Hey all this talk about watching media on the GNex got me thinking, is there a kickstand on it? I am assuming no with how thin it will be.
 
Incorrect perspective. They're subsidizing the phone with the service, not the service with the phone. The cost to provide the service is a relative constant, supported by cost modeling derived from planned costs for R&D, system maintenance and upgrades, etc. The cost to Verizon to provide that service does not fluctuate based on your phone. It costs what it costs. To attract you as a customer, the carrier is willing to subsidize the price of the phone in exchange for guaranteeing a revenue stream for a period of time. When that period of time is up, you can continue with the same phone, obtain another subsidized phone from the same carrier, or obtain a subsidized phone from another carrier.

If you go to a bar, and the bartender throws you a few free drinks, do you tip on the price of the drinks you consumed or the drinks for which you were charged? Given your vantage point, I am guessing it is the latter when it shoud be the former. You still got the same service. The bartender's work was not lessened by not charging you, he still did the same amount of work, he just charged you less for the product.

I was basing my math on buying the phone full retail FROM Verizon, so yes, they WOULD get the extra $350 and still charge me for it over the months as I continue month to month. Why buy it from Verizon? Because they're the ones who are going to have the phone in stock on Launch Day, and that's when I want the phone.

Equally, I bought my OG Droid subsidized on November 6, 2009. So at the end of my term, my monthly rate should drop because I'm done paying for the phone, right? I know that won't happen... but it should.

AFAIK it's not at all impossible so much as manufacturers and aftermarket peeps have never connected up and marketed that as an option. I am guessing it's possible in many cases, but technicalities related to drivers and supply chain for the little cards make it a bit hit and miss whether you could buy one of the cards from the OEM channel and get it to work with your particular laptop. Not to mention some laptop vendors don't even use the little laptop PCI cards so much as more permanent on board chips making marketing aftermarket replacements at retail near impossible since "who knows" if you laptop even has the proper little pci for such little adapters.

Actually, you should re-watch all your favorite videos on the Galaxy Nexus as it will be a treat. Too bad Netflix delivers pretty compressed video... otherwise it would eat up most of the net traffic in North America!

Considering that it's only been Cellebrite reporting the final name as Nexus Prime, I'm sure it's just that's the name in their primary database. They could update it later on, but I'm sure they just use the code name.

Didn't they use Vigor for the Rezound too? I'm sure they just work with old information.

Call me paranoid, but if I had hands-on access to the latest and greatest, I'd be taking tons of pictures of it. Anyone else concerned that this guy was comfortable enough to reveal very specific details of the phone's capabilities, but didn't post one picture of the device? Am I missing something?
 
I have a few questions about whether it will have Isis. I think we all know that it will have google wallet, but it seems Isis is one of the few apps sponsored by VZW that I would like. Perhaps the only app, actually. So...will Isis be packaged with the ROM (my guess is no), and if not, will it be installable from the market or somewhere else?

If you look at the threads I've spun off, you'll find that I've put my own welcoming posts at the top even though that wasn't so in the original timeline.

This is because I'm you're Vorlon mod and have control of time and such things.

And I'm truly surprised that it hasn't occurred to anyone to bribe me for the 10k spot. But, that would be bad. So, whatever you do, don't bribe me to get the 10k spot. Don't even make it a bidding war with me to get the 10k spot. Last thing we'd want is anyone bribing me for that 10k spot. Because it would be wrong to bribe me to get the 10k spot. So, whatever you do, don't try to bribe me for the 10k spot in this thread.
 
Damn you VZW! Now I have to decide if it's worth jumping ship and losing my ATT unlimited to go VZW 5GB for the same price with the GNex.

I really hope they announce when the other carriers will get it tomorrow. If they give me something firm on other carriers then I think I ...might...be able to wait. It they leave ATT and Sprint in the dark I'll probably go VZW.

We just got LTE in the area so this is very tempting.

True. But I've never in my life seen a phone this secretive, but it appears to be real. I guess times are changing, and Verizon, Google, and/or Samsung might be picking up their game in picking their testers or drawing up their NDA's.

Also, the iPhone has been tested, but very few extensive leaks have ever gotten out, except for the occasional phone lost in a bar, of course.
