If Sprint released the Evo3D and SGS2 and Photon on the same day which would you pick?

Which phone if all 3 on the same day ?

When people say they want the Motorola for all it offers.

What exactly is that?

Has the ability to dock it even been announced?

Do people look at the specs of the 3Vo beyond the 3D?

The Photon is a world phone. For those that need that feature, it's a pretty big draw. In addition motorola has been trying to position themselves as a good choice for enterprise use... supporting encryption, vpn, the webtop for travelers, etc..

The droid X I had was a top notch phone. Excellent build quality, very good call quality and good battery life. They do know how to make phones.

For the enthusieast market they aren't quite as friendly since they still have a locked/signed/encrypted bootloader. Most of the motorola android's have been rooted and folks have been able to load different ROM's but you can't replace the kernel so it limits how much the devs can do.

...and motoblur is not as good as sense or touchwiz. Luckily, on android, software is easy to replace.

On the E3D... yes there has been way too much emphasis on the 3D aspects. It got panned in a number of reviews due to the reviewer looking at just that one feature. With or without 3D the E3D is a very good phone... there's a reason there's no clear cut winner between these 3 phones.

My suggestion would be to go in the store to try the Evo 3d first. I was on the verge of upgrading to the 3d, but the photon was announced, so I decided to hold off. after the 3d was released, I went into the store to test the 3d. I quickly realized 3d was not for me. I've always had slight issues playing 1st person video games and holograms. Even when I was not using the 3d, you could see the screen effects that after a while made me dizzy.

Now, aside from that, I liked what the 3d had to offer, but the photon on paper has more things beneficial to my needs. And definitive spec that sold me was kickstand. The photon is geared towards business folks that also want a device that'll be useful in personal life.

These are the factors (I also posted in the Photon forums) that are pulling me away from the EVO line and right now big reasons I've pretty much decided to upgrade to the Photon 4G.

- 16gb internal storage w/ microSD slot as well
- kickstand
- World Phone
- ability to manage/edit microsoft office documents w/o downloading additional app.
- laptop docking capability
- No 3D (well, this is just a personal thing for me because I didn't like the 3D effect, even viewing the screen in 2D, I noticed and it made me dizzy)
- Lighter than EVO 3D (This factor is important to some, not necessarily for me)
- Better projected talk time than EVO 3D. 10 hours of talk time vs. 7 or 8 hours for EVO 3D.
- 8 megapixel rear camera
- More ergonomic due to angular edges.
 
Having tried the evo3d in the stores; I'm definitely going to wait for the photon and sg2. My gut feeling (esp if the photon is locked) is I'll end up with the sg2; but in all truth it is easy to speculate without actually trying the phone. My view might change once the phones are in the stores and I can play with them.

Not me... Mine was stolen the first day I swapped it out for my 3DVO. Bought the 3DVO, immediately went to grab lunch, left the Touch Pro 2 and my 3DVO box under the car seat, came back 15 minutes later and both the box, 3DVO charger and Touch Pro 2 were gone. Good thing I brought the phone with me. Otherwise I would have been majorly screwed. So I ended up going right back to Sprint and buying an accessory charger. The guys there thought I was kidding, but sadly I wasn't...

Fastest... Robbery... Ever.... :(
 
I'm probably going to end up with both phones (3VO and SGSII) to be honest. Will sell my OG when the SGS II comes out and just buy it outright. I have a gadget problem.

My question is this, if you buy a phone outright on sprint (off contract), do you still get 30 days to take it back if you don't like it?
 
Last night I got the nexus s and I just can't stand how pixelated the screen looks. Idk maybe mine is defective but I'm wondering if I should just get the 3d. Has anyone had both? Which did you choose and why?

This is my first Android phone, and I bought the 3DVO purely for its 3D features. But besides that, it's an absolutely great phone to have.

From a daily operating standpoint, there isn't anything about it that I can say that I don't like, other than the occasional "no signal" situation. But that's common with most phones. Overall, the 3DVO has gone above and beyond my initial expectations. And if you so choose to use the 3D feature, my suggestion would be to upload as many movies as you can... Avatar in 3D is simply stunning.

Yes you can still take it back within 30 days if you buy the phone outright. But you may have to pay a $35.00 restocking fee.
 
Any of you who pledged the S II, and if so, any problems w/ the Sprint Version thus far? I'd like to pull the trigger, just dong last minute due diligence.

I have no problems whatsoever on this phone. GPS locks quicker than 3VO. Signal strength and data speeds are better than 3VO. Super Amoled Plus even with the low resolution still looks better than the 3VO's screen. Viewing angles and view outside is better. Call quality is better. Speaker and earpiece are louder. It's thinner. Camera blows the 3VO's out of the water. It's smoother and faster than any phone out. There's nothing better.

