I'm loving ICS but the hardware isn't much of a jump over my evo 3d...sigh...hopefully there will be another high end stock ICS phone not too far down the road..

Ahh. Doubting Thomas to the end. I guess I have to admire that about you CK :D.

All I know is every rumor and leak point to VZW, and also that BMX eluded to a Halloween announcement and a 11/3 release. Still lines up pretty well overall, coming from a great trusted source, don't cha think? :)

I don't think the problem is related to it being intended for VZW from the get go so much as high level disagreements and ego conflicts in the 11th hour related to the release. As long as everyone eventually gets past things we are fine and I figure we will be, but if a release plan isn't public REAL soon we are going to have to get REALLY loud. The ONLY reason a release plan can't be announced by the end of this week would HAVE to be related to some high level VZW EGO's that WILL need to be TORN DOWN by US if we don't hear and announcement SOON.

yeah, or ...

It's just what BMX said initially: The plan was to announce on 10/31. Crazy huh? ;)

Pretty sure they mentioned DOCOMO because that was their audience. It almost came off as an off-handed comment.

NOT their Audience. NTT is Japan, they were in Hong Kong, CHINA NOT Japan. It was an Asia event I guess, but they said nothing of actual local carriers to the event. NTT was ONLY mentioned because there are finalized agreements to sell a phone for that network and apparently it's the only network with all things go.

You must remember Nexus is not a standard phone developed to Network specifications. It's more a phone developed for Android and it's developers and now users from the way this announcement went. Most Nexus phones are sold locked and unlocked and aren't really what I would consider devices networks get real excited about. Not matter how good or how much interest there is in a Nexus by us users, Google is trying to force things on networks and compete with networks through these devices and the networks are VERY hesitant to just go with this flow. I'm not really sure how VZW was lured to this Nexus agreement, but it really does see Google has done something behind the scenes that has made VZW hesitant in the last hours of release planning.

I don't understand why the Verizon customers are freaking out. It's stated everywhere that it's launching on Verizon here in the US.

I'm just hoping it comes to T-Mobile; if so, I'm wishing for a Dec launch on it.

Long time VZW customers know how VZW operates. With the crap we heard last week about Isis/Wallet being confirmed by BMX, we all recognize that is EXACTLY the type of thing that Verizon would do, and I'm pretty sure we all believe they would absolutely scrap it if they had half a chance to. That's why we're freaking out.

Everything points to it being VZW, from the promo video to the Samsung site to them saying it would launch on LTE in the US. They still didn't mention Verizon by name, and P3 is right that there's likely a reason for that. It's pretty obvious there's still stuff to be worked out. And no one seems to be saying a word.

Quite frankly you can play the waiting game all the time, because a few months from now, something better is always there.

Precisely. People can sit here and wait for months and months, and never have anything. Theres pros and cons to both sides of the logic, but at a certain point you have to say to yourself enough waiting; And for me this is enough waiting.

If anything you can sell your 'outdated' device anyway in exchange for something new at any point in time.

Ahhhh-nooooouuuunce-mennnt.

Allegedly, Verizon, your situation, for you, would be concurrently improved if I had confirmation you are going to carry this device.

I'm suggesting that people make educated decisions. It's a bit reductive to refer to this as simply the "waiting game". Qualcomm, for instance, is set to release their Krait processor in the first half of 2012. So we're talking anywhere from ~2 months (unlikely) to 8 months (again, unlikely). Realistically, an android phone utilizing the Krait processor would probably be released somewhere in between. With all of the benefits of a a processor node almost half the size of current processors, it would be well worth the wait.

Times are getting tougher and I think it's valuable for everyone to be educated about this kind of thing before dropping ~$300 on antiquated hardware. I'm not promoting the waiting game. I'm promoting longer-term decision making.

And I shall dub thee...Mr. Lord Knowitallwordyguy.

True...there are always other options. That's Android's best feature!

I know that people in this thread are nervous and excited so don't think I'm down playing the GNex but...

IF (damn, that's a big IF) other manufacturers will leave ICS alone, you may have many (and possibly better) hardware options in early 2012 that will offer fast updates and a stock ICS experience. Sucks having to wait if you are eligible for a new phone now but there will be tons of options soon enough.

Early 2012 isn't soon enough for those of us still on an OG Droid unfortunately.

Being with Verizon is like being the mistress to a married guy who keeps telling you he's going to leave his wife and take you away to France. On the surface you believe, but deep down you just can't go all-in.

I can honestly say that I have never felt like that :D

OUTSTANDING post! Extremely well worthy of repeating!

Who is BMX connected through anyhow? He usually seems right on. If that is true, WHO's plan was to announce on 10/31? Google obviously wanted to get ICS info out sooner for whatever reason. I figure the SDK for it and such really did need out now so some apps that just need simple switches to get new goodness can be ready with such goodness for ICS at launch.

I would think VZW would have wanted to be involved in the initial announcement of all this rather than just being some possible carrier somewhere in the world when they have apparently been involved in the development and testing of it all along. All things still seem to point to VZW losing control of stuff they want to control and going ego maniacal and control happy on what Google wanted to do and google just doing their own thing in the end and leaving VZW for a lot less heated announcement later.

Precisely, they did mention it would be sold globally across all markets where there is a demand. So he's essentially telling us that if XYZ carrier does not feel there is s demand for this device they are not going to carry it.

Samsung says the Galaxy Nexus will launch in November, first in the U.S., Europe and Asia, then in other markets.

Tell us which carrier is getting the nexus next month in the US?

He used to work at VZW and now works at Google.
