If Sprint released the Evo3D and SGS2 and Photon on the same day which would you pick?

I'm with you on everything but the movie part. More contrast and wider color space can have that effect you speak of, but at the right brightness (and preferably calibrated) it's superior.
The radio problems are a concern though.
Edit: To be clear, there's no way I"m buying this phone at this point. Too much division on the resolution vs. vivid factor for be combined w/ the insult of having to get rid of crap bloatware and dealing with lethargic updaters.
I'm optimistically looking toward the Nexus Prime with Ice Cream @ that 720p super amoled which should (hopefully) be the best of both words.
Years end I hope!

Thanks! Been lurking/reading quite a bit from this forum in anticipation of getting my new phone. The amount of info/reviews has been very helpful. Many of the posts had me looking at things that I never would have without prior knowledge. Great community, with quite a bit of helpful info.

Have you searched Netflix on the epic touch? I'm sorry but between the poor resolution, poor natural color reproduction/over saturation, and even on full brightness, over darkness, I found absolutely nothing preferable about watching movie on the epic touch other than viewing angle and screen size.

no I have not. but i probably wouldn't use netflix as a barometer of it's video playback display worthiness... would try something local (I'm told the Epic has a wider array of codec support) in a proper player.

I heard that too, and felt a little disappointed when the videos recorded from in 2D from my EVO 3D wouldn't play on the Epic Touch. Also a couple of other videos that I played on my computer and saved to SD would also play on the 3D and not the Epic Touch.
However Netflix and Youtube are most likely to be the most widely used forms of video played back and on both I prefer the color and resolution on the 3D. I'm hoping the Amoled HD resolves that issue. Because I must have the Nexus Prime, though I still prefer a factory launcher ( Sense #1, Touchwiz distant #2).
it plays most mpeg 4 part 2 wrapped in .avi container and part 10 (h/x264) HD wrapped in mkv; that's the only video codec/format support that I care about.
agreed on your point about netflix being the most ubiquitous though... wait... what's netflix?

Traded in my Nexus S 4G for a GSII E4GT
The primary reason is the UX (User Experience). The GS2 was the only one I enjoyed actually using. It's responsive, liquid smooth, easy to use and the Super Amoled Plus screen appeals to me the most.
Whatever perks a phone offers, I put a premium on user experience over all else, and most android devices feel clunky, slow, and laggy. The GS2 doesn't and neither does the Nexus S. Sense is okay, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I actually enjoy spending time with an HTC device.
As for the Photon, forget it. The UX is horrible.
As for radio problems. I had a Nexus S 4G, so I know a thing or two about radio problems. The Radio problems in the Nexus S 4G are hideous. I have none of those issue with the GS2. It's a beast

I personally have and prefer the Evo3D. I just got the E4GT for my son. Haven't had much time to mess with it yet, but here are a couple of my impressions off the bat. The screen looks very nice. Personally, I think everything about the screen is too bright. Not just the backlight, but the colors themselves. Obviously this is a personal preference. Some people probably think it makes it nicer. To me, it is jarring.
More importantly to me, is the reception. The E4GT seems to have terrible reception. I realize you can't really compare the two phones based just on the bars, since they may both calculate the bars differently. In this case though, he is lucky to have a single bar while my Evo3D sitting next to it has 2 or 3 bars. We don't have great signal in our house. What amazes me though, is the wireless antenna. On my Evo3D my wife signal is full. His has only one or two bars, and fluctuates a lot, dropping connection several times while I was browsing the web.
Also, I'm not really liking the UI so far. I'm not making a final judgment on the UI yet. Some of it is probably just because it is different from what I am used to. I can't even put my finger on what it is that I don't like yet. I will say though, that the actual icons etc in the UI look quite nice.

Deffinently been looking at the ups and downs to rooting. I would probably be interested in bringing the frame rate up along with a (slight) bump to the processor with a overclock.

Hundreds of people with LOS (loss of signal) issues. Seems Samsung continues to only care about sales numbers. They never support any phone they release, not even the Nexus ones. Samsung phones are the DIVAS of the world, gorgeous on the outside, but lacking in all of the useful areas.

HTC EVO 3D! Hands down! I love this phone. I owned an Epic 4G when it first came out, then went to the Evo 4G. I just got the 3D 3 days ago. It'll be a cold day in hell before I ever buy a Samsung phone again!! Thats for sure!

And while everyone else around you that does not own a Samsung phone will be getting updates on a regular basis....well....i'll be here laughing.
Besides, I get an upgrade every 6 months, so when quad-core phones start coming out, I still wont give a crap about Samsung or its Nexus Prime. Quad Core phones will blow it away!

