***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Folks might be forgetting a few dynamics going on:

1. Google bought Motorola. Google can spin all they want, but no way they do not get SOME form of preferential treatment at some point.

2. Samsung is ear deep in Apple poo. VZW could use the legal issues as a lack of confidence and weasel out of just about any Sammy contract or addendum of said contracts.

3. What are we talking about? I have lost my train of thought :)

Oohh, I hate to leave in the middle of all these great new rumors, but the sun is down and it is time to go out on a date. Keep it under 30 new pages boys, I really don't want to be reading too much. ;)

Night

What worries me Steven is that the event was cancelled. Perhaps Verizon is just posturing but the event being cancelled is not just a ho-hum type of thing. If Verizon was willing to kill that event they may just be willing to go to the wall over this.

Perhaps that's why the event was cancelled. Verizon isn't going to launch it.

Dang Steven I just don't know but in the spirit of things I will stand by your side and support your opinion and trust in this source of yours

signed: uneasy in Los Angeles

I see what you're saying, but Verizon wasn't slated to take part in the CTIA event either.

Let's do the math: There are 200,000 NP's in boxes, which VZW could sell on contract for $300 apiece. That's $60,000,000 worth of NP's total. Well maybe VZW thinks their NFC moneymaker thingamabob will bring in several $billion over the next 5-10yrs.

Wouldn't that make it an easy decision to burn them?

They may lose a little bit of new contract signups over the next month or two until the Vigor and more exciting phones hit, but I can't see that being a big factor.

Verizon doesn't buy they from Samsung on a contract price, they buy them at wholesale, which is probably going to be ~450-550 per phone. Still, it doesn't modify the numbers that much.

you're talking about a technology that is virtually nonexistent - Google Wallet or NFC - in the United States. Not to say it won't take off, but you never know. The decision, if there's one being made, is ACTUAL costs vs PROJECTED gains. Future, forecasted gains...Just sayin...

Good points. As far as I know there isn't much doubt that NFC payments will take off, but to what extent and how many players will still be standing when the smoke clears?

FWIW, I wouldn't put it past Facebook and Amazon to get into the game too (if they aren't already).

I see what you're saying, but Verizon wasn't slated to take part in the CTIA event either.
Not take part but they could have been part of the announcement i.e. the phone would be offered via Verizon Wireless first.

I just find it a very strange coincidence......

My source said that had this all happened three months ago, it would have killed the deal. This indicates they are in it too deep to back out. No such thing as a little pregnant, you know. All-or-nothing.

My question would have to be (assuming 'this' is the Wallet/Isis thing): How did VZW not know? How did they not know NFC would be on the device and that it would include Google Wallet? How did they find out 4 days before the device is going to be unveiled? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Can someone enlighten me as to why anyone is making any definitive declarations in regards to contracts and how much money is at stake? Do we have access to these agreements?

I don't know, but she/he did say they were given a week on either side, as well, but that the 11/3 seemed fixed. Perhaps something happened relating to the aforementioned legal wranglings? This is big money monopoly, they're playing, here.

If that roadmap is true, and that

Those things are SOOOOO freaking easy to fake. There's been a ton of them in the past that have crapped out.

yeah but Kellex is usually pretty reliable. he has a good track record so i'm inclined to believe that he got this from a trusted source or he wouldn't have posted it.

I'm lost. Are we large enough or small enough?

Both. I'm saying that we should be large enough for them to want, and yet small enough for whatever negatives they are worried about to be minimal.

Say there are 100 people with Verizon dedicated to this device and willing to switch carriers to get it. An arbitrary number, I know, but 100 seems plausible. Now, with data alone, that's 3k a month total, 36k a year. Pennies to vzw, but large enough to attract attention, right? So this small group should be obtained/kept for their small contribution.

Now, flipside, those 100 people may be running software vzw doesn't like, but of that group, how many will cost Verizon, or lose them profits? Not enough to do serious damage to numbers.

Again, this is just my opinion and I know absolutely nothing.

Erm, the Verizon CEO spoke at CTIA actually...

The CEO's of the big 3 were there as part of a different keynote. I'm just saying the cancelled event was Samsung and Google's baby. There was no Verizon logo on the invite, like there is on the Motorola Event for the RAZR.

I do agree with CK though that this popping up now, after the event was moved outside of the US makes me a little uneasy.

What do you know, anyway? You are a baby AND a serial killer

Seems your psychosis would cross between imagination and reality too much to comprehend the micro and macro economic dynamics of business :)

It's called reading and comprehending the Wiki BB posted lol. Sums it up rather nicely that even a psychotic baby serial killer can easily understand.

Small but very vocal minority, who are otherwise loyal to Verizon.

Economics aside, I'd think they'd prefer to keep enthusiasts, because it's the enthusiasts who tell thier coworkers, friends and family which network is superior.

But I remember they reported leaked verizon MAP list back in August, saying Stratosphere will be released on 9/8 the same day as Bionic, and Vigor in the middle of Oct. None of that didn't happen.
