I just got off a live chat with Verizon. I've changed the name of the rep:

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience.
You are now chatting with 'Chuck'
Chuck: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Chuck: How are you today?
You: Doing well - you?
Chuck: I am doing great what can I do for you today?
You: I am looking at switching to Verizon from Sprint... 5 lines, smartphones. But I'm looking for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Do you know when that might be available?
Chuck: I am sorry we don't have that Galaxy Nexus, But we do have other phone that may compare what features do you like about that phone?
You: Looking for the pure Android experience, Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, no carrier bloatware, dual core, HD screen, face recognition unlock, curved screen.
You: Oh, and the software buttons of ICS.
Chuck: OK would you like a phone that is a touchscreen?
You: Yes, the Nexus is a touchscreen. It is curved, thin. I also like the zero shutter lag in the Nexus' camera.
Chuck: Would you like a phone that has a physical qwerty keypad?
You: No
Chuck: Would you like to a phone with bigger screen?
You: Yes. 4.65 inches - like the Nexus has.
Chuck: I believe I have a phone in mind that you would like would you like to view a link for that?
You: Is it the Rezound?
Chuck: No but I believe that the link for the phone I will send you, you will love that phone.
You: ok
Chuck: DROID BIONIC by Motorola
Chuck: Do you see yourself using that phone?

That's where the conversation ended.

Used to be they almost always showed up in FCC first, then were officially announced, but lately more and more that has flipped, expecially for the flagship devices.

And from what it seems they can submit to the FCC on any date they want, but then have the information released to the public on a different date, which is most likely closer to the release date of the device.

Just had an interesting thought. Is it possible we'll see an unofficial ICS on the Rezound before the Nexus is even released, since the rezound is already in some consumers' hands? And if so, would that sway you to get the Rezound instead?

I switch it up between F5, Ctrl - R, or right click and reload... they all get the job done. :)

In the past have you guys seen all phones come through the FCC before there is an official announcement? Or do the announcements usually come at/around the same time or even beforehand?

I fully expect to hear that pre-orders (hopefully) are available from this forum well before I get the email from Verizon. Hopefully only 7 more days to go until we are glued to our phones (instead of this forum) for a short period. ;)

Who are you kidding - once we have them we will have ZERO productivity between playing with the phone and then posting to make sure whatever new 'trick' we just discovered is known by all our friends here.

That is a cool hope. I am going to get a chance to try a Rezound for awhile (until the nexus comes out) so I might have to root and give it a try.

Man this needs to launch next week, just got text from wife she sent last night, been having to do multiple battery pulls on my DX as the radios are freezing up on data and the like. It's almost as if it knows it's getting replaced soon.

MY TB using 4g lasts the whole day and then some on standby. Root it, if you havent and put BAMF rom on it. End of story.

*Not picking a fight* :)

1. This is what I meant by saying others disagree with my assessment...and I knew it was coming :)

2. I shouldn't have to root something I paid $300 for to get it to work.

3. I don't know what I'm doing and don't want to brick my phone.

4. I plan on selling my TB and don't find it ethical to sell someone a device I tampered with.

I suspect Mods are going to boot this discusdion soon, so I'll quit before I get spanked.

I would have thrown in a "And that's when the fight started..." before I disconnected.

BTW, first post, been lurking here for a while and felt it might be more productive to register so I can add any news I find. I've belonged to a couple device-specific forums for a while now (DX owner) and always find myself being referred here for info. Great group of people, lots of dedication, my kind of place. Thanks for having me.

Only thing you'll see is an SDK port since the source code for ICS wasn't released yet.

Terrible day for me today. Managed to stash some funds away and after figuring in Christmas shopping I was able to convince the wife to get 2 Transformer Prime devices as gifts to each other in addition to my Nexus. Woo hoo! The next few months were going to be great from gadget geek perspective.

Well, woke up this morning to 3 inches of water in the basement and a blown hot water heater. Now, after deductable and replacement costs looks like the Transformers are out for now.

Still getting the phone though. I do have priorities after all.;)

Possible, maybe but I doubt it. Rezound hasn't even been officially released yet and you are talking about custom ICS roms.

As for ICS on the Rezound, no it wouldn't sway me from the GNex. There's not too many features the Rezound has over the GNex, but a lot the GNex has over the Rezound.

Thanks for joining and I hope you have some great info to share with us soon.

Anyone else find the targeted ads somewhat disturbing. I'm browsing over at Corvetteforum and at the bottome are ads for the GNex. Before that, it was solar power (for which I'm getting a system installed, long story) from the company that's doing the install.

I guess it's time to do some cookie flushing.

+1
Anyway, the ICS source code won't be available until after the Gnex launch, so the odds of seeing an ICS rom on the Rezound before then are extremely slim.

Also, here's a video comparing the iPhone and the Gnex. The only reason I'm posting it is because it compares the boot times of the two phones at the end. (Gnex loads faster, fwiw)

Welcome to the nut house. Please enjoy your stay.

