It's more than an overclocked 4430. Here are the OMAP4430 and OMAP4460 tech ref manuals. Enjoy!

Ugh, just reading that sentence made my head hurt.

I'm going to go all "logical" on you guys and merely assume that since Netflix HD streaming has been approved for 4460, and the guys at the Moto event today said that you'll have Netflix HD streaming on the Razr, that 1+1 then = 2.

Really? No chatter about the sub par performance of the Galaxy Nexus via GLBenchmark?

What do you guys think of this?

This is where some of the initial concerns came from. Let's compare that with the Droid Bionic and the iPhone 4S. Scores are out of 5 stars.
Code:
Test Galaxy Nexus Droid Bionic iPhone 4S
Egypt Fixed Time 2 2.5 5
Egypt High 1.5 2 5
Egypt Offscreen (720p) 1.5 1.5 4
Egypt Standard 2 2.5 5
Pro Fixed Time 3 3.5 5

Pro Standard 3.5 3.5 5

Not reassuring...

What do I care what kind of scores it gets in Egypt? :p

Why, oh why, is anyone lending any credibility whatsoever to a test/debug version of software?

Do you guys have any idea how many debug traps that programmers drop into code to log events, throw particular errors, capture information, etc., all in the name of software development?

Debug and testing software is NEVER fast from point A to point B. The reason is because if something breaks in between point A and point B, the developer has to know how, why and where. Consequently, debug versions of software are constantly writing logs and doing special checks so that if it breaks, they get information.

All of this is pulled out when the final version is compiled to improve performance. Heck, look at the HP TouchPad. They left in a lot of the software logging and turning it off resulted in a tremendous performance improvement on the tablet.

Pre-production benchmarks are not worth your time worrying about.

I'm not even going to bother clicking the damn link. If a handful of people have the phone and benchmarked it, the variance you can have from such a small sample set does absolutely no justice to what the aggregate result may be.

All this crap before the actual announcement is a waste of energy to get excited about one way or another.

I get the logic of some of you guys pointing to 4460 but couldn't find any official confirmation, not even on Motorola site. Maybe it is 4460 now, but I also saw leaked benchmark indicating 4430 before.

Also did anyone notice it's got non-removable 1780mAh battery? I thought it has removable 1800mAh before.

Excellent explanation. Thanks, Binary. I'm not into benchmarks, but if I was, I'd wait til after release and during the review process.

My understanding is that the all TI OMAP4's have been approved for Netflix HD Streaming?

I have got a great joke for all of you!! The Droid Razr is going to be $299.99 ON CONTRACT! What the heck is the Nexus going to be $600 Is Verizon trying to get everyone to just pay full retail for new devices?!?!?!?

Excellent explanation. Thanks, Binary. I'm not into benchmarks, but if I was, I'd wait til after release and during the review process.

I remember that even mighty SGS2 got lackluster graphic benchmarks by anandtech before it officially launched. Once final retail version came out, it shocked reviewers with blazing speed. So I'm not too worried about this leaked benchmark on Nexus.

Pretty sure the 4460 clocked at 1.5 is intended for tablets, since more space for heat dissipation and bigger battery.

I've seen that a few times, and I don't think it's a necessary conclusion. All three 4430/4460/4470 are pin compatible, and while you're right that they're all 45nm, I believe they're still workable in a phone.

Also don't forget that a 1.5GHz dual-core is only running at 1.5GHz when there's major threads running. Otherwise they clock themselves down or even switch to the onboard ultra-low power M3 cores.

If this phone's speed comes from ICS then there is little point in getting it RIGHT NOW unless you just want to be first. Any phone with similar specs which gets upgraded to ICS will share such benefits. So while they may not be as fast TODAY, once they get updated the GNex advantage is over.

Hit the bullseye there!

Let me sort of veer into another topic. Since the processor topic is being beat to death :) Locked bootloaders....

Does anyone think the bootloader will be unlocked if the Nexus hits Verizon?

$299 seems to be the norm for all LTE phones on Verizon now. I'd be shocked if the Galnexusaurus is more than that. I think it will be the "unwanted" child in the bunch, from Verizon's point of view.

So, I've been reading a lot of the hands-on reviews and watching the videos, and I've got to say that the RAZR is one impressive device. If I'm super disappointed tonight, I don't see a reason to wait for the "next best thing"; I'll probably go the Droid route. I was tired of my OG Droid's boxy design, but the RAZR has a cool angled Star Trek vibe to it.

I just really hope that the event tonight is a hit. It doesn't have to be thinner than the RAZR, it doesn't have to be as pretty. It just has to justify my waiting so freaking long for a new phone.

I think if Verizon wants to continue to carry Android phones, they will bow to the Mighty Google Nexus brand, even though they don't like it. With Google purchasing Motorola, it's not out of the question for them to consider buying a smaller carrier, and keeping Android for themselves. All of that would be a long ways out, but it is in the realm of possibilty, and since Android is the worlds most popular mobile OS, I think we'll see an unlocked Nexus tonight in Hong Kong, which is in China folks, lol.
