***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Yeah, Apple is doomed.

:D Forgive me, but I have a feeling that the company is fine, and that the heads there will come around to some screen size changes for their iPhones, just a tweak larger, and maybe even a removable battery on a model or two in order to draw even more interest from Android users.

Stuff like that.

Meanwhile.. yay for Nexus. :p

Nothing will more quickly yield irrelevancy than Apple's current tactic of litigation over innovation. With the introduction of the 4S, they have guaranteed themselves to be over a full year behind android when the iPhone 5 rolls around. Part of it was bad luck, LTE came out too late in the 4S development cycle and was not mature enough (for Apple's standards anways). But if they stick to their normal schedule, Verizon's LTE network will be nearly fully established, and AT&Ts will be up and running competitively in larger markets. Last time Android had an exclusive on Verizon, it allowed them to get a foothold in the market, and have now expanded to a greater market share overall. To give them another exclusive (LTE) for a year... they will quickly become the niche market they are in PCs.

Good morning SGN'ers and happy monday.

Here is to a Monday filled with leaks and other new info! *fingers crossed*

Hope everyone had an exciting weekend.

Well it depends on the price of the unlocked phone -- if it's more than $600 then that is a good price to pay for the phone. If its less than $600 then this guy gets some extra money for "being first" and tricking people who don't read the full description.

The listing says it will be shipped "as soon as it is launched". So why pay the seller's mark-up? He's looking for easy targets who are anxious to part with their money. I don't think you're one of them :)

EDIT: Three posts in a row? Am I the only one here? Come on, people, TYPE ALREADY! :p

Nah! Just got the coffee and sat in. eBay eh! Sure - Sure....... go ahead folks. Be brave.

Haha, between 8-9am I was the only person to post...

As an Australian, that is definitely not considered expensive at 640USD because local online retailers have the SGN 16GB for pre-order $830+ (AUD not USD).

In fact, the cheapest you can find a SGS2 on ebay these days is $550 so the price is definitely not the problem (maybe it is for people in the US).

What's more interesting about the link is the fact that he confirms the existence of a 32GB HSPA+ version...no other retailer has done this. I'll probably just keep an eye on the listing and if it gets taken down within the next week then I'll assume it was a scam. If not, I will pounce.

BTW, just out of curiosity, how does it work with carriers in the US? So, how much is the minimum monthly spend for data+calls+text when on contract?

What are we expecting on Tuesday?

Well, if the posts I read are to be believed, we're (well, I'm) expecting a launch date from Verizon tomorrow. Maybe I read the posts completely out of context... I don't know... but there are still some pieces of this puzzle missing and Verizon needs to fill in the blanks:

16GB or 32GB?
Launch Date?
Subsidized or not?
Size of the battery?

Once we have THOSE answers, all we can really do is gossip about specs and bean-dip in this thread until the first person picks one up in the store :)

Do you think it is possible that Verizon doesn't subsidize this phone, even after that leaked MAP document?

Not a chance.

With the release of the iPhone 4s they've clearly spent more time and money on litigation than innovation. Suing in hopes of cutting off the competition is their only option for staying on top at this point.

Or maybe they thought, hey we can make a couple more billion by putting a couple better chips in the phone we already had, put a better camera in it too, and slap on siri and sell millions more, then we'll introduce something completely different looking in a year and do the same thing over again, and keep printing money.

That's what the unveiling video demonstrated. They also said music controls would be in the notifications menu, which would, effectively, give us lockscreen music controls. It would be really nice if the lockscreen wallpaper defaulted to album art if music was playing, though I don't think that will happen.

Yep, just went back and found it around the 29:30 mark. Must have missed it originally when I was watching it live from my ipad in bed.

It would be marketing suicide not to subsidize this phone: they would lose untold MILLIONS (or fail to make it). I forgot about the MAP, which may or may not be real. Until we hear it straight from Big Red, it's still speculation.

Anyone got any news on the battery life of the Nexus, can't seem to find anything anywhere.

Likewise, any info on the release of the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD outside of Korea. I would post this in the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD forum, but I couldn't find it.

I'm not normally one to pass up on a device because there are rumours something better is coming out, because inevitably you end up waiting months. But if the S2 HD is literally just around the corner, with the previously suggested Nexus specs, i.e. 1.5Ghz proc, 8MP Cam and same screen etc, then it would be nice to weigh up the options.

I feel there is approximately a 0% chance this phone is carried by Verizon unsubsidized. They would sooner cancel the phone and not sell it at all I believe.

Yeah, those MAP lists are way too easy to fake for me to take them at face value.

I agree with this. If Verizon starts carrying any phones at all unsubsidized, they open up all sorts of ugly conversations. Like not offering a cheaper plans and such.

I think what you're referring to is the Love Tunnel saying that they were going to announce they were carrying it on Tuesday, but because of the grassroots campaign, they did it on Friday. Some assumed that if they had waited til Tuesday, they would've included a release date, but since they did it Friday, they decided to hold off.

I don't see the logic in this. An extra 4 or 5 days doesn't make a difference, in my opinion. I don't think we'll get a release date until after the RAZR starts pre-order selling this Thursday. So I'm betting on Friday being the release-date announcement.
