Would like to correct you on screen suppliers. HTC is not using LG screen, their SLCD is from Sony. LG is however supplying IPS/LCD to Apple and you know that alone is huge quantity. I don't know who provided pentile LCD to Moto so far, but I'm pretty sure it's not Samsung. I don't think Samsung ever produced pentile LCD, but they make pentile SAMOLED.

If it's PenTile, it's from Samsung.

I got that straight from the horse's mouth, link to source in Screen Tech thread.

SLCD is a joint Sony / Samsung venture, either can sell it, but it's Samsung screen technology.

Samsung gets around. ;)

How will the screen on the G-Nex perform in sunlight? I have a Dinc which is AMOLED and it's very difficult to see outdoors.

If it's anything like the Galaxy S II, it'll be awesome in the light. Looks like it should be an HD version of that display so it should be all good.

I think a lot of the Bionic crowd don't like their screen, it's just a "What can I do?" situation so they just accept it. But I was actually hoping that the screen on the Galnexusaurus is Pentile, for the outdoor readability. There's a lot of times where I want to sit outside and read, and I can't.

(Although I guess that's over with, since Winter Is Coming.)

But, seriously, I hate walking around outside and not being able to read a text. I really hope the screen is Pentile 720p. I don't think you'd notice the screen door effect at that resolution. Hope not, anyway.

The RGBG AMOLED Pentile will NOT help with this much. Particularly when the resolution is jacked up to 720p effectively reducing pixel/subpixel size no matter how you slice it. AMOLED tends to get brighter with bigger pixels and dimmer with smaller ones. There are process improvements that help though since it's still a young technology in most respects.

RGBW Pentile LCD is the only tech that will really jack up brightness and help outdoor visibility. Really though a reflective tech like this is what you really want for outdoor use as it reads easy outdoors AND conserves massive battery while doing so by turning off the back light and working off reflection rather than transmission of light. Any light transmitting tech is just gonna use lots of power in sunlight trying to overcome the quantity of light.

From your favorite client (I use ChatZilla), these two commands should do it in most cases -

/server freenode

/join #androidforums

See you there - don't know if I can support a hangout, but will if possible!

Except for the Thunderbolt. The technology is there, the manufacturers just choose not to use it.

I think it's called SVDO when voice and data can go simultaneous over 3G and I don't understand why the Thunderbolt is the only one that can do it.

I guess I shouldn't worry too much since my area is covered here in Cleveland with LTE. Does anyone know if the CDMA versions of the GSII has SVDO? Just curious since it would help in the 4G spotty areas where I use navigation a lot.

Thanks for correction. Guess you're right. I didn't know samsung is also making Pentile LCD as I never saw Samsung smart-phone using it.

So this means D3, Bionic is getting excellent white brightness thanks to Samsung pentile RGBW LCD. I wonder why Samsung doesn't utilize it in their mid-range phones then.

Ok. Wasn't sure on that one, hence the "I believe". That's cool and I see it's actually a Sony/Samsung joint deal from the next posts. Dang that samsung and Displays.

Although I think all of these LCD suppliers also build to spec for many customers so something like the iPhone display can have Apple proprietary tweaks.

I will look for the link on Samsung being the primary RGBW LCD supplier, but pretty sure they own a majority interest in some small company that owns that IP and build displays that use the tech. They just apparently don't use any of them for their own stuffs. Moto has used them and believe Nokia have used them.

this guy has Batman Arkym City on reserve at Game Stop. I can't wait. Arkym Asylum was a great game.

...i'm just trying to figure out if i want to get it on the PS3 or Xbox.

i was wondering if I should goto midnight release . The gamestop employees here are going to dress up as different batman villains haha. I have both Xbox and ps3 I think I will get ps3 version since ps3 versions usually look better

Another lurker coming out of the dark...

I feel like I'm cheating on my phone. My X has been pretty good to me.

Why hello! Yes, I would agree with the phone adultery, but my OG Droid hasn't been that good to me. I can't get it turned on very easily, and whenever I get really excited, she turns off inexplicably!

She's toast!

Well that blows!

Don't worry. Though SAMOLED screen is not as bright white as pentile LCD, it still has fairly good outdoor visibility due to very high black/white contrast, viewing angle.

Yep. More than one way to skin a ......sorry.

Although the only review I have seen of the Note which has a screen that SHOULD be brighter than this one by having bigger sub-pixels said it wasn't the brightest and hoped it was due to the pre-production nature. Even though the extreme contrast is helpful, you do still need plenty of light output to overcome that big orange circle in the sky, even with extreme contrast.