But wasn't the SGS2 supposed to be the best phone right now? Lol, it's like the carrot on a stick! Always so close, yet just out of reach. These threads are both informative and amusing. One device is never going to be the be all, end all.
Fwiw, a couple of weeks ago I used an upgrade to get the NS4G. A very nice phone, pure Google, and free. I happen to like it a lot. The true test came, though, when we went to a family reunion at Standing Stone State Park, which is out in the boonies. My EVO 3D had both phone and 3G service. The NS4G had phone service only. Of course, that was still better than our AT& T family members, who had no service at all. We had two teenaged girls willing to do dishes and cleanup duty in exchange for the privilege of using our phones
Anyway, my point is, I understand why people are unhappy with Samsung and say they have a poor radio. I am usually in good to excellent coverage areas so I didn't notice until we went out of town. For my primary device, I will probably stay away from Samsung, no matter what the so-called pro reviewers say. They basically said the EVO 3D is garbage and based on my personal experience that could not be further from the truth.

The EVO 3D is a great phone I wasn't necessarily saying that the Samsung Galaxy S2 was the best phone (even though technically it is because it did win T3 phone of the year) But I was trying to make the point that if Samsung did create the best phone in the world... He would be missing out just because his Epic was shitty...
PS I had an Epic that was somewhat shitty too but the SGS2 is still on 100 more levels than that and definitely still leads in speed and features

And most likely Samsung will make another chipset that is quad-core and will blow away every other chipset (again) just like the Exynos. You can't deny Samsung will most likely always have the best hardware. But it's pretty ignorant to say that you won't use another Samsung phone just because one Samsung phone you had was crap... My Moment was crap... But I didn't swear off all Samsung phones... I got the Hero and that was a good phone then I got the EVO and it was good but I traded it for the Epic and it had its problems but I still got the SGS2 because it suits my needs better than the 3VO (Faster browser, bigger screen, Super Amoled, Zero lag on everything, better camera, lighter, thinner, screen won't shatter on first drop [something I witnessed with a friend's 3VO]) But all in all, we are both very happy with our phones

All we really have to go on is our own experiences in making choices, whether it is in buying a phone, buying a car, or anything else. My parents only drive Chevrolets because they have had good luck with them. One of my best friends would not own a Chevrolet if it were given to him because he happened to get a lemon once. It is human nature to follow the adage, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Why keep touching the hot stove? I don't blame people who have had bad experiences for staying away from that product.
The last Samsung phone before the NS4G that we owned was the M520 a few years ago. Mine worked just fine, however, my husband had to have his replaced three times. Fast forward. After messing around with it instore, I liked the NS4G and it was free with a full upgrade, so I thought I would give it a try. I figured it would get regular updates unlike other Samsung devices because it is a Google phone and I wanted to try "pure" Android. Overall I like it (was very easy to unlock the bootloader and root ) but am glad that I held out another month for the EVO 3D instead of paying $199 for the NS4G when it first was released in May. I was very disappointed that it did not get 3G when the EVO 3D did. Supposedly the EVO 3D was the phone with horrible reception and connectivity. Now, did I get the rare perfect EVO 3D and the rare defective Samsung? I don't know. All I can do is base my opinions on my experience. I have not had any issues with HTC products but have with Samsung. So, unless I get it for a really good deal, I will probably steer clear of Samsung phones. Too bad they don't make their phones like they do their other electronics.

That is not true, as a consumer your best way to speak is with your wallet. Samsung continues not to support their products and continue to release phones that are defective at doing the basic tasks. They are the spec queens of the industry and the phones of every generation let more and more people down while the specs (like your chipset) hardly make a difference in real world usage.
We went through this Galaxy best phone in the world stuff last year, and the end result was a phone with a pretty face that frustrated the heck out of it's users. And here we see history is repeating itself. And as usual Samsung will respond by doing what they usually do. NOTHING!!!! But put out a new phone for people to buy hoping that nothing will be wrong with it either.
I agree that samsungs post-release support for their phones is not good. I'm not buying until they fix the LOS issue on the epic touch... which is the same stance I took last year when they couldn't get the GPS fixed on the galaxy phones.
However, I disagree with your comment about real world differences not being noticeable. Browsing is the only thing I do on my phone where I am always annoyed by the slow speed. The speed difference of the epic touch compared to every other phone I've used is very noticeable especially when browsing desktop websites.