Sorry about not getting the Transformers. BUT it warms my heart to see that your priorities are indeed in order with the Nexus

Ok, tried the chat again. Transcript is as follows (yes, I changed the name):

Please hold for a Verizon Wireless sales representative to assist you with your order. Thank you for your patience. You are now chatting with 'Melanie E'

Melanie E: Thank you for visiting our our online sales chats, how may I help you in adding a new line to your account, upgrading or starting new service today?

You: Hi. I'm with AT&T right now but I'd like to switch over to Verizon. I'd like to order the Galaxy Nexus, please.

Melanie E: While we don't have information for phones that may be coming out, I can certainly assist you in ordering a great new phone, that's out now, today with me.

You: Well, I'm pretty much set on the Nexus. My friend works at a Verizon corporate store and said that they just got some cases in for it. I know it's not out yet, but can't I pre-order it?

Melanie E: There is no pre order for that device. We don't have any information for it at all. What do you like about it? We have several great devices that are out now.

You: I like the 4.65" screen, the lack of physical buttons, Android 4.0, HD screen, 4G speeds, and the fact that it will get updates directly from Google. My friend who works for Verizon says that updates on Verizon phones always take a super long time, and that I shouldn't get anything but Nexus. My next billing cycle with AT&T is on the 22nd. Do you know if it will come out before then?

Melanie E: As I said. We don't have any information for that phone at all. We don't even know if we'll be getting it at all.

You: What? That's weird. I saw the official announcement on your site. Here's the link. Verizon Wireless Introduces The Galaxy Nexus By Samsung

(silence)

You: Can you ask a manager when it's coming? I really want the Nexus and want to switch to Verizon.

Melanie E: The managers have access to the same information we do. I can certainly assist you in ordering a great phone that's out now. Have you looked at the Motorola Bionic? It has a bigger screen in HD.

You: Uh, no, it doesn't. It's got a quarter HD screen. I really would like the Nexus, please. Can I give you my credit card information?

Melanie E: I can assist you in ordering a phone that we currently have. The Motorola Bionic is our best selling device and I know you'll love it.

You: Just out of curiosity, why are you pushing the Bionic on me when the RAZR just came out and is better overall?

Melanie E: The Bionic and the RAZR are both great devices.

You: I'd like the Nexus, please.

Melanie E: Sir, as I said, we do not have that phone available and we are not sure that we will be offering it in the future.

You: George is getting upset. I just showed you the link from your own website!

Melanie E: I would love to assist you in purchasing the Motorola Bionic. Here is a link for it. Droid Bionic | Verizon Wireless

Melanie E: Did that go through ok?

You: Good day young lady. Good day!

First of all, considering that Verizon forces you you into a 2-yr contract to get any phone at a reasonable price, I personally don't find it unethical to "rent" a phone for a 14-day period. The highest end phones have production costs in the range of $100-250, yet they're slapped with a $500+ retail.

This is an incorrect perspective. Incomplete, rather. The highest-end phones have parts costs of $175-200. That, however, does not take into account the following:

-The robots/machines used to assemble the phones are not free.
-The people who operate the machines and robots and assemble the phones do not work for free (pause for Foxconn jokes).
-The robots, machines and people need buildings to work in.
-The robots, machines and buildings have to be maintained.
-The people are given benefits, insurance, etc. (pause again)
-There are licensing fees and royalties that go along with the software and other systems in the phone.
-Phones don't sell if no one knows about them, so the manufacturer and carrier have to spend on marketing.
-Phones don't work so good without a network, and it's not going to erect itself....
-The component manufacturers, phone manufacturers and carriers all have R&D costs to make sure that they only have to roll out 2 or 3 bug fixes instead of 9 or 10.
-The phones don't distribute themselves. Forklifts and trucks and warehouses cost money.
-Litigation with Apple ain't cheap.
-And on and on and on.

When you take all the non-component part costs into account, the carrier comes out within spitting distance of breaking even. They do not make $300/phone. When you "rent" that phone for 14 days, you have wasted their time both at the time of purchase and return, plus the phone has to be re-packaged and re-stocked, and it can't (I believe) be sold as new.

And Verizon (or any carrier) does not "force" you to sign a 2-yr. contract to get a "fair" price. They require a financial commitment from you to justify selling the phone to you at a loss. It is not "fair" for them to sell you the phone at a loss. So if you commit, you get the lesser price, if you do not commit, you pay a price that does not result in them losing money. They are, after all, a business, and if there is no profitability, then there is no company, no LTE, no GNex, and we're all stuck in another forum bitching about the reception on our tin can-and-string.

Not saying Verizon (or any other carrier) is not a corporate beast, overflowing with benevolence and transparency, but you gotta acknowledge the whole package.

I thought we already got to the bottom (pun intended) of the meaning behind his screen name?

If anything, shouldn't it be this?
poos.jpg

Decided to go back a page, and somehow I missed this... Thanks a lot Hans, but since you didn't go with the Lederhosen pic, I am gonna skip this.:p

How about a link to the Samsung VP showing of the GNex to Fox? :D
This thread is quite large, and lots gets lost. But that link was already posted a few times today......and worse, several times a week ago when it was current news. :D

Too bad DroidLife hasn't figured that out.
