Dumb question but is the off contract price set by sammy or VZW? I would think Samsung, in which case I would expect a lower price but I could be totally off..
 
24 hours and some change till the big event. Little over 500 post till 11000. Who's ready to start slinging the cream... ice cream sandwich that is. Like a junkie waiting for his next fix!
 
I'm worried about the thread... almost everyone's in the chat client and (almost) nobody's posting here! :( How are we supposed to hit 11K if they're all bean-dippin' over there for the next 24 hours?

This all is forcing Verizon to have to try something different than they may be comfortable with or have done in the past. I think they realize that the iPhone isn't going to do this for them. Remember they don't really care about selling phones, they want to sell plans. Specifically plans to people who weren't on Verizon before. To do this they need new, hot phones because that's what brings the people in. The iPhone did that for AT&T but it isn't the latest, hotest thing anymore. That market is saturated. You can get it pretty much anywhere. You need something new to pull them in. Verizon also tied themselves to Android before they could get the iPhone. Now that they've seen what the iPhone will and won't do for their profits I think they realize they need Android and a lot of it and let's face it Android as an OS is over iOS now.

Now tying all this together Verizon doesn't care what phones we buy as long as we stay or even more so join their network. I think at this point they'll offer as many phones as financially makes sense. They're are costs involved in making these deals to carry the manufacture's phones so there are limits. Ultimately they will offer whatever makes sense to get us to fork over the money on the bread and butter of what they are, a wireless carrier.

You just squeaked in with a few to spare....can you tell I wrote plenty of term papers in my days...:D

You bring up some very good points about the iPhone, my son works for Verizon and he has always said the iPhone deal was bust for them and they are not happy with how the deal worked for them. Verizon is looking for new market share and are being forced into a position they do not like.

They also realize that they may not win the battle but still look to gain some advantage for future ventures!

It's only a short drive to your small town from Chattanooga. (I used to live in McMinnville). I could drive up there and be there 30 minutes before opening just to say I beat you.

I kind of realized what may have been the most important point as I was typing. And that is that Verizon really isn't attached to any phone. They don't really care if we buy the Razr or the Bionic or the Rezound or the Prime or even the cheapest piece of crap smartphone they have. All they care is that we have data plans, text plans, and voice plans. The reality is the phones are loss leaders for them anyway. Why would they care if we get a Razr that we pay $299 or a Prime that we pay $299. Either way they are subsidizing about the same amount to the manufactures.

Sure their bloatware and whatever money it still brings in comes in to play a little since they can't put in on the Prime. Even with this the real profit is in the data plans. I'm sure Verizon realizes this by now. The writing is on the wall that the bloat like VZNavigator isn't going to continue to be profitable. Verizon is seeking a phone, any phone, that will lure people away from another carrier to bring in more plan profits. If they can find a phone that will pull people away from the iPhone that will be their cash cow.

Hello everyone, been lurking this thread for a couple days now via my Droid X, I've been looking forward to this phone since the first reports of it coming to Verizon. I'm a huge fan of the Nexus series (I was completely set to snatch up the Nexus One back when it was supposed to be on all carriers), and I've been waiting on VZW to finally pick one up, hopefully this is it. I've had the DInc (I was one of the people who was involved in that massive DInc thread way back when) and now have the Droid X after 3 failed DInc's. My DX is really starting to show its age, and I never really have been a fan of Blur, was kinda forced into the DX (replacement phone of the same value, blah, blah)

Anyways, I'm upgrade eligible as of 12/29, and as far as I can see, this will be my next phone. Always been a huge proponent of the "pure Google experience." Took me a while to let myself come back to this forum after spending so much time here waiting on the DInc because I just knew I'd get borderline obsessed again, and I'll be damned if it didn't happen. Haha

Besides all that, has that video that is supposedly the Nexus Prime been proven wrong? I mean this one:

I'm sure you all have discussed it to death. I really think this is the phone we're going to see tomorrow, but I'll wait to give my reasons when I hear from someone what we've already learned about this video, as I'm sure it's been poured over a thousands times by people much more knowledgeable than I. lol

Not sure as far as MSRP goes, but would guess Sammy. And each retailer prices based on cost and profit margins they are looking to take of course. Kinda like how VZW sells for cheap on the Bionic, but Best Buy is higher. Then Costco won't even sell you one unsubsidized which is a sham.
 
Definitely a lot more quite in terms of leaks today. I guess it is the calm before the storm.

Thin as 4S and light as GS2
8mp camera and front camera with unknown MP
1GB ram
No logos but prob because I wasnt using production version

-NFC and Google wallet

-4G LTE on Verizon and new 4G modem for faster 4G

-Dark silver plastic design but metal inside for internal stability and feel.

-can't give away included apps, gotta leave some surprise!

-1900 mAh battery and ICS is incredible at battery management

-Idk release date it price

Not sure if I will be happy until YOU get this device. Your ups and downs remind me of that carnival game where one uses an oversized mallet to smash a metering device up toward a bell. When you get the Nexus Prime (I am calling it that now; I do, however, enjoy the dinosaur iteration of the device's name) it will be as if you are aboard the elevator in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, smashing straight through the glass ceiling into Bolivian [sic] (to quote the famous word used Mike Tyson).

Motorola has been building their whole 'webtop' experience into their top-end phones for nearly a year now. I think we can all agree it's not exactly a seamless experience though, running a virtual machine on top of android.

Now we all know that the Asus Transformer is at least a passing laptop experience on Honeycomb. Ice Cream Sandwich is an amalgamation of 2.3 and 3.2, so it's possible that you could make some kind of hack to change to the tablet interface while on a phone. And we know that the Galaxy S2 at least has keyboard and mouse support. This gave me the idea to put together a webtop-like setup for the Prime - a 720p+ monitor (mirrored) along with bluetooth keyboard and mouse for doing productive things while in big-picture mode.

Then another thought occured to me. The Nexus Prime has a new dock connector. :rolleyes:

Actually I have been thinking about this for some time, because (look it up on engadget for the proof) with the android emulator, if you used the honeycomb image, you could get it to appear like a phone if you set the screen size smaller than a 10'' tablet. This insinuates that if you were to somehow make a device or emulator take the 5'' or below screen size of an ICS phone to 7'' or higher you would get the tablet experience.
 
Everyone leaning toward 11/10 at this point, or is there still hope for 11/3? It's really gonna piss me off if the release misses my trip by only a week. I would have loved to take this along, especially since several of the people I'm going to see own iPhones.
