Google BUZZ better work on 1.5

I don't usually post negative stuff about my phone because I am decently happy with my Eris... But I'm getting tired of feeling like I got the sh*tty end of the deal by getting the Eris. I got it because I didn't like the Moto Droid's keyboard, and like the compact size of the Eris... But I didn't think it would be that far behind from the Moto Droid on things :-( If you go to buzz. google. com, you can see that even the iPhone has support for Google Buzz and I believe with the new Maps too if I'm not mistaken. *sigh*

I'm really becoming annoyed with verizon. I bought my eris a few weeks ago, and every day I see site after site displaying google's new features, but my GOOGLE PHONE can't use them. I'm at the point where I just don't care about sense or HTC's addons. Sense only slowed down my phone, so now I use the stock android home screen. I'd like to also use the stock lock screen rather than HTC's, but then I need to be root, which is not possible on the eris either. Verizon and HTC, just push out the damn update already. EVERYTHING is getting at least 1.6 except for us.

Here's my theory Dogmatist

not only do i think you hit the nail on the head. But took the nail, and drove it straight to the center of the earth at the speed of light.

Hopefully one day someone will open up one of these phones and be able to upgrade such things as processor and memory. BUT with ROOT we really don't need to worry about the latest upgrades cause our Devs will keep us well up to date with roms and such.

not entirely true, you'll probably never see it on 1.5, but apparently 1.6 can get the maps upgrade (it's in the market). 1.5 mostly had maps preinstalled and thus can't be updated to get the buzz layer.
true, maps 4.0 works on 1.6 along with the Buzz layer. The Buzz specific app is apparently 2.x for now but maps will do the same thing for the time being. Once setup in maps and latitude is activated you can Buzz from a desktop gmail account and (I think) it will use your phone's location. I don't use GPS most of the time but cell/wifi location is close enough. Works for me.

If you really want to use Buzz on your Eris RIGHT NOW, here is what you can do:

  • Go to Google Maps "the version you have now", click menu, and go to Latitude. Then go to updates. You can post your status straight to Buzz from there. It also shows your friends status too!
  • You can also change your status on Google Talk and it will post it to Buzz.

When I get a buzz e-mail in gmail and follow the link, it opens just fine on Dolphin browser on the Eris. You can respond to a comment there.

Simply put, you need to buy a Google phone. Having Android with a custom UI is like having a beer with a splash of orange juice.

Updates have been promised for the first quarter; we are almost halfway through. I'll own this phone a minimum of 18 more months - I can wait a four to six more weeks.

You bought the phone as is. What's the problem? Do you always buy products and then expect more from them later than you were given up front?

Considering that such an expectation is the draw if an open sourced platform, it is fair. Now just how much more people should expect is the question.

If April comes around and we still don't have an update, then being upset is called for. Until then relax , getting upset isn't going to make anything happen any faster

There really is nothing about Buzz that I am interested in. Automatically taking all my contacts and making it so the world can see who they are? No thanks. Automatically uploading pictures from my phone to the Buzz page? No thanks. Showing the world exactly where I am? No thanks.

I agree with doogald. These phones just came out. I've only had my Hero since November or so. So, I can't bag on the carriers or HTC too much for not having a release to 2.1 so soon. They said 2.1 in Q1 of 2010, so let's see what happens. I don't really care much, since with Sprint, you get to have a phone upgrade once per year, not every 2 years like most carriers, so I'm hoping that the rumors of the HTC Supersonic with the 4.3" screen are true and it comes to Sprint. Until then, I'm pretty happy with the phone, although it lags even while running taskkiller all the time. I don't think we'll ever be truly happy with any phone we get, b/c there will always be something better in the works!!!

Exactly , why would I want people to know everything about me including where I am???
Seems kinda crazy, that's why I don't get Twitter either , why would I want to constantly tell people what I'm doing?

I don't think you want this quite yet. Buzz has some huge privacy holes. It will probably get pulled or at least get redone in the next few days.

If you really want it, hold off for a month or so.
