If I pay full retail for the phone, my bill should go DOWN substantially because they're not subsidizing anything.

That's how it works everywhere in the world except the US. The US telcoms industry is bordering on being a cartel.

I can buy the phone outright here in the UK, probably around

Welcome to the forums and my point exactly!

If I pay full retail for the phone, my bill should go DOWN substantially because they're not subsidizing anything. If my bill doesn't drop, there's no reason to pay them TWICE for the phone by going the full retail route.

Verizon is giving an incentive to sign a two year contract, and stabilize their customer base. That is how it needs to be recognized as. For those of us who are stuck with Verizon, it pays to get a new phone as soon as you are eligible, because of this reason. It is the way to maximize your value of your plan.

You're looking at it the wrong way.

Signing a two-year contract is your payment for that subsidizing of the phone.

You aren't paying twice for the phone.

I'll bet I am paying twice for the phone!

Look, I understand that if I pay $299 for Gnex, I'm locking into a 2-year revenue stream for Verizon while they make up the difference in price and make a profit on the phone. But if I buy the phone outright, they've got their costs and profit up front and have no business charging me again.

$649 Full Retail minus $299 subsidized = $350 that Verizon is spreading out over two years. $350/24= $14.58 per month. If I pay full retail for the phone, my bill should DROP $14.58 because I already paid for the phone and there's nothing to subsidize! But I betcha the monthly rate WON'T drop.

And THAT'S the point I'm trying to make here.

Didn't Samsung do this with the Galaxy SII in Europe/Asia. If I remember correctly, you tapped the bezel to launch the search function (since a search button was lacking).

IDK, but if this feature makes the phone incompatible with cases, a standard accessory for my phone users, I'll be going to the Vigor/Rezound. My Incredible is in perfect condition because of the case I keep it in.

You could put a full-body invisibleshield (or equivalent) if that is the case (no pun intended), not as much protection against drops, but will protect against scratches.

Hey long time follower first time poster. I've been addicted to this forum and Nexus thread since I saw a link on Phandroid. On thedroidguy twitter account he notes the FCC clears the Samsung Galaxy S II HD with 4G/LTE in tow..........is there any chance this could be Verizon's version of the Nexus?? It says it has a 1.5 dual core processor but doesn't state which one???

Thanks to everyone for all the info they have shared about the Nexus device. I have always wanted a pure Google phone on Verizon. I'm what you would call a phone geek without being smart enough with phone stuff for the geek part.

I totally agree with your argument. I, also, have never seen the benefit of buying off contract (when you have an upgrade available). If there was a difference between the contract/no contract pricing then it'd be more of an option.

Good question. The link was on a tech blog and is supported by Archos now delaying their 1.5ghz devices and might just overclock the 4460 to meet their pushed out mid December estimate.

Archos also mentioned the 4470 delay.

ok well I'm with T-mobile at the moment, and I guess i'm in one of their hot spots as I've never had problems like a lot of others have.

And the way it works with them is, if you bring your own phone or buy retail, than your bill would be whatever amount cheaper that you would have been paying if you got a phone deal through them. .USUALLY you end up paying more for the phone on contract than you do buying it at full retail.

If I bought a $400 phone full retail, that is all I would pay. .but if I got it through T-mobile I pay $199, and they end up raising my monthly bill by $15 for the 2 year contract. .and 15 * 24 = $360 + $199 (which I paid up front) = $559.00

The other thing that carriers do when they sell a phone to us is they make sure that they sell it at the HIGHEST price, and hide the fact that you would be paying more if you bought it from them. So they'll price it at $700, than make you pay $299, and than raise your bill $16, and you end up paying the full $700 in the 2 year contract. .but in reality you can probably manage to find the phone at like $500.

So it has always been cheaper to buy a phone at full retail, than through the providers. .by the end of the contract the carriers always make more than the phone was worth. . so it's kind of like a loan with interest which you pay back slowly. .

Sorry if this ran too long

i only ask because you're saying TI made that claim, when it was archos saying that. so was just curious if TI had in fact come forward to confirm those claims

edit: they mentioned the 4470 delay? i don't remember that. got a link to that at least? lol

Good morning G'nexers.

