***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Ok guys serious question here!!!!

How will the lack of a menu button work with ICS? I just realized (little slow on this one) that there is no menu button on the software buttons like how there is on all the other Android phones. Many apps heavily rely on the menu button. Will all app makers have to change the way their apps work in order to compensate for ICS, or will ICS provide a way to still access a "menu" the same way in which we have become accustomed to?

*Hope this question makes sense*

Same way honeycomb works. Another virtual button is added that works as the menu button. In ICS it looks like a colon : except with 3 dots...some videos have shown it.

Google obviously wants the menu button gone though.

Was in a corporate Verizon store today so the wife could address some issues about her Bionic, CSR there said there will be an update here in the next few weeks for the Bionic to address issues with that device, I then proceeded to talk to him about the Nexus, he informed me that the corporate stores have already had training for the Nexus, that it is a great phone, but big red is most upset and holding release till after Motorola Razor because there is no identifying marks or symbols on the Nexus to identify Verizon, he strongly hinted that Verizon was very upset because of no free advertising for them but Google dictated nothing but Samsung and or Google was allowed to be displayed on the device.

Made sense to me
That sounds good to me to.
Verizon needs to get off their high horse. With Google taking over Moto Mobile , Verizon is in deep do do.
What are they gone to do, just sell HTC products if no one else wants to play in their sand box.:D

Damn this thread. I need to study and it keeps distracting me. I deleted my fb for just this reason and now this thread and the SGN have to come along and divert my attention...

If you actually read the text on the latest leaked screenshot with the black friday stuff, it doesn't mention the galaxy nexus in the blurb on top. They even mention the stratosphere. Maybe they are super anal about having their footprint on the phone if they are going to push it.

My opinion from watching the internet rumor/leak machine is this...

Tomorrow will either A. Come and go without any news about the Nexus whatsoever or B. Verizon will send out another press release at the end of the business day/maybe even the end of business Friday to announce a preorder date. (Remember, the original press release stating that they would carry it was also released on a late Friday afternoon) Also, watch the release date for the Rezound. If it is either the 10th or the 14th, that is looking good for the Nexus since it establishes either the previously leaked MAP dates or the rumor of "RAZR 10, Rezound 14, Nexus 17" that we heard

Next Thursday is the 10th which corresponds to the MAP date. The MAP date sometimes is the date of release or preorder, or sometimes is just the date they start advertising when and how much. Think back to the original leak of the RAZR being on the 10th as well...the updated leaked MAP afterwards was pushed back into late October, which everyone knows is the date the preorders started. So from this, we know the MAP documents that leaked were genuine, however we haven't seen an updated one in a couple of weeks.

If the last one we saw is unchanged, I would expect we will hear something about either a preorder or release date by the 10th.

This is all just my opinion though. I'm hoping for the earliest possible outcome either way.

I don't see Verizon doing a big add campaign for the Nexus.
They will do a one minute commercial about the HTC and at the last five seconds of that commercial they will say "also available at your local Verizon Wireless store the Galaxy Nexus" and thats it.

Forgive me if this has already been explained on here. If an app calls for a menu button it just appears to the right of the other buttons as an icon with three dots. Here is a picture someone posted over at XDA.

And I really don't think all this talk about "VZW doesn't want to push the phone because of lack of VZW branding" or "VZW wants to see this phone fail" is at all true. Remember, customer service reps and sales floor reps barely know anything and are usually just working on the same rumors we hear day in and day out.

Remember, VZW is probably going to be the only US carrier to offer and subsidize this for awhile. They want sales and they want new customers and contract renewals. Verizon, while they might show signs of incompetence here and there, aren't totally stupid. Everyone knows the deal with Nexus phones. They are unbranded and untouched. VZW knew this and still agreed/wanted to sell it. To say they went in on this deal blind and then were like "Oh whoa whoa whoa, we can't have our stuff on the phone? Bleh..." is kinda shortsighted. They knew what they were getting into and the contract to offer the phone was signed with full disclosure from Google/Samsung.

Besides, they carry the Iphone, which is another phone they don't touch whatsoever. It doesn't make any sense why they would immediately start carrying it right after Apple's exclusivity deal with ATT was up if they are warry about getting unbranded stuff.

Just my 2 cents.

The one thing I'm really looking forward to is seeing how Google advances the software buttons and how the dev community utilizes that option. It's going to be sweet!

Didn't even think about that. Customized software button appearances?! OH HOT DANG!

Agree completely... said something similar several posts back.

It's funny to read all of the concern over the lack of physical buttons; as a user who's only owned a Honeycomb powered device alot of the stuff that Google used from Honeycomb and put into ICS doesn't even show up to me because that's what I'm used to. The onscreen buttons in Honeycomb just work; there is no need to fear change - isn't that why everyone chose Android over other choices anyhow? Once you use ICS / Honeycomb for about 5 minutes (15 if you've never touched an Android device) you'll be fine.
