SSShhhhhhhhh...we don't have to get THAT started do we? Besides, I'm a MIT guy. My brother went to UT Law, thus the rooting (football not phone) interest! This has hijack written all over it, so I'm letting it go and taking a deep breath...:)

LOL! fair enough. besides, neither one of us has much talkin' to do this year...

No, that sounds like a corporate store. If they're a "Verizon Wireless" store, and not "Random Joe Bob's Wireless", then they're a corporate store.

The fact that it's not in Cellebrite at your location sounds disconcerting.

Definitely says Verizon Wireless in the signage out front, not Joe Bob's or some variant of that. Doesn't mean it's not a reseller, just pointing it out.

There's plenty of reasons why VZW wouldn't want Samsung/Google to announce it.

Maybe Verizon wants to announce it themselves? On their own schedule? So it doesn't conflict with their other upcoming launches? They did just announce a phone earlier that day.

They have an agenda and its quite likely Samsung/Google's timeline doesn't match with their timeline. So we wait...it's really not a big deal.

The Bionic was literally announced officially the day before it released.

And for the last time regarding the bootloader....THERE ARE PLENTY OF DEVICES ON VERIZON WITH UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS.
Stop being logical... thats not allowed here

KINDA OFFICIAL NOTICE:

I sense the folks are on the warpath.. it usually happens this time of night for some reason. I don't mind dissent, but don't get personal. You see, I got this knife in my hand and Imma use it. :)

Steven

if that was directed at me and burntorange, not to worry. he and i are very friendly and go way back across various forums - it's all in good fun (especially since he has bragging rights over me countless times over)! :D

For fear of being slapped by a mod, and thus against my better judgement I'll add:

We're young. Very young. Like 18 freshmen who get quality minutes young. Not a question of IF we'll be good, just WHEN. So far, they beat the teams they should beat and have lost to the teams they should lose to...so I'm not sure yet what to think!

I completely agree with that, especially the part re: bragging rights!!!

Oh no he di unt, oh yeah he did!

I have a couple of questions for all the good folks out there, oh and you folks using this forum too (ba dum bum) ;)

I'm coming from the INC and TB to hopefully get this phone. Was going to get the Vigor all along, but decided I wanted a change, so I'm looking forward to this. Can anyone out there tell me some specific differences I'm going to feel going from Sense to a Nexus. Keep in mind, Sense is all I know so don't feel bad dumbing your answers down. My other question is this, one thing I love about my TB is that when browsing the internet, if I double tap the page it re-sizes everything for me and fits all the words onto the page so I only have to scroll down and not side to side. Is that specific to Sense or not? Thanks in advance.

can't talk now - too busy licking my wounds... :p

Sorry HK...I suppose it doesn't help to add that my wife went to Wisconsin, does it? Yeah, she talks funny..."and I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper." No one please say that's North Dakota, not Wisconsin, I'm aware of it...just sounds the same!!!

FWIW
I can confirm with my own eyes that there is (currently, anyway) no Samsung i515 (or Galaxy Nexus or any other variant) in the cellebrite machines in indirect VZW retailer locations, nor any equipment training available. The cellebrite was updated last weekend with the latest info in preparation for the iPhone 4S launch.

Indirect locations ususally don't get ANY information until after an official announcement, however.

Quick answer. Sense is WAY more involved in your experience. It dictates every aspect of your phone. Take your Clock (or World Clock) for example. It has world clocks, it has alarm clocks, it has a stopwatch, it has a kitchen timer for your boiling eggs. Best way I could describe it is in MB. When I flash a custom ROM w/ Sense for my T-bolt, the size of the zip file ranges from 280-315 MB. When I flash an AOSP ROM it's about 75 MB, give or take. So there's literally around 4x the STUFF in Sense as in pure AOSP. What that means from a practical standpoint is that your battery gets destroyed at a much faster rate because Sense has about a gazillion widgets and apps automatically updating all the time in the background if you don't turn them all off - and few people do, I'm sure. There are literally hundreds of answers, so I won't continue, but you probably get the picture. There are apps all over the market that do for you what Sense does. Some people like CHOOSING the apps themselves and not being force fed, some people just like to eat and don't care where it comes from. Hope that helps.

That browser functionality you described is standard from my experience with the stock browser. I've heard that the browser in Sense is better in other ways, but the double-tap zoom and word wrap functionality you described is exactly how CM7.x works on my OG Droid(and the vanilla-ish Froyo I had on it before rooting/ROMing).

Everything else was covered by burntorangefan.

This certainly helps. I at least have an idea now. So, with that logic, I could conceivably need to download a ton more apps onto the nexus if I want it to have some of the depth of my current TB? But probably in the end...I have more junk on my phone now that I don't really even need?

Honestly, I almost don't care anymore. If they get it, great, if not, then there should be some other models around the corner.

I'm using Dolphin now on my TB, that would behave the same on the Nexus, right?

The only reason why I ask is my classroom was selected to pilot iPads, so I have 4 of them and don't enjoy the experience so much. When I pinch and zoom or double tap I still have to scroll side to side and that can be a pain.

No, that sounds like a corporate store. If they're a "Verizon Wireless" store, and not "Random Joe Bob's Wireless", then they're a corporate store.

Some resellers are allowed to hide their real company name and present themselves VERY much like they are VZW. Think they are supposed to be labelled Premium Reseller or something along those lines if so though. I learned this the hard way buying a phone on vacation from a store that seems 100% verizon, but later found out Premium Reseller is not just a different VZW store type, but third party allowed to pose as VZW more or less 100%, but who also is your only point of service for the device returns and such. The company that owned that store would even call me months later inquiring about my service with VZW as if they WERE Verizon and not a 3rd party.

Mercy! Those guys wanting to ban the "If its Coming to Verizon" posts, how is that working for you? Heh!
CK a doubting Thomas? Hm? I see him more as a fish that won't bite.

Sure, I think that's a fair assessment. I'd ask yourself how often you use, in my example above, the world clock or the timer or the stopwatch...I only use my alarm clock from the Clock App. If I wanted a world clock, there are probably 1,000 of them in the market. I couldn't say a "ton" because I don't know how many of the functions you typically use...But you're definitely on the right track. You'll find the scrolling and speed of a launcher not named Rosie (like ADW Ex, for example), is WAY smoother and faster. It's just streamlined.

Yep, spot on. Dolphin and Dolphin HD are available in the Market. As are MANY other options, so you're on the right track.

Yeah, if you're using Dolphin, you're already using a non-stock browser, and you shouldn't see much difference from device to device. There *might* be some compatibility issues right after ICS comes out, but I'd imagine Dolphin would fix anything like that very quickly.

I work in online education; iPads are a thorn in my side, so I can sympathize. Online curriculum relies too much on Flash ;)
