***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

What if this is just part of Google's master plan of managing expectations?

iPhone took a huge hit because everyone was expecting an iPhone 5. How much better would the public have taken the announcement if a release came out the day before showing pics and benchmarks of a lesser phone? I bet Apple's stock wouldn't have dropped $20 in 10 minutes.

Yes I realize they sold a butt load after that but the release event could've gone much better. Their stock would've jumped instead of dipped.

Anyway, by Samoogle leaking false specs all over the place it keeps people guessing. Nobody and can point to any one device and say, "see, this is the final build and that's what I can expect". With nothing firm, everyone will be happy when the phone is even a little better than some of the specs. Stocks will jump following the announcement and smiles everywhere (minus apple camp)

Brilliant social management of expectations. Well played.

Biggest difference is that, like you said, everyone was expecting a new iphone, no one outside of the blogosphere (which is relatively small) gives a damn or even knows about the new nexus.

=Many of us are on OG Droids or DXs that are dying, so we're going to need a new phone anyway, and this is the cutting-edge in the Android software world. We have no idea if it's cutting edge in the hardware world.

+1, count me as one on the DX crowd. Been sitting on an upgrade, and trying to balance the aspects of "Well there's always something sitting on the horizon" against "Let's get the upgrade done and enjoy it."

Usually I'm one to let everyone else jump to be first to get New Product Z, check out the reaction, then buy something. But.. I may take an early leap on the GNex.

I still don't see what everyone's deal is with the size. Makes absolutely zero difference to me if it's 125mm or 135mm tall. As it stands with the DX, it fits in any of my pockets with an inch to spare... and comfortably in one hand I can get my thumb anywhere on the screen. If it's plus or minus a bit from that.. not gonna even notice it.

Those of you who are disappointed in the specs that were leaked, what were you expecting?

The benchmark score is what really disappoints me. I was afraid the extra pixels would do this to it. I don't want a phone that got a "HD screen" rushed on it when the hardware is not capable of running an HD screen efficiently for the next two years. What happens when I actually use it for a while and have more software on it then it actually came with???? What will happen to the benchmarks then, will it start locking up all the time, etc. Maybe the best phones out there will be the qHD screens when they get ICS.

All these negative comments on this thread.... Starting to look like my Facebook feed of all my whining friends. 10.5 hours left then if it these new specs are true we can all start crying.

In this one case, I refuse to be my usual cynical self. While it won't meet ALL of our expectations, I think Stephen's source (refuse to call him/her L____ T____) will be correct. That and VZ_Wired saying we will be very happy gives me encouragement. These people seem intelligent enough to know that a phone with existing or weaker specs will not make us very happy.

While I don't think Google or Samsung are that clever, I would love to think all these leaked specs are just misdirection to lower our expectations then wow us with the announcement (as mentioned above). I'm sure some marketing weenie would use phrases including "synergy" and "creating a buzz" to stop such a campaign.

It would be a brilliant move, though.

I have to admit, if the new specs are true, I agree that this thing will be a fail. I will be waiting for S3 or something else better in first quarter of 2012.

if the rumors specs of the s3 are true, you should wait, it's fail too. there's a phone in Q2 that is way better ;)

i thought i read somewhere before that the verizon model would be the "galaxy prime" and the regular nexus prime or whatever its called would be gsm ?

Awesome! New specs leak that match up with what many of us thought were the real specs from before almost perfectly and a new photo that just looks like a crappy photo of a photo of the same phone we had a good side view photo of and everyone goes off their rocker. This is the best thread ever. Nothing changes, but everything changes.

Speaking of which...where is VZ_Wired during all of this??? I haven't seen him post here in what, 2 weeks?

Well except for fruit it had the highest score of all the Verizon phones. So it is no slouch.

Is the S3 really supposed to come out so early?

I have heard as vaugue as first half 2012, but assume that to mean 2Q 2012, which could be as late as the end of June. I'm not in a position nor am I prepared to wait 8 months for a new phone. My Rogue is on it's last leg.

Also, keep in mind that many pre-production target dates get pushed back quite frequently.

You had to say it!!!!! If that happens I am calling Jabba and pushing your butt into some Carbonite

True, but I'm on T-mo, so GSII is option for me...I guess I was hoping it would be a cut above it. Especially since it sounds like T-mo may not get it until late this year or early next. Hence why I may wait on something else.
