***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The Incredible thread is still bigger, unfortunately. But not for long! MWAHAH!

EDIT: Dang it....ninja'd...

I have been involved in both. How screwed up am I?

I have been much quieter on this thread than the Droid Incredible mostly because I feel like I came late to the party so I am still learning from most of you. Thanks for keeping me up to speed!Oh and if this thread is behind, it is only because there are fewer cat pictures, bacon droids, monty python jokes and mustaches.

The Galaxy Nexus posters bring the content!

I sit here wondering about us all :)

How many of us would be considering the GN if it was not coming out with ICS? Every day this phone is "delayed" means one less day of exclusivity with ICS.

Let's say for example, the Galaxy Note has specs that are pretty much better than the GN. You know it will be rooted and you also know it will get ICS in the near future. Can I wait 30 to 60 days for ICS and end up with a phone that has better specs than the GN? After all, lots of us will have this phone for 18 months or so.

We are waiting and waiting........................now I read that late November might be the date?

Oh the PAIN....................NOT laying blame to anyone, there are always good reasons for release dates.............some obviously do not agree with me........LOL

I was a Swype user for about a year, but recently I got really irritated with the auto correct not working as well as it should. I'm on Swift Key X now, and it's awesome. The buttons could be a bit bigger or more spaced out, but the predict engine and correction features are amazing.

Verizon is getting more and more unpredictable lately, so who knows what those idiots are doing.
Am downloading Swift Key and gonna try for awhile as I have been getting a little frustrated with swype at times

I have to concur. That camera its nowhere near as slow or hard to focus as the Bionic's. It was a pleasant surprise. Good news for those picking one up today. Seems users can't go wrong with the GNex, Vigor, or RAZR cameras.

I think you hit on a important point. I plan on being a GN'er (probably) But these are probably the 3 of the best phones ever released and any of them will probably be a good choice and server its master well...

Or as I like to call it....The rumor wheel comes full circle and starts feeding itself.

This is how the internet works. With any and all information so readily available, people are willing to believe anything that gives them hope. If starting a rumor causes the "officials" to themselves spread the rumor, and we hear it from these official representatives and it brings us happiness, then we are more than willing to spread that rumor far and wide.

Unfortunately this doesn't change anything. Like I said. The phone will release when it releases, and it will be amazing. It will be worth every last second you waited, this I guarantee. But you have to wait. You have to be patient. It will happen. Just give it a couple more weeks. We all want it but we can all live a few more weeks without it! Be strong and be patient. We will all be enjoying our new Galaxy Nexus phones soon enough.

Swiftkey is an excellent alternative to Swype. However, I've dropped them all in favor of plain jane GB keyboard. It's simplicity cannot be matched and for me, it's speed as well ;)

Quick Verizon question: Folks have been talking about live chatting with Verizon sales. I'd like to ask a few questions about my account and upgrading, etc., but haven't found where I can get into a live chat. Can someone point the way?

This isn't to harass them. I want to make sure everything is kosher account-wise for the GNex when it comes.

...but I just have trouble giving up tracing the words, its SO fast...

I thought so too, but with SwiftKey X, you can use two hands to type and it's just as fast once you get used to it.

According to what I've read, the shutter lag and focus are much better than previous Moto cameras, but the results (in low light, and video) leave much to be desired.

On a side note:

If you look at the Windsock's twitter, you can see I'm messing with him. Not in an overly bad way, just want to leave him hanging for a bit as he does with everyone else.

Yes, yes, I know. I'm an immature child. Don't have to tell me.

Got to a buy a phone screen and look on the right, there should be a button to open a chat. "Need Help with your order"

Swift key has been my #1 keyboard for a few months now, and I got a few friends to switch to it too. It came out with a beta yesterday that added multitouch which made it by far the best keyboard out. You can fly with it just like any other keyboard now, but you can also just relax and start typing each word and watch the predictions finish the word for you, because 95% of the time the predictions will have your word up there. I have heard that it has the new world record for texting speed too, not sure if thats true or not...

You would be right except for Stevens sources are not CSRs. They are upper level VZW employees who ARE privy to this data.

With regards to all the keyboard discussion that is going on, I used Drew Garen's ICS SDK port on my Nexus S for a while, and I have to say the stock keyboard in ICS is just fantastic, to the point that for the first time I think I will stick with it when Gnex releases rather than using 3rd party, of which I think I have used most (Smart KB, Better KB Ultra KB Pro, Flext9, Keypurr, Swype, Slideit, Touchpal, Perfect KB, Swiftkey etc.)

The stock ICS keyboard tops all of them if you ask me, so hopefully for most of you the issue of Swype support will become moot.

Morning everyone and happy Friday. Thank you to all Veterans who have served and continue to server - we appreciate all you do.

