***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I will say, though, that I am looking forward to Google wallet, just to play. I don't think it's implemented widely enough in my area to really use it a lot. But, I am sort of excited to try it out.

If Verizon is paying ANY attention to this thread for real, hopefully they would realize that there is a large enough following of this device that they should be concerned with keeping/getting those customers. Also, that the group is small enough that I'm sure whatever negatives they see are minimal.

That's just me though.

Not to dash your hopes and dreams, but remember that we make up about 1% of the smartphone market out there. Bringing this discussion up with the average person on the street would elicit a "What's a Nexus?" response. While VZW may have eyes on this forum and perhaps even this thread they will always protect their wallets and if that means trying to block Google's then they will do what they feel they need to.

The interesting thing is that Samsung also signed on to support Isis so I wonder where they stand on the issue.

I would think most consumers could care less what app is used for NFC payments. WE JUST WANT THE DAMN PHONE!!!! So...

Dear Verizon, Google, and Samsung:

Please get off your asses and make a deal. That is all.

Your Customers

WOW! So much to digest over the last few pages. Panda dropped a bomb with his tweet. I was planning to get the Nexus on launch day, but if Panda's info turns out to be true, I may need to hold off. He says Sammy will not be the only stock ICS device released by the end of the year. That implies that Moto, HTC, etc. will also be releasing a stock ICS device. What do we know that's rumored to come out and out of those, are any of them supposed to be stock ICS. Isn't a stock Android device by definition a Nexus?

As many have said, the only phones coming out before the end of the year for Verizon (not sure about other carriers) are Nexus, Moto Spyder and HTC Vigor. Out of those, only the Nexus is supposed to be vanilla Android. What can he possibly be referring to?

No big deal, I'll just side-load it if i really want it.

same here. and i would do it just because it was blocked. using the site provided earlier i found a couple places around here that use it. i would like to at least try it out. i like the idea of what it could do in the future. the one place is a grocery store by my house and i live in the middle of nowhere. they probably wouldn't know what i was doing if i tried paying with my phone. but it says on google's site that they accept it.

I have no doubt the phone will be on schedule. What I do doubt is the supply and if it will be offered pre-purchase. Other "sellers" are gonna have it too. I assume that means Best Buy, so inventory is an issue. It may be a Droid Incredible deal, where there was a severe shortage of DIncs in the beginning.

Official Mod edit: TOP OF THE PAGE!!! w00t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed! If there is a pre order I suggest everyone jump or you may be waiting for a while. This phone is coming....

Contractual obligation is an important concept. If Verizon is "forced" to sell the Gnex against their will, they can do their best to tank it by witholding advertising, not allowing online pre-orders and generally making it hard to get. Then they can claim Nexus devices don't sell well and that's the last vanila device they ever carry.

These latest rumors fit too well to be wrong. I believe them. Even with their obligation, I feel there is an excellent chance the phone won't launch. It seemed too weird to me they were having another announcement at about the same time as the Samsung / Google announcement next week. It's a foolish stance from a consumer standpoint but we don't have the corporate egos they do.

Can they bully Apple? Not a chance. Verion excs would trade their first-born to get the iPhone. The frenzy over today's launch of the incrementally upgraded 4s is proof they would have been right to pawn their spawn.

Think the GNex is going to sell a tenth of what the iPhone will? Again, not a chance. It's a niche phone targeted at geeks. Listen to what Han's sister said when she expressed the phone was plain and boring. She's probably more typical of the common smartphone consumer. Just because we geeks feel strongly about something doesn't mean anyone else does.

In the end, I'm unhappy about the latest turn of events but one phrase is keeping my mood from becoming sour: "It's just a damn phone." Nothing to get worked up about.

This is the first VZW device since the iPhone I have heard in casual conversations around work. Also, compare discussion here about it to what can be found related to Rezound and RAZR. This WILL be the first non-Droid device to SCHOOL all Droids on sales. Pure and simple.

If love that the end result of these corporations arguments may result in the end user losing out... Sux

I have a feeling about this. We're not going to lose out. There was some stuff I left out in my daily epistle. I can summarize without exposing anything. There's a level of VZW employee (most of them) that are super-psyched about this. It's an amazing phone. The end-users are gonna salivate. There's a higher level of VZW that is really anxious/tense about this because of the lack of control in corporate negotiations.

Adding everything up? We win. The announcement's already in the wind and these are the final backdoor/closed-door legal negotiations. Everyone wants it to succeed, but everyone wants to posture themselves in the best possible position, financially. Typical corporate stuff. It'll all be over soon. It'll all be revealed and when it is, we will all celebrate.

My sense? It's pretty much a done deal from our perspective.

We need some clarification on what the Panda means when he says "stock ICS device".

Does "stock ICS device" mean that it is vanilla Android?

OR

Does "stock ICS device" mean that the phone will be released with ICS? (In other words, the phone will come with ICS, it won't be a future upgrade)

EDIT: Just for clarification, I am referring to the Panda's quote about more "stock ICS devices" by the end of the year. I know the Nexus will be vanilla ICS.

I'll wager a substantial amount that a lot of people in the forum influence a large number of people. As an "unofficial" IT guy in my office, I'm the go to person for phone tech. Just pushed a dedicated iPhone buyer to the SGS2 (and he's loving it btw).

Us 1% ers are the mindshare the OEM's need to win.

I highly doubt Razr, Vigor will get updated to ICS by the end of year if they come with Gingerbread first. That's not enough time to port ICS, develop UI skin (Blur, Sense) and put their bloats there. The only way is to launch them with ICS on board, but there is zero such signs so far.

LG Revolution 2, Droid 4, and then there is the whole Galaxy Nexus/ Nexus Prime/ Droid Prime being different phones concept and that is just Verizon. Remember that there is also At&t, T-Mobile, Sprint and every other carrier on the face of the planet from Cananda, UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, Africa, Antarctica, etc. Who knows what else could be coming that nobody has bothered to notice yet.

Yum...The Macallan.... My Favorite...

Talisker here.... just got a rare bottle of 57 North.

I think we have to remember that all these back door dealings happen with every phone...........not every phone has a "source" like we do...soooo we will get it...

If hope you're it's understandable they want to make the most they can, that's what they're in business for. My worry is that the corporate stock measuring is gonna result in things that can cripple the phone.

If this is going to be such a great phone, where is the advertising program? I might not be in the mainstream, but I can't remember any tv ads that it is coming. Whose job is it to promote it, VZW, or Samsung or Google? What a clusterfu.. Whoever said it was a niche phone might be right. If it isn't promoted correctly, it won't sell.

I said a few pages back if the launch was indeed canceled for any other reason than the passing of Steve Jobs then it was a very serious matter.

This is typical of Verizon. I wouldnt doubt this info is in fact true. Now whether they allow it on their network is another story but I for one would not put it past them. This is a pretty heavy blow.
