Yes.

Hans Olo is not only a viable name, Hans is one of the most popular first names for the Olo surname.

So...Hans over there better get used to it, because I am forever going to refer to him as hans Olo.

This is huge news.

Wow! Got off work at 1 and it took quite some time to read all the posts that I missed. Went to work thinking there was issues with the g-nex and am now very happy that Steven came through with some good news to ease the pain that p3 is causing and stirring up. All I have to say is karma can be a b----. Its not gonna be long, if he keeps acting like he is, that people are gonna figure him out. If they already haven't.

Thank you for sharing the info Steven. The fact that you share that info that you are given speaks volumes to the type of person you are. Stand up guy!! And not to leave the other mods out, you all do a great job. This forum is the beez neez!! Thanks, to the source or love tunnel(whichever) for the latest morsel of happiness.

Here's a lengthy video review with some decent close-ups of the screen. Bonus: if you speak Italian (I do not) you might even learn something whilst drooling!

Video Anteprima Samsung Galaxy Nexus by batista70phone

Thanks for the vid.

Well, I'm not Italian and I learnt something. Go to 7:15 in the video and you will see that in ICS on the GN, fullscreen video playback utilizes all 4.65" which is just swell.:D Hopefully, game developers and other developers also choose to do this in their apps, if functional.

I still cannot figure out why they (Samsung/Google) left so much space between the bottom of the screen and the bottom of the device though. Not whinging, just curious.

Wow. I just don't understand what is happening. The star of the show is ICS 4.0, not the Nexus. I don't want to be a killjoy, but this phone is in the merely adequate category right now. The display is not Amoled Plus, the battery is relatively small, and the processor is old. If another manufacturer had a kickass phone with 4.0, we would be turning towards it and not Nexus. Unfortunately, it is the only game in town right now. Early adopters will be paying a price in regard to their ETF. Next summer/fall will have much, much better phones around with a maturing OS. It would have been such a coup if Samsung had delivered a world class phone right now. I don't know why they didn't.

Jesus.

Hey guys... THIS IS THE SECOND FASTEST PROCESSOR ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW. There is exactly one Android phone that performs better on benchmarks. One. And you do know that processor selection is not completely about number crunching, right? For mobile devices, it's about how the system functions as a whole, which includes things like battery life...

Since when is that "old"?

Oh, and there is no SAMOLED+ of this resolution now. So... yeah.

To continue on binary visions' lead...
So how long will it be before the Nexus is revealed as a 4430 also?
TI's OMAP head says it's 4460: Sweet Fact: Android 4.0 runs on the OMAP platform - Mobile Momentum - Blogs - TI E2E Community

Note that they brag up the programmable image/video encoder/decoder hardware quite a bit. More info on it here: Ducati For Dummies - OMAPpedia The image capture hardware and the image/video encoder/decoder hardware share their own Cortex-M3 core. Other SoCs from this generation throw hardware at image/video encoding/decoding and the camera sub-system, but not this much (as far as I can tell). Not Apple, not Samsung. Anadtech hasn't quite jumped on the PenTile hate boat quite yet and actually seem optimistic: AnandTech - Confirmed: Galaxy Nexus Includes PenTile
Brian Klug & Jason Inofuentes said:
I wager that if you were satisfied with the pixel density of SGS2 that the pixel density Galaxy Nexus actually won't be off-putting despite the presence of PenTile.
I'm optimistic, too.

And I'm still excited.:p

Man, took the kids to the county fair last night, looks like I missed a good night. Thanks Steven and source for putting our minds at ease (well at least those who still had doubts, I am not included). How awesome would an 11/3 date be? That is less than 2 weeks away!

When I get ready to walk into a Verizon store and pick up my Galaxy Nexus, can I have them hand me the unopened box and a 4G SIM card? I just want to pay for the device and be on my merry way.

Two weeks ago my wife dropped her OG Droid for the final time and we replaced it with the Bionic. The rep spent 30min+ trying to set the phone up during which time she kept insinuating that we needed insurance (a scam, save your own pennies each month...) screen covers (don't have a single scratch on OG w/o cover) a case (I wanted an Otter Box for her) and car charger items. I addition she tried to get us to sign up for the Verizon services on the phone to which I responded "No, I don't want that crap on there." I know that a lot of it is part of her training and Verizon enforced process, but I just want to walk in, slap down my money, and walk out with my toy. No nonsense.