The only slight problem that everybody is having is that the Social Hub that integrates Twitter, Facebook, Messaging, EMail, etc. doesn't work. But that's a very small problem compared to the problems the Photon and 3VO had. I'm sure Samsung will send an update to fix it though.
 
Well I have both. 3VO and GS2. The GS2 is a fine device. But ain't no 3VO. I'm addicted to sense. Now if i can easily port a sense rom in place of touch jizz. I just may reconsider. BUT HTCs build quality is top notch.
 
i think they are both fine phones on the cover... i've been digging around in the galaxy s2 area in hopes of finding anything blatantly wrong so as not to fool myself twice like I did w/ a previous sammy device. i don't care about the touch wiz aspect (or sense for that matter) as I'll be removing it for a custom ROM.
 
also, i have seen some previous evo3d users jump ship to the galaxy s2, but phones are about personal preference. I love my evo 3d and looks like the galaxy s2 has the exact same issues the the ed did and photon did, a dual core phone is not going to get good batt life without tweaks. Now, a lesser ui will consume less power but still touchwiz and sense are pretty beefy, so again it comes down to what you like. I personally love sense and find that HTC produces a higher quality device. Samsung has their hand in a lot of pots and is a major corp. but the epic 4g was just a bad idea, and a company that big that produces 1 bad egg will produce another.
 
Samsung makes very nice "plastic" phones. The Galaxy S II series is also a very nice phone, very fast. However, like mentioned in this thread, it is personal preference.

For me personally, I dont trust Samsung when it comes to OS updates. They dont have a good record of keeping thier phones current. Thats my issue. It defeats the whole purpose of having a nice phone when Google releases new Android OS updates but you dont get it.

Also Samsung has a bad reputation when it comes to sending any patches to fix known problems with their phones. So I stick with HTC who is consistantly the first to update thier phones when new Android OS updates are released.

Additionally, the thing with Android phones are what you perfer in the phone. To "Keep it real"...lol, most (duel core) phones being released right now pretty much do the samething, it usually depends on the operator and what he/she does with their phone. The only major difference in each phone is the users preference when it comes to the Manufactures Android overlay (ie. HTC Sense, Touch wiz, LG, Moto blur or whatever they call it now).

However, the best thing about Android is that its Open Source. So no matter what phone a user purchases he/she can root it and/or load home replacment apps to duplicate the actions of another phone.
 
God I would have agreed that I would stick with the Evo 3D a couple of days ago.

But last night my Evo 3D (stock) suffered the black screen of death, and I couldn't fix it without a factory reset, wiping out all my date. :mad:

I truly wish now that I had the SGSII. My Samsung Epic 4G never did that.

I am going to root my Evo 3D but now I am very paranoid about my Evo 3D going bad on me and leaving me stranded.

My Evo 3D died at the worst time, on a business trip.
 
Must be nice to jump ship from one latest phone to the next, haha! I still have a Hero and am STILL under 2 year contract. I reckon those doing this just sell phone A as a no contract, then use money to buy new phone at retail yes? That's awesome if so.

Regarding Samsung 'plastic phone' there's no question the build quality is better in the Photon (#1) and the Evo (#2); Floss points that out well (and is an amusing review of these 3 great phones:

As far as battery life as a stock retail phone, every review i've read is glowing of the Galaxy s2 epic's battery life relative to the 3vo and photon, as are virtually everyone on the board here on androidforums on virtually anything about the phone. further, the fact that touchwiz is beefy is a testament to the fantastic processor because there seems to be absolutely ZERO lag.

Also, many reviewers (inc. floss) indicate the camera in the sgs2 is superior, and its a faster phone. The kicker is NO GPS Problems! Personally, I love that it plays so many video formats/codecs out of the box.

As far as updates, I care more about what's being released at XDA so yes, the carrier releasing a workable ROM is a concern for cooking... I guess I'm just going to hope that's Samsung's open-ness with this phone will transcend to faster major point releases of Android as it is their flagship phone.

again, it's exterior is cheap, but it's interior is arguably the best Android phone out right now. Guess I'll just have to be careful not to drop it as I am very much resolved to getting a SSGII!
 
my 1st paragraph question is more relevant then ever (though slightly OT) as Sprint has effectively eliminated early full upgrade eligibility to existing customers effective July 30th 2011. Prior to that, customers could simply call, speak w/ retention and be allowed an early full upgrade. After a LONG, TUMULTUOUS wait over the phone and multiple departments, I've learned this is no longer the case.

Sad really... we're only talking 3 months here and I'd be buying 3 new phones and adding a line. Seems in Sprint's best interest to allow it. I think this plethora of new super smartphones has gone to their head. Perhaps they forget that still trail Verizon and ATT's customer base by a wide margin. :(

Thinking about just buying a SGSII for $530 and selling it when I don't want it. Shouldn't be hard to recoup most of that as long as I don't break it, haha!