So I am still hoping for the 17th and am pretty optimistic about it. I am now going to sit back and enjoy my bagel and coffee this morning, while the consultant at work tries to get some answers.

<<<<Still sitting back, relaxing, waiting on 11/17 with total faith in Steven's sources.

Im not a huge fan of predictive corrections. My understanding is that its based on previous typing? But it seems (at least with the native charge keyboard) that it's not very accurate, especially with shorter words. Now part of this may be attributed to the fact that I have multiple 'styles' of writing. I use more or less proper language depending on who Im texting /emailing /forums so maybe that has something to do with it?

I think the swipe in Flex T9 is actually better than Swype, but maybe that's about how I slide or something. It does feature the Dragon speech to text engine and I don't think there is one finer - by a long shot. And I enjoy the scribble input for short messages when in adverse environments and this is the only keyboard I know with that option.

That said, I usually use SwiftKey X - it's a tapper, but the next word prediction is so good it's scary. If you've not tried it, we're not talking about word completion - it's word prediction. Often I complete phrases and sometimes entire sentences just by tapping along the predicted selections - it's learned my phrases and common things that I chat about. Speech to text isn't as good as Dragon (srsly - nothing is), but its saving grace is that it gives three choices of what it thinks it heard and that tends to cover well.

My favorite bare keyboard with good auto-complete and a nice layout is Hacker's Keyboard, unlike the other two, it's free and in landscape it provides a FULL keyboard with control, esc - the whole bit. If you VNC into a desktop OS or really drive under the Android hood without adb, just terminal emulator, this is an absolute must have in your keyboard arsenal.

Gooooooood morning Gnexatyposaurans!

Because I took so long to post above, I am repeating what I explained here so that everyone can see it:

DO NOT DO THIS.

I will edit in an explanation in a minute--app to computer switch.

So...that was a bit dramatic. Probably all will be fine and the phone will only pull the 1A it needs. But in theory it is a horrible bad idea that will permanantly destroy your battery.

Explanation:

Your battery is made of three (basic) parts..the anode and the cathode and nonaqeous electrolyte with a Lithium salt. When you charge your battery, you apply a voltage that forces Lithium ions (Li+) to flow out of the cathode and into the anode through the electrolyte. When you discharge the cell, the exact opposite happens. That is all fine and good, except both the anode and cathode are crystalline structures. So although in a perfect cell this diffusion from one xtal structure to another happens nicely and uniformly, in reality it does not.

Imagine an xtal structure where everything is a cube, i.e. you have neat rows and columns of molecules and these are connected via chemical bonds
File:Kubisches_Kristallsystem.jpg

File:Kubisches Kristallsystem.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kubisches_Kristallsystem.jpg

Note that not all xtals are this strucure, but this is the easiest to think about.

Now, to put Lithium in there, you have to have to put it in what are called interstitial spaces...the spaces in the middle of that cube. So that is where the Li+ goes. But the first layer of cubes can only hold so much lithium, and so some Li+ has to go to the interstitial spaces in second layer of cubes, etc. But to get from one interstitial space to another is not a trivial task. It requires that the xtal lattice bend and siform a bit for a tiny amount of time. That is no problem as it snaps right back to normal.

However, if you start forcing Li+ into those spaces at too quick a rate, the xtal lattice will deform so much that the energy for permanent deformation will have been reached, and it will permanently deform. You have now ruined your battery.

Most chargers that push 2A are fine...your phone will limit itself to 1A or so. But some of the chargers push 2A into a battery by upping the voltage (IIRC the iPad charger charges at ~7.2V, i.e. the proper voltage for 2 Li-Ion cells in series). The cheap ones may only go up to 6 or so V, but even that is pushing it a bit.

So...to be safe, DO NOT USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN STANDARD USB SPEC CHARGERS

On a side note, when you do this your electrolyte also has a tendency to degrade (it does taht normally, but much slower). Most batteries are vented to that the gas byproducts of degradation can go out. But if you degrade so quickly that the vent cannot release pressure fast enough, the battery explodes. That is a sight to see, but only if the battery is in a glove box. :)

PS I am a Chem Eng and Physics student at good engineering school, and I worked in a MatSci lab testing new cathode xtals that had the potential to have anywhere from 4 to 12x more capacity that current xtals used. I used to make Li-Ion batteries by hand, from the synthesizing of the cathode to pressing them into a small metal case.

If you were in the DINC thread, you may remember my battery speaches. ;)

EDIT: Oops...looks like only ten or so posts went by. I thought I typed so long a page or two would have passed... COme on people, step on it. :p

I use this for my DroidX:

http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-K3...L6UG/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1321019166&sr=8-6

I have it plugged to the X's car mount I can use a nav software while bluetooth is streaming music from Google Music/Pandora. I still get a charge. Every other charger I tried would only lose power while I was doing all that with the mount plugged in. It is only a 5V adapter so you should be fine with not burning down your car.