I realize that the Nexus won't have the bloatware, but I want to deal with the rep as little as possible. I want my experience to be the same as if I had ordered my phone online with the only exception being that the box came out of a store instead of a UPS truck.

I'm fully capable of configuring the device myself, probably even more so than the rep.

Can I request this?

Buy it from Best Buy or Online

Buy it from Best Buy or Online

Might do it online but won't know if that's an option until a solid release date is announced. Going out of town soon and want to make sure that it isn't delivered after I leave.

Would love to get reward zone points with purchase, but I don't think Best Buy honors the new every 2 credit. Do you know otherwise?

Another nice little writeup by Josh Topolsky... I never thought I would hear him say some of the stuff he is about Android.

Google’s new Galaxy Nexus: a phone with a soul - The Washington Post

Go figure it from a DC news article. The phone is so popular around and I still have yet to figure out why. When it was just AT&T that had that pos I had people trying to show it off to me in my office building and the thing couldn't hold a connection. Then I would ask how the call quality was and I would get a blank stare.

At least with verizon some of the sheep have noticed better connection all around but they still lose calls where im stable all day long. Go figure

They did when i bought my Dx :) plus you can sit down while they do paper/computer work :P at least at our Best Buy

Seriously, you just have to be firm with the reps. It is their job to make sure the customer is happy (i.e. not coming back in six hours later complaining that the phone isn't set up right) and accessories are high profit margin so they'll try to sell you on some of those, too.

All you have to say is, firmly, "I would like to set this up, myself, at home." Insist if they give you any grief. You are buying something, it is YOURS. Just be firm and polite, and I'm sure you won't have any trouble at all.

If they're fussing with the phone for 20 minutes, it's because nobody said, "No. I don't want you to do that."

Honestly, I almost don't care anymore. If they get it, great, if not, then there should be some other models around the corner.

I have to say...each passing day is getting easier to avoid checking in to see if there is news on GNex. I'm starting to care less as well :-(

Edit: Lesson #1 - read Steven's posts from the previous night, before posting in the morning. :-)

I would second the Best Buy suggestion. I have purchased 2 and exchanged one phone there and you get the NE2 credits as well as reward zone points. They pushed no accessories and the last two times I just set the phone up myself in the store. I think the big thing to remember is that whether in BB, a Verizon store, or a reseller it all boils down to who happens to be working there.

Also wanted to say thanks to Steven and the souce. I feel like I spend hours reading this thread for 10 sec of "credible" information. It appears that p3droid is looking to stir the pot and get attention. Maybe if we just stopped talking about him he would go away. I mean what has he ACTUALLY told us that is useful.

Just a thought...

Steven,

I just wanted to check in, solely because of all the negativity surrounding the possible release/cancellation of the Verizon version of SGN.

I talked with 4 different (Verizon) people today,(information deleted) and all say that Verizon is DEFINITELY getting this device in "early November". I can't say if it's the 3rd or the 10th, because I honestly don't know, but I haven't been told that the date of the 3rd has changed. That could go either way. But it will DEFINITELY hit stores early November. (Information deleted) Spoke to a recent tester of the device, and he/she says that there is NO PROBLEM with 4G connectivity, and he's not sure where that rumor came from.

You're not going to see anything resembling the push that RAZR is going to get with marketing, but it will be in stores. Early November.

Hope that helps.

It's a good day in the neighborhood! Mangia Bene!

Steven note: My words are in italics, to protect the source.

Steven, you and your source always come through when we need you to. It's not always when we want you to, but it is when we need it, so

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

That hurt. I apologize if I come off as arrogant. I really care about you guys and I love phones. Regarding the Messiah attitude, do you think that perhaps the reason I care so deeply about people is that I'm an ordained minister? I was people's pastor for many years. It was drilled into me to care.

However, if I do come off negatively, I do apologize. :(

I was referring to P3 not you Steven. I may have quoted wrong. I would never think that of you.

I appreciate everything you do.for us here. Also thank you to all the posters which spoke up saying I wouldn't be like that and the other nice things that were said.

That means you too Hans Olo ;)
