Fine. Swiftkey X it is. I'm buying it now. If I feel like an idiot or I hate it, I'm charging you guys the full price each, mmmmkay?

I'll PM you guys the paypal deets later.
Amazon had both versions for free (you missed out). I still prefer Swype.

Hey, what ever happened to Steven today? I thought I'd at least get a glare for saying CK was dropping dead. . . didn't he say he was going to be around all day?

I hope he's not crying because his Love Tunnel left.

About the guy asking if he can upgrade early, definitely keep trying and your luck will pan out. Crazier things have happened...

Like with my Droid incredible. Starting around June, it really started to act up and would constantly overheat. Internet? Give it about 5 minutes before rebooting. Navigation? Maybe a minute. Games were also rough, and not to mention, that it would get caught in a power cycle and constantly reboot. I would have to give it a battery pull to fix it. Now, every so often, this battery pull would pretty much delete all app data from my phone. I would be stuck with constant force closes and would have to delete and reinstall my apps. All data regarding these apps were gone as well (I probably played through Cut the Rope like 3 times).

I called around July and they said there was nothing I could do since it was out of the 1-year MFG warranty. I cited that many people were having problems with this exact thing and again, no dice. I called VZW, HTC, and HTC's warranty center with no luck.

The Galaxy Nexus couldn't come soon enough for me. I was praying the Galaxy S II would come to VZW to upgrade to (I've had the upgrade available since late July), and that avenue was closed. I had to restrain myself from getting the Bionic since I was currently working with a crippled phone.

On a whim, I called VZW again on Friday night (at around 10PM), and talked with someone for about 45 minutes. I explained my problems again, was polite, and she said she could send a certified pre-owned for a cost. I said I would just wait for the Nexus, and she suggested an upgrade, while I also declined. All hope seemed lost, but at my darkest hour and about to give up, she said let me check one more thing. I was put on hold for almost 5 minutes, and when she came back, she said after talking with her supervisor, she would send me a replacement at no cost, despite it being out of warranty for almost 3 months.

I got it on Monday, and am loving having a functional phone again, which really helps take away the pressure and anxiousness for this to drop. It also gives me some renewed confidence in Verizon and that there really are people in the company that care about their customers.

A bit of a long-winded response, but I am confident that if you keep calling (especially after its released), you'll be able to upgrade early.

Go Nexus :)

Maybe he is passed out in a hallway somewhere from the lack of sleep waiting for this phone and the pure joy of last nights announcement

And I love the look of it! Very modern and Tron-like. It's sweet indeed. I can't wait.

Modern and 1982-like?!

Alas, I'm feeling a little CK-like also. I know how stupid it is to be disappointed in a 1.2GHz dual-A9 processor, but it just doesn't feel as exciting as I'd hoped. :(

May just wait until Jan or Feb and see what LTE/ICS phone w/removable battery is available by then. Perhaps a nice 1.8GHz 4470 w/better 3D and 2D?

I know this isn't the right place for a random "chances of getting an early phone swap post"

BUT

Would you guys suggest going to VZW and proving that my phone hardware is a POS or trying to call them again until they're so butthurt with me that they give in?

Just wait to call until the phone is available for pre-order. Don't even mention that your current phone isn't working. Threaten to switch carriers. Then order the Nexus. Don't sweat it, you'll be able to get it when all of us do.

Long-winded indeed, but I really appreciate the insight!

My primary concern right now is actually getting a phone that I don't want to whip against the wall. I constantly have to kill things due to "Application Data Low"...I have uninstalled so many damn apps to try to get this fixed that I'm going nuts. As I said before the power button is near death and without it I have to plug the phone into power to get the screen on so I can use the phone. I'm just tired of messing with this thing. I would be happy if they'd send me a free replacement to hold me over, but I feel like I might have to be the squeaky wheel for days until I can get that to pan out.

The problem with application data low isn't the app themselves, but the app data and cache. Go into the apps you have and delete the cache from each one. I had an incredible, and this always solved that problem for me.

MOD Annoucement

Yeah, I think we might need to consider that as a good idea.

Folks - Camera stuff is IMPORTANT.

Please consider that you may want your questions and advice to survive this pre-launch thread - a place where newcomers can go to get the straight dope on the megapixel myth and discuss the cool camera features. Something that we can either sticky later or put into the sticky index (my expectation for the screen tech and processor tech threads, btw).

So - move 'em out (meaning for new posts) so this important stuff doesn't get lost.

Start your own thread, camera lovers and debaters - that's how the big kids roll. :) ;)

Cheers and many thanks!

PS - and please go for it - otherwise, you're asking one of us to perform hours of moving posts after this announcement.

Web isn't any faster for me than for you, yes? :) ;)

Well if that's the case at the same time get rid of all the "is it coming to verizon", "when is it coming to verizon", "has verizon announced it yet" and all of the CPU talk.

It doesn't seem fare that there can be a thousand posts about CPU chatter but nothing about the camera when it too is part of the phone... Heck in most peoples thoughts its more important than the dang CPU.

Trust me, I know. I do it every day or two because this comes up. I've uninstalled some unnecessary apps just so they don't use the mfn 20kb or anything. I'm just tired of doing it and such.

Lighting looks better in the nexus pics.

Yes, and that is because of the drop to 5MP. Probably similar sensor sizes, but 37% fewer pixels = 37% more light into each pixel. WIth the same sensor size, and equal quality lenses, the lower MP will have better low light pics.

No, more like Tron Legacy-like.

Are you a hardcore phone gamer? If so, then you might want to wait for something else. But if you're just into movies, ebooks, surfing, texting, photo-taking, movie-making, and all the other normal stuff that we do with our phones nowadays, you might want to get off the train here.

I don't know, it's not my money. Just do what you want. But I'd suggest at least going to Verizon on drop day and playing around with it a bit. Maybe even download an intensive game on your own phone, go to Verizon, sign in on your google account with the floor model, re-download the game from your marketplace, and play it. See what it's like.

Actually I'd be curious about that.

I think what Early was getting at was that your conversations are pretty important and shouldn't be locked up in this thread once it gets shut down. Not that you're adding clutter.

Just an aside, I saw this on a disucssion about digitizer replacements on the OGD (mine went bad). A dood I was talking with mentioned he had the same problem, but got a refurb for free since he used a credit card that extended his warranty. I called my card co (AMEX) and they offer the same service. worth the effort for expensive devices that take a lot of abuse.

Use Your Credit Cards' Extended Warranty

Honestly - I think you reacted to my post without actually reading it.

If you did read it, I'm not interested in arguing, but I'd suggest you read it again.

If you want to make a separate when is Gnex coming to Verizon thread, that's your prerogative .

How asking for help to preserve information got your ire up escapes me.
