsung, those of us who are with Verizon will be sorely dissapointed, IMHO.

Welcome! Glad you came out to play! :D

Oh damn, I'm sorry r4yN. I was just teasing because of the previous misunderstanding and thought you'd smile. But you're not amused and it won't happen again. -BlueBiker

Agreed. Please delete my post above.

hm, i'm not angry... don't missunderstand me :D

[i just checked, i'm male for sure ;)]

but maybe i'm not the best in detecting sarcasm/irony, i thought you were serious, if not, then ignore my previous comment :D

Is Verizon getting nervous about not having complete control? They really need to relax and help market the phone properly and they should receive their reward.

Anyway, I thought of a good combo name for the device:

Galaxeus.

Galaxeus? Sounds like a prostitute from Spartacus - Blood and Sand. :p

Exactly, they are both contractually obligated and these things are par for the course. It should actually be expected

What's expected? Corporate infighting?

Can we all agree to not ask Steven to "pump" his source for more info? I don't like the downward spirals.

Redacted.. forgot to re-number.. I was playing scales with my other hand.

Edit: I was writing this and forgot why I stopped my student... totally blanked out. Was going to say, "my source says..." ... lol

"playing scales"

Right, anyway. I'm sure you've redacted it for good reason, but I can't say you haven't sparked my curiosity (and I'm sure the curiosity of the entire forum).

I'm not sure how much you're able to divulge, but do you know if the delay in announcement had anything to do with these mounting tensions and subsequent negotiations that were probably necessary?

Since there are different radios needed, it would take a little time unless they already have it ready to go for those carriers as well.

was more wishful thinking since gsm version passed FCC. I wouldn't mind getting this to replace my captivate if ics is as great as everybody says :)

I'm uncertain if this will be my next phone to replace my Droid X but the fact that it's a Nexus and finally for the first time on Verizon I may actually get it, sucks that it isn't a world phone though...

Well this probably explains why Verizon hasn't been reported to be present at the unveiling on Tuesday (and instead will be showing us some stupid rusty razor).

Scheduled to be, but things not looking good? Not looking good?!

What the heck is going on around here.

Surely, this can't be true......
(cue Airplane quote)

I wonder who's actually in charge of the release dates. If there's two version being released, is it up to el googlerino to decide or Sammy?

Seems like Google could step in and say sorry Verizon, we're releasing it on 11/3 with or without your stores participating.

I am assuming these groups have signed a contract, I would think Verizon is stuck big time, if they do something to break contract (i.e. kill the subsidy, or delay launch past when Sammy and Google say its ready) Sammy will immediately push for launch of other carrier's versions.

I'd love think Google/Sammy would team up and do that - but I wonder if Verizon would block the activation (at least in store) out of corporate spite.

Please Verizon, get over yourself and your monstrous ego. Focus instead on giving us good phones at a decent price instead of pissing off your customers.

I'm not in a hurry to choose a villain here. Seems to me improper to keep the carrier out of the release plans for a major anticipated phone (if that's what really happened).

What confuses me is how this friction could suddenly materialize mere weeks before release. Wouldn't all of the contractual negotiations have been completed or at least well underway months ago?

Open note to our "source"...

I want to publicly say thank you for all the info you've given us thus far, for caring about us and "loving phones." As you saw, I majorly truncated this Pm and kept this one low key, too. I care too, as I'm sure we all do, about your privacy.

We all thank you. :)

Sincerely Steven, Android Forums and Phandroid.

I don't think either of these things would happen. Lets not forget that Google owns Motorola and that is generally one of Verizon's closest partners.

The decision to delay the announcement out of respect to Jobs could have been done without Verizon's buy-in, then announcement overseas where Verizon doesn't operate... I can see Verizon getting their feelings hurt over that.

A guy who supposedly runs a couple att stores was trying to talk up the android devices they have and I threw in about the nexus coming out and he had no idea what I was talking about. Said it was Verizon's galaxy s. I was about to explain that its a dev phone, pure android and what not. Then just figured I'm talking to a wall.

Why can I not meet someone from in here in public and have someone finally know what I'm talking about?

I've been thinking about this, as well, and it all comes back to how the supposed idea of canceling the unveiling because of SJ's death didn't ring true to me. If it had to do more with Verizon causing problems, then it makes more sense.

Remember, Google/Samsung didn't give a reason for the cancellation/postponement at first. They only included the SJ death thing in their second revision of the announcement. If it was really for as noble a reason, you'd think they would just say it immediately and move on.

Either way, I agree with the contractual obligations thing. We'll be getting a pure Nexus on Verizon November 3. I couldn't care less whether Verizon's happy or not.

Here's to hoping "other problems" have to do with final device bootloader and other locking schemes along with how the software updates are going to be handled. Most info I have seen on leaked pictures from the phone suggest it's mostly being tested by Google peeps rather than VZW peeps.

None of this is probably good for future Nexus devices on Verizon though I suppose. Unless of course this phone sets records for new 2 year contracts or something crazy.

VZW NEEDS to get over their control of device issues though.

Unless Sammy/Google was playing all sides due to carefully worded contract negotiations and VZW just realized that they weren't the exclusive.

Verizon, be warned not to make the same mistakes as BoA, Netflix, and other recent business decisions that will prompt enormous, politically damaging, and very public consumer backlash....