Lots of rumors starting to boil up as well as this video of ICS running on a SGS2. Only a day and a half left until the announcement and I am beyond excited now. Cannot wait to see what Samsung and Google have for us.

Wasn't 100% sure if this was posted or not, so if so sorry, but if not I will just leave this here: Galaxy Nexus has the goods... : Android <-- [reddit link]

Good morning to all, Galnexusaurus lovers! I woke up today and thought it was Tuesday! :(

I just checked my upgrade eligibility and it says that I'm not eligible until October 2012!

However, I was eligible in July 2011, bought the hideous X2, and then returned it within 10 days. I do have the receipt of return, so I should be able to get this straightened out, right? Has anyone had this happen to them?

Yes you just have to call customer service or go to a store. Sometimes it can take over a month to reset and sometimes it has to be done manually. I would get on this asap to.avoid any problems.

Remember seeing it in a tech forum and then days later in a post from Androidpolice linking Archos.

Han...really? This is what it has come to? This isn't a launcher; this is sheer anger manifested into isheepish behavior. I am not one to judge; I have some doubts, too. But no way man; NO WAY!

I know. I know.

I changed my launcher back to LP a few minutes after that terrible post. I saw the error in my ways, and was too ashamed to tell everyone and drag it on further. Sorry.

. . . .

My favorite quote from the article:

He explains that the 720P screen is extremely vivid, unlike anything he's ever seen before more so than the retina of the Iphone.

Guys, this thing is going to be a beast! A smelly, shaggy, sharp-toothed, terrifying beast that we will unleash on the world!

I can't wait!!!!

Seriously, guys, I'm smiling like an idiot!

I know what your point is. It's just incorrect ;)

Your service is your service. It's a fixed cost. Verizon isn't making $14.58/month more profit just because you purchased the phone outright, and they aren't paying out $14.58/month for the entirety of your contract.

There's a marginal cost that we're discussing here. That's the $350 difference between on-contract and off-contract. Verizon is paying that, in return for getting a guaranteed revenue stream from you. If they don't pay that, they don't ask for anything extra from you. Since these phones aren't worth anywhere near $649 to Verizon, their actual cost associated with this is very small - and were they to drop your bill by $14.58, it would be a huge money sink for them.

Don't equate value with retail pricing. The phones have a value to Verizon of probably between $200 and $300. Just because you must pay $649 off-contract doesn't mean that Verizon values them at that price.

Lastly, consider: if you are on-contract, you have to buy the phone from Verizon or a Verizon-authorized dealer. If you are off-contract, you could buy the phone anywhere. So your additional $350 that you paid isn't going to Verizon at all in that case.

I really hope this is true! Can't wait until tomorrow!!!!

you're not worried about what jcase said?

Based on personal experience the specs listed above are wrong. The unit I had access to does not match the specs above.
-jcase TeamAndIRC

Particularly the CPU is a 4460 that is clocked down 1.2ghz, atleast in this build (Easy change in kernel, and could be changed with with a few keystrokes). The camera app shows 5MP not 8mp and the battery states 1750.

edit: and by worried, i mean, if those specs are indeed wrong, does that mean the whole thing is wrong? or just those specs. hmmmm

A MONTH?!!

Whaaaaa??

Obviously%20Verizon%20Sucks.jpg

This would be just what I need. To finally have the glorious Galnexusaurus release day arrive, and to not be able to get it because of a stupid screwup on Verizon's part.

Ooooh no, that's not going to happen. I will throw a freaking tantrum, people. Seriously, I'll jump up and down, stomp my feet, run around in circles screaming "No! No! No!", ball my fists at the employees and clench my jaw really hard while holding my breath til I get really red, and have angry tears stream out of my eyes. Another customer will record this on his new Galnexusaurus and it will go viral on Youtube.

I'm getting that phone on launch day, one way or another!

I seem to have missed quite a bit. Are Verizon people okay now? We getting this device untouched by vzw? Or still no word?

Don't misunderstand me. It can SOMETIMES take that long but if they change it manually it is usually instant
